Heroes 3 Town Rating -CONFLUX-

Everyone is invited to share his own opinion about every town in Heroes 3. Try to use these topics as order for your postings:

- Advantages, Disadvantages
- Best creature(s), with explanation why, e.g tactical usefullness
- Worst creature(s), with explanation why, e.g too low stats..
- Special buildings
- Building order (good, too slow....etc..)
- Hero classes (don´t refer these classes ONLY to this specific town, but perhaps they are more usefull with other towns)
- Good / Bad on what kind of maps
- OWN subjective rank in a townranking, from 1st (best) to 9th (worst)

Let´s collect as much opinions as possible, to finally find the best possible "review" of every town.

Ok the Conflux town, here we go:

The Conflux Town has probably one specific Town structure that is really good.
The Magic University.
The Magic University enables your hero to learn the 4 basic
secondary skills of: Fire Magic, Aire magic, Earth magic, and Water Magic.

These are critical if you like spell casting because they not only increase the damage that the specific spell type does (eg:earth spells like implosion) but they also decrease the cost for using them, and that is quite good if you are low on magic points but still want to cast a good spell.

On to the units:

Pixies or Sprites are really weak. But they do have the skill, no enemy retaliation, which is useful if you have a whole bunch of Pixies/sprites, say like 300 of them, and you don't want the enemy to fight back.
The Growth of the sprites/pixies is really good, generating 20 each week. That's more than any other town type, and if you have the Garden of Life built, that increases the weekly generation to 30 each week. Cool.

Air/Storm elementals are the lev2 unit.
The Storm elemental is the one of the Ranged attackers of this town.
They are both relatively cheap only costing about 250 to 270 gold.

Water/Ice elementals are the lev3 unit.
They are pretty good, with good skills during combat.
Ice Elemental is another Ranged attacker but the health of it is pretty bad, considering it is only 30.
They are a pretty good unit but bad health is a letdown for them.

Fire/Energy Elementals are a good unit to have within your army.
They are strong, fast, and immune to quite alot of things. And they are also cheap.

Earth/ Magma elementals are a good unit because they have good attack and defense skills.
They are cheap but they also have poor health, with Magma Elementals having a Health of 40.

Psychic/Magic elementals are a really good unit within your army.Magic Elementals are immune to spells and are quite strong and fast.
They are a good unit to have mainly because Magic Elementals are immune to spells.They also attack everyhting around it without retaliation which is extremely useful because you can take out mayber 3 or 4 guys in only 1 round, and that is a really good thing to remember.

Firebird/Phoenix are the lv7 unit.
They are strong with an attack damage of 30-40 and the Phoenix has the Reborn ability when in Combat.
They are also very cheap with a good attack and defense skill and they are really fast, They are pretty tough to defeat when used in large numbers, and it is easy to get alot of Phoenix because they are cheap.

The heroes to bother about here are probably Pasis and the other one which both have a skill of Psychic/Magic Elementals, and that is good later on in the game because of the strengh of the Elemental type.

This Town can be used in alot of maps and it is really fun and because of the cheapness of the units, you can eaisly wipe out the computer in mayby 2 or 3 months tops, and it is really good fun and it adds a whole new dimension to the game by adding this new town type.

In my opinion this is a good and strong town type, and It is powerful and is alot of fun to play with.

I rate it 9-10

Sprites grow 50 a week, 20 normal + 20 castle + 10 garden, they are maybe not the strongest 1st level unit but they are the most usefull even more than mastergremlins. You can take out huge amounts of slow units just cross your fingers for no morale thingy.

No they are not cheap lol, they are the most expensive 2nd level creature, plus if you don't have the air dwelling built from the start you need to buy mage guild. And the upgrade to storm costs 5 precious mercury.

Huh?! What other 3rd level creature has more than 30 HP? Flies = 20, orcs = 20, cerberi = 25, griffin = 25... A 3rd level ranged units with 30 HP! Could you even dare to ask for more!?

I edited from here onwards:

I made a mistake as TNT_addict pointed out.
Sprites do grow 50 each week.
I think if you have the Grail structure built, then the weekly generation of Sprites changes to 75 per week. Extremely useful.
They are fast and they might be more useful than Master Gremlins (i'll check it out), and they have an alright attack and defense skill, but poor health.

What I meant about the health being low for the lev3 unit was, that it was pretty low considering all the other units. I'm not saying that it is pretty low compared to all the other lev3 units in the game. I'm just talking about the Town creatures of The Conflux.

I really love the look of this town, In my opinion a great addition town with the Expansion packs. Just love it.

