Questions about ICTC Proposals?

Are these proposals' stories suppose to to be written for a whole expansion or just a town?

Many stories don't make any sense to original game.

I mean are they going to use the material to write the story for the expansion?

I understand that Nival could make changes to the history.

But what is the point of rating the history if they are going to change it?

Next what else would have to change?

I mean the histoy of Heroes V is quite short.  I kinda think they were bad to begin with. The history in many town proposals is longer in one town than all of the orginals combined.  Some of histories are pretty good, but I just don't see how they will work.

Well, first of all, I suppose that what Nival has supplied is probably just a very small part of the history they have conceived for the game, a short summary of the definitory events. If the Russians know what they're doing, they'll expand it during the campaigns, giving more details and insight on the events above.

Second of all, the history in the proposals isn't meant to represent future campaign plots (some of us have taken the liberty to suggest that too, but that's just a bonus). IMO, it can either walk along the line of Ubisoft's official Ashan history or it can describe in detail the course of existence of the faction. As long as it integrates smoothly and in a captivating manner in the HoMM 5 Universe, the size isn't a vital aspect (however, that doesn't mean it can be overly expeditive or redundant).

About Nival's changes (that is IF Nival are actually going to seriously consider this contest, and they're not doing it just for the sake of marketing) of course they will occur! But they are bound to occur on all fronts:race, history, creatures, balance. So why grade any of them?

Well like you said what is the point of rating.  I really don't see much of a point.  I prefer less history now because none it really matters what I am reading through.  I mean a lot people put a lot of work to their proposals, but I am not interested in it if was like an expansion because it goes way off the brief Nival history in many cases.

Then when I think of balance. I think this is pretty silly.  You can't just balance creatures perfectly before you have even seen the game. Of course I know some have.  Anyway I am confused about how to rate now.  I just hope Nival takes the time to look through most of the proposals and actually get some ideas, and make some thing out various proposals by combining ideas.

You can get a shallow idea of the game's current balance (or better yet, imbalance) by viewing this page. In the case of the ICTC proposals there are 2 possibilites:

1. The participant has supplied creature stats together with abilites.

This would make your judgement of balance a simpler task. Numbers are easily exploitable.

2. Only the creature abilities are available.

This is a little bit more difficult, but still, there are a good number of line-ups that are clearly over/underpowered, just looking at the abilites.

In both cases, the number and level of shooters/casters/flyers/melee units are still the main indicator
