I have just noticed that replying became "illegal". I've got so much in to my replies, not to tell too much. Explain, but without additional info.

I don't get it why can't we explain some facts which are missunderstood by the reviewers. But if you are sure of it, reviewrs should also be prohibited to comment, since they can also affect those who will rewiev after them! (it's obviuos)

yeah, sort of difficult to follow that no replies rule when you are more or less almost asked a question. a rule is a rule, so, oakwarrior, could you please remove the quote?

========
on the rating system:

1. what's meant by the race? is it
a. how appealing is the race to play and how non-redundant is it with existing races?
or
b. how interesting is the race on it's own?
in my opinion those are not exactly the same, because (a) might mean how you would see need for such a race in the game in addition to already existing races while (b) might mean how you judge the race as an individual fantasy world.

2. while i generally like creativity a lot, in homm creativity is a bad thing in my eyes. i prefre folklore and mythology, so i feel temptation to replace it with anti-creativity in my scores. or is this the point where i put the non-redundancy score?

========
hmm.. what to do with many pages long descriptions, because i rather prefer to read.... e.g. this or this. maybe they'll all get a 5... i understand many people really enjoy them, and i am not saying it's bad to write them so long. it's rather that my interests are mainly elsewhere and i even play homm much less than before, just popped in and got somewhat caught in this fun contest.

well, yeah, just like the first poster said i didn't have history while i really had a fair share of it, in a section titled 'history'. but some comments are more interesting to read than just plain numbers. i guess it's either that the contest is fun or the contest is fair.

Reviewers can affect reviewers, because it's their task to review. Authors should not affect reviewers.

If some facts are misunderstood, that is partially a flaw of the initial explanation. By posting clarifications you are adding extra input which raters may take into consideration when rating. This shouldn't happen.

So arm yourself with patience.

Race means the overall concept of the race - how it fits into HOMM universe, how well the race is distinguished from other races, how much is told about this race. Also take into consideration the logo, description of homeland, etc.

I am going to rate entries in the format listed below.
Race is copied from Valeriy post.

Idea (20 marks)
Overall portrayal of the idea of this race. This includes how strong the concepts are and the coordination of race, history and creature on how well they fit together.

Race (15 marks)
How well the race is distinguished from other races, how much is told about this race. Also take into consideration the logo, description of homeland, the details etc.

History (15 marks)
ONLY description of this race histories and origins.

Creatures (20 marks)
ONLY description of creatures lineup, origins and abilities of these creatures.

Balance (10 marks)
How balance are the creature units and/or race abilities. This includes whether this race and/or creatures are either 1) overpowered in the game or 2) too weak if par against existing races according to the descriptions and/or stats and relevant mechanism stated.

Appeal (10 marks)
How much this idea and race attracts other people. Inclusive of reviewer’s favourism/bias factor for this idea.

Originality (10 marks)
How original the idea is and how much it stands out among other entries. This is affected by plagiarism.

Total: 100 marks

It's fine if you use that criteria, but we need a number out of 50, so divide your final score by two.

Also, someone is rating out of 60, those ratings may be discarded unless converted to 50 point scale.

rating system

alright, like orbvius, i have my personal criteria

ill try to be as impartial as possible, i will look at different aspects of the idea.

note: 5% of the score is my bias, that will include bias (duh)

as a hardcore gamer, my criteria will be as follows

Stuff to do with gaming: 35
-Creature lineup 10
-Mechanics 25

mechanics are very important to me, how versatile your town can be played, espacially with the hero skills, it will also be included in mechanics. i LOVE to see stats, as i will be able to do calculations that will pretty much show me how much dmg a troop can deal, etc.

Stuff to do with history/story etc: 25points
-History 10
-How your creatures are being gathered into the town 10
-other additional stuff 5

history and stuff, the usual. im an avid reader, so here my rating would be pretty strict.

Appeal: 15
-Appeal to female players 5
-General appeal 5
-Personal bias 5

im aware of homm5 going to be a sink or swim game, hence appeal plays a big part in my rating too. ive noticed not many female players play homm, due to not liking many towns, i would like the town to attract more female players too; both for the players and the money to save HoMM.

Originality: 20
-Based on how much cliche there is in storyline, how well your idea is portrayed, creature is new, abilities are new and basically about new stuff.

it pays alot to be original.

Others: 5
-This includes other stuff i want to say 5

i like to be sincere in things, i take pride in that, in grading too.
i normally take about 10mins per entry, to review it and see if it fits, and i grade according to aspect and the total is normally unexpected to me, i just total up the aspects

bottomline (pun intended): I take grading seriously

Yes, you can change your ratings at any given time before the rating stage ends. I have already done so on few occasions. I'm sure Val has no objection to this.

Wait, can we edit our entries, or what? I'm confused..

I also don't like the rating system that much... 10 points for originality and 10 for history, both hardly matter. I mean who reads those things anyway, and originality.. not worth 1/5th of the marks.

I think the most important ones are Race and Creatures.

Balance is always being changed in patches too.

History and balance are going to change anyway. Some history is fine but giving equal weight with creatures and castle is a bit of the edge. For me the multipliers should be this way

Castlex1.5
Historyx0.5
Creaturesx1.7
Balancex1
Orginalityx1.2(maybe should be included to castle)

I agree with what you say, Phoenixzs and TitaniumAlloy. When I saw the competition `rules` from Nival, I made my aim that of designing a faction that would be able to fit into a HoMM5 add-on seamlessly. I was a little surprised therefore to find out after I had finalised my entry that one fifth of the marks were for originality. Original castles are not necessarily good ones; in fact, usually the opposite. For me, the winning faction should be one that fits in best, and the chances are that this will not be a completely new idea.

Castlex1.5
Yes, I suppose.
Historyx0.5
Yes I agree that it is not very important, although perhaps not quite this low.
Creaturesx1.7
Definitely the right thing here. This is the most important section since this is what counts in-game the most - what defines the faction.
Balancex1
Hmm, it's difficult to judge balance anyway. But fair enough.
Orginalityx1.2(maybe should be included to castle)
Shouldn't be this high. In fact, could even be replaced by `suitability` or whatever, i.e. how well it would fit into HoMM5. At the moment I guess this bit is part of "castle".