It has resonably strong units, the Phoenix is strong and has good growth per week.
I think the maximum is about 6 per week, and they are pretty cheap. Costing only about 2000 gold I think, whereas the Titan cost about 5000 gold, but in my opinion that is alright considering the Titans are a very stong unit to have.
The Phoenix are not the most strongest unit in the game, but they are still worht having in your army.

Still stick by my original rating of 9-10 for this town type.
I also rate the fun thingy of this town about 7-10.
Good town to start off with.

why not.
Don't you like this town, I think it is very good to start off with and good if you want fun and enjoyment while playing.
It is a very balanced town, with resonably strong units and good growth rates for each creature.
Nothin wrong with it in my opinion.

Its not 'too' good, it is a good town for beginners and Experts as it is a good town to start off with, Has good units which are quite powerful, and it has decent special buildings, so this in my  opinion is a good town.

CONFLUX

Advantage
-Fastest creature makes this town always attack first. It allows us to cast beneficial spells like haste or prayer to increase the speed furthermore. or maybe anti magic to ourshooters and blind or forgetfulness to enemy's.

Disadvantage
-Most of the creature can't be rescurrected neither by rescurrection nor animate dead. the high price of level 2-6 makes this town expensive one.

Special Buildings
-the Magic Uneversity gives us 4 of 5 most useful secondary skills supported by mage guild level 5 and artifact merchants. we are possible to got tomes of magic while our heroes has already mastered all magic skills.

Best Creatures
-Phoenix on its speed growth and price. Even the health is only 200, but the double growth makes it possible to defeat Black Dragon with 1/2 number of Phoenixes. Moreover, the regeneration ability and Fire breath makes this creature Extraordinary.
-Magic Elemental which has Chaos Hydra nad Black Dragon special ability.
-Storm Elemental as the best level 2 unit since it is actually level 3 creature on RoE. It is the only Shooter that can Fly.

Worst Creatures
-Magma Elemental that actually level 4 in RoE. Zealot can do better damage. Their low speed and MetShwer vulnerability makes this creature the most useless one.

Hero classes
-Planeswalker gives benefits on thier movements. Good to explore the maps early.
-Elememntalist have already had one of 4 magic skills. No other hero classes have this advantage. Its true that they are selected hero from other alignments.

Good on maps
-Almost maps since the speed of the hero supported by the speed of level 1 and 2 creatures. The shipyard helps to explore the archipelago maps.

Bad on maps
-None. Although the creatures are expensive, expensive in resource is not a big problem.

Building order
-Not many hard prerequisities. Also the resource silo that produces what we need to buil level 7 dwelling.

Compared by other towns it is in position 4 after Dungeon, Necro, and Castle.

Combat strategy
This town always attack first. but din't do that. Cast a damage spell to enemy level 7. Place the Phoenix between 2 of friendly creatures to prevent the Fire Breath of Phoenix attacks our friendly units. Attack the level 7 enemy units (if they go forward) with Magic Elemental first followed by Sprite. Don't worry about your shooters as their great helath and defense.

The Grail
Best grail ever. not only temporarily atk, def power or knwldge.

Conflux once and for good...

As much as I hate conflux I will share my infinate wisdom with you guys.

Overall
Almost everything about conflux just rocks including heroes, buildings and units and they are so easy to play even for beginners. Conflux can evenly match up for necro on some maps because the vampires become less effective with only the sprites and birds to drain life from so defend those well with the elementals, that leaves phoenixes versus skeletons for the win.

*Dissadvantages*
Seems kinda strange for a town as strong as conflux but it has plenty of dissadvatges as well as advantages.

Vulnerabilities to offensive magic
Storm and air elementals are vulnerable to lightning and fire spells.
Ice and water elementals are vulnerable to fire spells.
Energy and fire elementals are vulnerable to ice spells.
Earth elementals are vulnerable to meteor shower.

No morale bonus for elementals
Only two units in the conflux garisson are living creatures (sprites and fire birds) and only they can get morale bonuses during battle so leadership skill is not required for conflux hero.

No ressurection for elementals
As elementals are nor alive nor dead ressurection or animate dead has no effect on them which is a big dissadvantage because ressurection is one of the best non offensive spells in the game.

*Advantages*
There are some advantages that conflux has and they can help a lot.

Immunity to magic schools
Energy and fire elementals are immune to fire and so is the fire bird.
Water and ice elementals are immune to water spells.
Magic elementals are immune to all spells.
Magma, energy, psychic and ice elementals are immune to mind spells.

Ability to cast magic protection
Magma elementals can cast protection from earth spells whie in battle which is usefull in case your opponent got implosion in his arsenal.
Energy elementals can cast protection from fire.

