not really, if you have really fast creatures, and your hero has an excellent spell power, then you can cast Chain Lightning if you have it, and probably wipe the enemy creatures all out.
Magic Heroes do not suck if you use them properly.

Tower isnt exactly .. fast
And there are many problems in developing a magic hero anyway, dont want to start that here as it would only be rephrasing of other threads.
But for the hero choice:
Whats the point in getting earth or log late in the game ? I usually want to have exp earth before breaking into the treasure zone and not after several fights in there. And a late log gives way less extra movement than a lvl2 log. So my picks would go towards the first acceptable hero to get earth/log. I'd have chosen Neela a week ago, though
And I'd still pick her over Aine as a potential main if I ever got to play a pick game and pick my 2nd most hated town.

What do you mean if you use him properly? If 2 players play and one uses a magic hero and the other a might hero (both of them using their heroes PROPERLY), in most cases, the might hero user will mop the floor with the magic hero user.
If you don't think that's the case, come teach people how to use a magic hero properly.

you don't get it.
Im saying that if you vs an AI, you will beat the might hero.
When you vs the Might hero when you are versin an opponent, then you will probably beat them as Magic heroes are better, and when you have you Tower creatures in your army with your Magic hero, you will kill the Might hero easily.

Not neccasarily, Magic heroes can be twice as strong as Might heroes, it all depends on the primary skills.
But IMHO I think that Magic heroes are much better than Might heroes.

Ok, so your average casting hero Malekith(wis, sorc, int, myst, 4 schools) gets to fight the average Barbarian(off, armor, tactics, air, res) with his tower army on snow. As usual you have the speed advantage and may start with your first spell. Your options are:
1)Implosion to kill most of the Ancients
2)Chain Lightning to kill half of the Ancients + 2 single units + ammo cart + ballista
3)Armageddon to kill everything except for 1-2 opposing stacks who resisted
Say you do #2, because you spoke of it. After your spell those mighty 24(25) Titans make short work of the wounded Ancient on top of its stack, the Genies cast sth on the Titans and you feel like winning.
Now its the Barbs turn to cast haste. The birds kill the magi, the Ancients kill most of the Titans, a lone wolf suicides into the Nagas who get killed by the other wolfs and goblins thereafter. Then the gargs, grems and golems play a little David vs Goliath and before Malekith gets to cast his next spell, he abandons your cause

And why would I use that hero for. I would either use Neela (best Tower hero) or some one who has the Sorcery as a unique skill.
I would not use that hero.

any hero can be the best spell damage in the game. If you have 99 spell power then you are the best, and if you have expert Sorcery and you have a hero which has a unique skill of Sorcery then you are the best.

William...just stop posting the same over and over again. You magic hero will never reach 99 in any skills vs a human opponent. Your big chainlightning will prolly do NO damage, if opponent has some specific arties or has high resistance. On the other hand, you have NO WEAPON or artie against the mighty strikes of every unit in opponents army. This was stated so often here, and itīs time to let this topic die.

im saying that when you get in the big battle against your opponents then you will probably have many good artifacts improving the damage of your Chain Lightning, and your spell power will be really high by then, and Im not posting the same over and over again.

depending on which map you play, the might hero might actually have higher spell power than the magic hero.
It happens more often than not if you play rich maps.

Probably not. Might heroes go for Attack and Defense.
When I play I go for Attack, spell power, or defense and spell power.
I hardly get Knowledge, even though it's useful I dont know why I don't get it.

wow, a lot has changed while i was inactive... last time i visited a homm3 forum (3 years ago T_T ), everyone was whining about casters being imbalanced.
wizards are the best casters, since spellpower is only good for h&r and res/animate. their problem, however, is that tower units dont work well for them. that is why neela is the most common choice for main hero i saw when i faught towers (i never play tower myself tho).
try pitting that big stronghold army against, for instance, a good inferno caster with tons of mana (aryden, or w/e). devil will allow him to cast the last spell, thus countering haste with slow, and effectively doubling the strenght for one round. not to mention that a puny lvl1 shield is the best counter to behe's ability, since his att maxes out at 100% and shiled goes after all other calculations. then we have zerk and sacrifice, curse, and the famous forcefield that makes devil immune to any melee attacks since he is the fastest unit there. i don't see why anyone would waste a single round casting c.lightning or implo, unless trying to prevent a retreat. besides, you can see his army and prepare to counter it, but you don't know what spells he is going to use untill i't too late.

Your spell selection is fine, but the point is, might heroes can cast those spells as well. That's why they're better. Mana doesn't play such a huge role, just a basic helm should cut it.

"Do you really think that all of those are better than Neela with their skills like scouting or ballistics and useless specialties? Or you just listed a bunch of heroes that you'd consider for a main?"
Russ wrote this after I had made a long list of heroes I found better than Neela. Ill have to take that list back. I have to admit that Neela is one of the better heroes in this game. The armor specialty is just awesome and any hero can afford to waste one skill and still do well. Her secondary skilldevelopement is pretty good too.
Just an example: Recently I got Neela and Kyrre day 1 on a jebus xl and when I saw boots with easy guards I decided to take Neela as main since I thought she would be fast enough with boots. First 3 skills i got was earth, log and off and I took a unidwell and 2 green dragon dwells guarded by lots gorgons and throng lizard warriors week 1 partly due to massslow. Would have been somewhat harder with Kyrre.

Tower as a town is quite bad... with the exception of tower units combined with orrin, then you have a good chance...
wizards? indefinite summoning of elementals sometimes comes in handy... not that often... (cyra is good, but people ban her )
alchemists? Neela is very good, as agreed before, even with a slot wasted on scholar (but this can be manipulated to ur advantage sometimes).
But i'd personally rate tower as the 2nd worst town to use in most instances, despite having a good start with the weakened gremlin rush... for me, tower ranks right in front of inferno =)

Tower is quite bad??
Due to heroes?
What about the units? Tower's army is well-composed (3 shooters, 2 flyers including spellcaster, 1 *offensive* and 1 *defensive* walkers) and you will get the units for reasonable price (though gargoyles and giants/titans are a bit expensive). Initial stack of master gremlins and gargoyles means great begining - try to compare with stronghold, on small map, tower will wipe them out.
IMHO tower is among the best towns (especially on small and medium maps)
