What is a Quality Thread/Post?

I am new to this forum. I have read, though. I am impressed by a lot, curious about most, entertained by many, and by some shocked or irritated or puzzled. I have already boldly started some threads of my own - well. I hope the best for this one.

So, while reading, I sometimes ask myself:
#1 Quality Threads
What threads do you find interesting? What threads are you looking for? What makes a good thread? What are the most important qualities of a good thread?

And because I am at complete loss in this ocean, I cling to the fabulous red stars with their labyrinthic discussions. Which leads to:
#2 Red Star Reality
What qualities do the quality stars in reality reflect? How do you have to be to get one? What gets the mods? (Not to exploit. Just for the insight.) and
#3 Red Star Ideal
Is that adequate? Are some qualities missing or some overrated? Do you generally think that the quality stars reflect what you think is quality?

But the question is even more felt when I post or - worse - start a thread myself:
#4 Good Posts
What makes something "postwhile"? How should a good post be? What are the most important qualities?
#5 Thread Advice
What is the most important to keep in mind when starting a thread? Under what conditions do you start one? What do you try to achieve? What is your role as him who starts?

It would be much appreciated if you shared some answers to the above questions with us.

And/Or about:
What threads do you like best (say, your favourite 3). Why?

And this would be really friendly to share:
#7 Top Achievement
Which of your own threads do you like best? Why?

I am still preparing my answers and will post them later or edit this one.

(Any improvements on the language welcome. Please IM.)

At Heroes Community, quality is whatever the Mods tell it to be.

Deal, you were only one star away from getting a penalty there (by Conan's standards). According to him, saying s**t is a horrible crime and is an automatic -qp. When I brought it up, I got flamed by the rest of the mods (and some other players who were eager to get QPs from those mods, I guess), so I would NOT recommend saying things like "I took a nasty s**t today", or "s**t! this hammer just fell on my toe!".
I've seen other people complain about the excessive censorship not seen in any other forum (well, aside from, maybe, the official teletubbies forum), but Val doesn't seem to care much about that. After all it is his forum and he is the one who decides on the rules, so if you spend a few moments looking through your post looking for any questionnable words and replace then with as many starts as you can, you'll be ok.

Even if it's censored, saying those things is penalty worthy?

Uh, what's the point in censor then?

that is not fully censored half of the community will be banned.

It isn't like we are trying to insult or "bash" anyone. All there is a some criticism mixed with some humor. Or we are not allowed to say anything that can be interpreted as criticism of the site or its mods? Or perharps try to improve things by criticizing some of the things we don't like?
This actually reminds me of Stalin's regime where everyone had to keep their mouth shut and think 10x about every word they say and think about every possible meaning of what they were about to say, because even if one of those meanings could be misinterpreted as anti-soviet or anti-Stalin, or anti-government, you could get jailed or executed. The KGB officials did exactly that, they could call something you said "provoking a coup to ovethrow a soviet government!" or "bashing soviet government". Is this a way you want it to be?

PS: I love Cuba with all my heart!

Everyone will have a different opinion.

IMO, this thread and your post are both quality.  It is sincere and thought out. And the questions are legitimate.  It doesn't flame anybody or annoy anyone.

Being of interest is important.  But remember what you find interesting might not be interesting to someone else.  Or maybe just 1-2 people find it interesting which can still make for a good discussion.

A lot of people don't like new threads about topics which have already been covered many times, especially if it's been recent.  Personally that doesn't bother me.  Like in RL, the same converstions happen again and again.  But it doesn't hurt to check at least the last few pages for a similar topic before starting a new thread.

As i said, it's a matter of opinion.  Even some of the longest term members with lots of stars sometimes make a thread nobody is interested in.  It's hard to predict.  Sometimes I think it depends on the phase of the moon at the time

Edit:

Oh yea.  Try to stay on topic.  I'm sure all the people who spammed this thread did it as a way to show you what not to do.

Thanks for caring to tell. I was aware of the fact that everyone will have a different opinion. There wouldn't be any point in HC or my post if it wasn't like that.

I'm terribly sorry for annoying all the supreme heroes, but they don't need to search for those myriads of threads which might cover the subject, because the discussion for them seems to be already over. Searching for "quality" AND "thread" yields 62 pages of results. Most of them cover the introduction of the star system, and many of them are like this one. I gave up after page 30 without really finding the opinions I was looking for. I haven't found out how to search for the thread title alone and even if I could, the thread title doesn't always indicate what's in the thread. Your kind advice is much appreciated (no irony), but it would be even more helpful if one of those terribly annoyed supreme heroes would actually point to a thread where this has been discussed. Then you could delete this thread and everybody would be happy. Now it just seems to add to those 62 pages.

Problem is, I don't understand the joys of spamming. If something doesn't interest me, I don't bother. And the message from the spammers is intense, though not really clear.

Could a mod kindly delete this thread since it is obviously superfluous? [edit: no, please leave it for Vlaads post below.]

Hi I have questions about threads too.
Are threads only supposed to be started for opinions?
As in "this is my opinion" now discuss. I have LOTS of questions which don't seem appropriate for any existing threads. Can I start a thread with a posting of all my questions and hope I get replies? Will I be penalized for starting a thread which seems only to be about me/my needs(i.e. selfish)? I'm new here and don't want to screw up. rsvp THX!

You can open a new thread anytime, and u won´t get penalized for that all. Important is, to read the CoC which can be found on the top of the page while clicking the "FAQ/Rules" link.

You won´t find a thread here where u will reveal the answer to your questions about "quality" in a thread. Every forum here has its own "standards". You can try to look on the first page in every sub-forum, where u can find a sticky thread named "List of all quality points given in...". If u read there, u have a good overview which threads/posts recieved a +qp and why.

Perhaps you've been searching in wrong subforums? First, I think this thread belongs to Tribunal. You could have found more on this topic there:

Red and yellow star guide

On quality points from a mod s perspective

More on getting QPs (scroll down a bit)

QPs - a taste of heaven or the root of all evil?

Should QPs go? - an old discussion

Boring threads vs interesting threads (scroll down)

What is spam?

If you haven't found these, enjoy yourself! The greatest thing about this forum is that it is actually a huge library - one could be a lurker for months without posting once.

If you have already found these threads, re-read them again... This time between the lines.