Using armagedon
2 of the conflux units are immune to fire magic and 1 is immune to all so you can enter a fight with your birds, fire and magic elementals and hit your opponent with armagedon spell right at the start of battle. With expert fire magic and maybe the fire orb that deals additional 50% damage to fire spells it is a sure tactic to win.    

Spells
As the phoenixes always give you the initiation in the battle with their 22 speed you will be able to hit your opponent first. I myself like to have expert berserker and cast it on his fastest or strongest units or both . Cloning your powerstack of phoenixes will result in 2 crushing strikes and both of them could be 2 hexed!!! That almost 2 enemy stacks destroyed 1st round!

Heroes
Conflux got the best magic heroes elementalists in the game because all of them start with 1 magic school and could be experts in it at level 3 = huge advantage even if it's a magic hero and they bite really bad. Labetha won me many fun games, expert slow with 70 sprites 3rd day!? I owned the map in 1 week! Planeswalkers got big bonuses to specific creature that no other heroes got, that means a power start at the beginning with the +3 attack and deffence bonuses. Monere rules no doubt, logistics and offence make him fast and furious and with sprite and air combo he is lethal to the map monsters, Fiur could be usefull too with his advanced offence. Overall planeswalkers get lousy secondary skills and though they start with 3 offence they tend to get lots of knowledge and spell power which are not needed at all for a might hero.  

Movement and scouting
The fastest town from the start, conflux got both sprites and air elementals both with 7 speed, they make a fast army together and no need to remove any slow units at the end of the turn. You could explore the map fast, take needed mines and resources. If you give all your scouts sprites you can boost their movement to make them more effective.

Buildings
If the altar of air is not built from the start you need to build mage guild first which can slow your progress at the start. I tend to make sprite upgrade day 1 to go out on a killing fiesta right away so another day wasted in the build chain. It is harder to build the 7th dwelling 1st week if the air is not prebuilt but possible if you sacrifice the sprite upgrade which I don't recommend cause sprites rule!
Most of the buildings require only some ore and wood and are easy to build and the 7th level dwelling is also considerly cheap and awesomely effective.

Special buildings
Magic university is a great special building even if it's quite expensive to build at the start of the game. You could upgrade your hero with another magic school later on and give him an advantage. Artifacts merchant is not one of my favourites, the arties cost just too much gold that I rather spend on 2nd and 3rd castles. More merchant means less artifact cost but each of them costs 10k so again too expensive.

Units

Sprites - When upgraded they are damn awesome unit combined with mass slow they are unstopable, no retaliation rocks! 1st level unit? Heck they are more effective than dumb ole manticores.
Air elementals - Strongest 2nd level unit, fast with nice hit points and ranged upgrade makes it even stronger. However they are a bit expensive to get enough of them to clear the map and the upgrade needs mercury.
Water elementals - They are nice unit but too slow to use in the beginning and the upgrade is to costly, again with the mercury.
Fire elementals - Useless unit overall but the upgrade is better with higher speed and the ability to go through castle walls which acts as a 3rd flier! But they are mediocre in power compared to ogres or crusaders.
Earth elementals - they can guard your 2 shooters pretty well as they are tough and can take a punch, they are usefull at the endfight as well where MEAT is needed to draw retaliation and be a pain in the... Magma elems are also able to cast protection from earth which you could use to defend against implosion spells but their low damage, low hit points and speed pulling them down bad.
Magic elementals - My favourite unit in the game! They are so strong it is unbelivable, even though their hit points are low they got the no retaliation and area damage attack. High damage and immunity to magic makes them unstopable combined with the birds, just too bad they can't be hasted or blessed.
Fire birds - Maybe they are weaker statisticaly than the other 7th level units but their big advantage is in their huge numbers, 4 a week it is madness. Plus they are cheap and the fastest unit in the game, you build them 1st week you clear the map in no time.

Castle Defending
2 Ranged units will break you in half before you break the walls. Fire birds could wait strike and return with only the retaliation taken and the sprites without it. When an openning appears just plug it with your earth elementals and enjoy the show.

Castle sieging
3 Fliers and 2 ranged, plus nice melee units makes conflux the ultimate sieging town, maybe it is even better not to deffend against them in town and face them outside. They are just too good to battle inside a castle.

Good on maps
ANY MAP!!!

Bad on maps
N/A

The conclusion is that conflux is the strongest town in the game because they can take out necro on more maps than necro could do them. They are unstopable from the beginning 'till the end of the game and my town rank for them is 1!

My little advice is to take this waterelemtals specialist if you get water elementals in the starting army. With the "A" trick on home ground he can take out any shooters right from the start.

