ICTC Round Table OOC

Welcome to the ICTC storytellers wing in the Bard's Glade Pyre.  Please excuse the mess, this was all that was available here at the Guildhall and we're doing our best to make it presentable.

If you take a left you will find Room #1, the current members of which are:
me, FriendOfGunnar, creator of the Island faction
Kookastar, creator of the Cavern faction
Edenfer, creator of the Narmai faction
TitaniumAlloy, creator of the Stoneblood faction
War-Overlord, creator of the Ziggurat faction

The first story we're doing is set in Kookastar's Cavern faction and has the working title of "Path to Mintjinska".  You can find it here.

The second story we're doing is set in War-Overlords Ziggurat faction and has the working title of "captain's Log".  You can find it here

The third story we're doing is set in Edenfer's Narmai faction and you can find it here

What is the ICTC and the ICTC Storytelling Round Table?
During the run-up to the release of the much anticipated Heroes of Might and Magic 5, the company that produced the game, Nival, decided to promote the game by holding a contest.  The idea was simple: create your own race-based fantasy faction.  This was actually a clever idea because everyone who has played the Heroes of Might and Magic game has, at one point or another, probably come up with their own ideas on how to assemble a creature race.  The drawback however was that, at least in the beginning, Nival would only accept entries that were in Russian, thus

Valeriy, the administrator here at the Heroes Community Board, came up with the idea to hold the International Create a Town Contest---all entries to be submitted in English.  The top three prizes for the International version  were to be some CCG card sets from DGA Games, immortality in the form of  a hero card in the HOMM5 Collectible Card Game, and most importantly: translation into Russian so that your faction could be submitted to NIVAL   (And the prize that was perhaps on everybody's mind, the possible inclusion of their invented faction in one of the expansions---despite the fact that Nival never said any such thing).

This instigated an outpouring of creativity and many people (ahem) exceeded the original specifications by creating richly detailed worlds populated by creatures and heroes of their imagination.  (you can go here to see how all the factions did and you can go  here to find all of the hyperlinks.) After the contest  a few of us decided to come here and form a story-telling round table, so as not to let these worlds just disappear back into the creative void from whence they came.  Thus was born the ICTCSTRT.  The International Create a Town Contest Story Telling Round Table.

The basic idea behind this is very similar to the game we used to played as children.  One person starts a story and then hands it to the next person who adds to it and then hands it to the next person and so and so forth.  I've devised several rules though to increase consistancy and creative cohesiveness (the 3 C's).  Scan down a few paragraphs to see these.

What is an Ooc thread?
When you are participating in an Role Playing Game thread, like the ones you see here in Bards Glen Pyre, there's an In Character thread and an Out of character thread.  The basic premise behind the story-telling round table however is somewhat different though so you can think of this instead as an Omnipurpose Organizational Clipboard.

Who are you?
I'm FriendofGunnar. (Anybody who's played HOMM3 will understand why he was my favourite hero).  Anyway I'm a long way from being a moderator so you can just call me the groundskeeper here.  I'm the one that basically vacuums up all the Doritos after everybody has left for the night.  If you have have any questions about the ICTCSTRT you can HCM or email me.

How do I join?
1.  Membership is restricted to people who created an ICTC entry.  If you want to join all you have to do is create a faction according to the original rules stipulated by Nival. Then you  post it in the Age of Heroes Coliseum where our storytellers will come over and slam I mean, er..rate you.  After that you're in.
2.  A story round table will be restricted to between 4 and 6 people.  If more people want to join then we can split into two separate round tables.  (I also forsee the lineups getting shuffled every once in a while if this happens).

and once I'm in?
3.  Our creative playground will be restricted to the the world of HOMM5 and the 60 add on factions that were created for ICTC.  (I fully expect though that each group will probably only be exploring the 4 to 6 little worlds created by it's members)
4.  Most importantly:  Each story will have a chairperson who will serve as a type of moderator for that particular story. The chairperson has several different duties.
A.  It will be their responsibility to keep the story focused and to regulate the pacing.   (The relationship between the writers and the chairmen will be very similar to the relationship between a writer and an editor.  It's mainly just a way to vet your ideas before they go into the public eye.)
B.  It will be their responsibility to thoroughly study the faction(s) in which the story is taking place.  They will then examine posts to make sure that the posts are consistant with the faction creators intent.
C.  If you read the factions that were written by each member you will notice several small  discrepancies.  For example: 1.  War-Overlord's Orcs are different from TitaniumAlloys Orcs.  2.  Kookastar has a more gentle conception of Cyclops than TitaniumAlloys.  3. My faction warred with and eventually annihilated War-Overlord's faction. Thus it is the job of the chairperson to resolve these minor discrepancies for any particular story.  (So you can expect solid consistency within a story but probably not between stories.)

There's a few more additional rules and recommendations that I'll email to anybody who makes it past the previous 4…

Feel free to post comments, suggestions, or anything else you want to in this forum.

I could give it a try.

It's a good idea, but it doesn't provide interation between roleplayers.

I'd be interested to see a stories from a few factions.

Excellent, we have a quorum.  I'll start things off on March 1st, after the deadline for the Nival contest.  Until then I'll be sending out emails discussing the rules.

Please don't fill up the forum with dozens of ICTC story threads. I don't mind the stories, but seeing a dozen threads called ICTC Story #1 is really annoying.

Give your threads real names. If it's about Stronghold then put something like

Heroes of Stronghold

If you still want the ICTC tag on it then put

Heroes of Stronghold - ICTC

Something like that would be a lot better.

Edit: If you are telling stories that interact with each other then you should all just post in one thread. Don't take up 10 threads just to separate out 10 inter-related stories. However if they are separate stories that stand-alone, then feel free to create separate threads, but please don't call them ICTC Story #1. That looks pretty obnoxious actually.

I am going delete those threads, except for the first one, since you posted a story already. Let each writer create their own thread with their own story title.

Also please create a new thread with a title for your story.

Edit Again: Thank you. Btw, don't feel discouraged about coming to Glade. You are more than welcome. I just didn't want Glade to look like a second forum for ICTC. I want it to feel like Glade.
