AI .... Cheater or not?

I don't know about the rest of you but one thing that I really hope they correct is the AI.  The past AI's have cheated so bad.  I did a test in #4 once.  A computer controlled heroe was just in visual sight of my ore mine. He had nothing in my area, I owned everything.  Fog of war was on.  I saved the game there to try something.  I knew he was heading for my town, so five times I moved away from him and five times towards him. Every time I moved away, he headed for my town, and every time I moved towards him he ran away.  All ten times I could predict his move even though he wasn't supposed to be able to see me.  I've done tons of things like this to test the honesty of the AI and always found it cheating.  I don't mind a tough AI, but a cheating AI really ticks me off. If I have to follow the rules then so should the computer.  And no there were no thiefs or spies in the area.

It's fairly probable that the computer playes out many possible moves and then picks the best one. That means that he can always see 1 days travel from where he is, like if he had a crystal ball predicting the future 1 day ahead.

The AI isn't smart enough to win so I dont mind so much right now if it uses those kinds of cheats to put up a challenge.

Everything that can make the AI play as good as possible should be done. Cheat or not I dont care as long as they make it play as good as possible.

Yeah, as long as the AI puts up a challange, I don't care how he does it, and what's an AI cheating to you.

The AI always have to see everything, beacuse they cant assume. In all games it has to be that way.
Have you ever played "cats and mice" on starcraft or warcraft? I remade a version of that with AI, and if they cant see everything, they dont do anything. This is because if they scout an area, and it's possible that you were on the edge of their sight and just moved in right after they finished scouting it, they wont assume you didn't. They also don't guess, or have hunches, so they wont take a risk, or go explore if there's a possibility there exploration will have been futile. Our current, modern system of AI has to see everything.

PS: Mabey Oblivion's "radient AI" system will fix this. You can bet everyone would be copying bethseda. Law suits galore.

I care if it cheats.  I'm one of these people who won't even use a cheat code cause if I can't beat it honestly I don't deserve to win.  Yes I thought about view air. He was a low level barbarion with few to no spells. First off he was at least 3 or more days travel from me, so there was no way I was in any kind of range to be seen.  I don't know, maybe I'm alone in my thinking.  Maybe the rest of the world doesn't care if there oppenent cheats. But I do.  That's the one thing that will tick me off more than anything else in a game is to find someone (or thing) cheating.  I hope they can make the AI challenging without the cheating elements. Just my opinion is all.

Programming AI is very difficult. I don't know much about it but I think sophisticated AI requires very fast computer like that of chess-playing IBM Deep Blue. Like Miru said, the "cheating" is there only because technical reason. You probably can make the AI not see the whole map and it'll be either so stupid or require supercomputer to run on.
I haven't checked Miru's Radient AI, though. Seems interesting.

Yes I know it is.  I've had some classes at Itt tech in it, and it can really kick your behind.  How many people have played fear? The AI in fear is incredable.  They'll tip tables for cover, then pop up for quick bursts.  While they're keeping you busy, more people will find an alternate path to get behind you and pin you down from both sides. It really is amazing to watch.  Well I really like alot of Ubisofts stuff, with the exception of their save games(farcry, XIII).  So heres to wishing for the best.