Try it youll love it.

Yes, yes, this Calt fellow with the tactics from the start, I pray for him every game that I start with flux but so far only once did the luck shine on poor me .

But I just hate those darn water wusses to buy them with the precious gold...

You only described the first units, not the upgraded units.
The upgraded units have different skills, u should list those like I did.

Conflux is my favorite town with necropolis
reasons :

1. Heavily superior about magic ;elemantalist heroes begin with pow :3 konwledge :3
Grail is aurora borrelias : teaches all spells
You may learn all kinds of magic from magic university
magic immunity for most creatures
2. Ciele is a powerful sorcerer erfect about rush attacks and gains level very quickly (with only magic arrow ability)
İf two castles are very close (2-3 turns distance) or there is a dimension door between them and if ciele attacks this town there will be no chance to defend it(İf defender is not ciele) so game finishes in the beginning
3. Magic elementals (lev6) is the best lev 6 creature. no retellaition,multiple attacks and magic immunity
4. Lev 7 creatures also very powerful : Growth is more, cheap , has fire immunity and fasetest unit fo the game. Further : reborn ability
6. Enviroment is grassy plain and generally reach for resources.
7. After upg. water and air elementals turns to powerful ranged attackers. Air elementals are strong without upg because they are very fast
8. Only small weaknessses :  spirites(lev1) is very weak and earth and fire elementals are relative weak
creatures

Advantages:
- Having a 9 speed unit (10 on grass) with no enemy retaliation day 1
- Easy to build town
- Outrageous growth for the firebirds/phoenixes
- Being able to obtain whatever magic school you need

Disadvantages:
- Weak lvl 4-5 units
- Elemental spell vulnerabilities
- Elementals behave similarly to golems in terms of spells/morale

Just to mention, the advantages this town has simply dwarf the disadvantages. In the hands of a good player, this town is simply broken, it is very hard to stop.

Best Creatures:
The Sprite as mentioned before is a huge advantage in the beggining
The storm/air elementals are lvl 2 creatures that are better than some lvl 3 creatures out there
Phoenix has double growth from other lvl 7 creatures, fastest creature in the whole damn game, fire immunity, breath attack, rebirth... this unit is a one bird powerhouse
Magic/Psychic elementals are a one hex hydra

Worst Creatures:
Fire/Energy Elementals and Earth/Magma elementals their stats just don't cut it for their level + no impressive specials

Again, it is worth mentioning that the advantages are much more important than the dissadvantages. The fact that their lvl 4-5 units suck doesn't mean squat when you play Conflux, you've got all your other powerhouse units to clean the map with.


Special Buildings:
Artefacts merchant - not a big deal, but it can be useful in some situations
Magic University - good special building, let's you built the hero with whatever magic school you need, a bit expensive tho, but definetly worth it if you need it.

Building Order:
A bit rigid, but it doesn't matter because it is pretty cheap to build anyway. This town can suck the map dry very easely. Week 2 you can divide your army up between more than 2 heroes easely, and with chaining, I really do not know of any other town that can clean an area faster than Conflux in week 2 (or 1 for that matter). Conflux is a town where you should have 8 heroes in week 2, and the army divided at least into 2 groups. If you didn't manage that, the map is probably really poor and guarded by very strong monsters, or you don't know what you are doing.

Hero Classes:
Elementalists:
Wonderful magic heroes. The main advantage they have doesn't lie in the one extra primary skill they have, it is in the fact that they all start with a basic school of magic

Grindan starts with basic earth and slow, now that's a good magic hero. Having him with sprites definetly gives new meaning to hit and run.

Ciele has magic arrow which can be very useful in the beggining because she can pack some serious damage.

And my favourite magic hero, the most underrated one in my opinion - Luna. Against ground units, this babe is killer. I've managed to take down big stacks of monsters early on with her firewall.

Planeswalkers:
Good might heroes, like mentioned, the creature specialists for conflux are actually worthwile. The bonus they provide to creatures is significant compared to all the other heroes.

Heroes Worth mentioning
Monere - Basic Log Basic Offense
Fiur - Advanced offense
Lacus - Advanced tactics

All in all conflux can provide its town with both good might and magic heroes. I would still pick a barbarian over a planeswalker if given the chance tho.

Good: on all kinds of maps

Bad: well if you're doing bad with conflux on a map, you would do much worse with any other race so not really any bad maps.

Only weak link for conflux is playing a longer game vs a good necro player which will harvest his legion of skellies. But then again, even on an XL map, I'd rather play flux than necro.

Town Rating: BROKEN, ie #1 and looking from above on the other towns cept neco.
