Well, there is another thing when a Vet play magic hero. Imagine you are so bored from win after win, so you want to try a game with handycap. It is chalenging to play with disadvantage and thats why sometimes you may pick a magic hero intentionaly, just to have fun. That may be the case with Frank. Otherwise i am sure that if he got Shakti, Dace, Mepha, Tazar, Alkin, Crag, Tyraxor or Gurni - he wouldnt think what hero to choose.

But if you have no choise you naturaly pick the best second choise. Grindan is not that bad for a magic hero.

Trust me, he wasnt bored. He played his best but probably didnt get any strong might heroes and went with an early exp slow and many spellpoints. And that might actually be a better strategy than to pick Ufretin or whoever else was offered.

On original template or Balance this might prove right. On Jebus i doubt Grindan will be better than any might hero, including your loathed Knights

Attacking a big stack of dendroids with your raiders instead of your Ancients coz u forgot your main is Tyraxor and the raiders moved before the teddys. So instead of winning the fight without any loss, you lose 70% of your wolves

I love calling the ancients "teddys". a friend of mine used to call the beholders and evil eyes "lightning-slaps", the scorpicores "lions" and the familiars "ninjas". Now that's noobish

Yes, that seems to be a common noobie mistake, although only at the very onset of playing the game.

I don't know whether that's noobish, but it certainly is the most stupid thing I've done recently. I played Jebus and for that moment I had a choice of two armors - Armor of Wonder (+1 to all primary) and Breasplate of Brimstone (+5 spell power). Since I played Crag Hack, I decided to put the Armor of Wonder on, 1 att, 1 def, you know, totally ignoring the facts I was playing against DUNGEON and that I HAD THE ORB OF VULNERABILITY + IMPLOSION. Naturally, the dungeon guy came and cast armageddon, leaving on the battlefield his 7 blackies, 2 of my ancient behemoths and a few ogre magi. Well, if I had had 4 more spell power then, he would have been a goner.
Another thing - thanks to angelito and the guy I played against, I know that when you have the black orb and the opponent casts armageddon, it doesn't affect his immune to magic units.

noobish thing to do
- "forgetting" to upgrade double strikers/shooters (wolves, marksmen, grand elves, etc)
- obtaining "Titan's Thunderclash" (I've Russian version of HoMM, not sure what english name is, the sword with the free magic for 600 dmg)just to use its magic with no spellbook
- casting Chain Lightning on enemy stack adjacent to your troops
- casting chain lightning when enemy only has one stack

This is noobish because with that artifact you automatically get Spell Book

Wow!! I Definetly do a LOT of these things, and some things I'm not even familiar with. I used to play ROE online in 2000-2001, and I just reinstalled Homm3Millenniuam (which is Homm 1, 2 and 3ROE) and I really want to play online again.

I have a lot of questions, and I'm very willing to learn anything you can teach me. If you're interested in helping me learn via training me or simply talking, my MSN is BBoehler26@yahoo.com. I also have Skype and I can DL any other IM program if you would prefer to use that.

Here are some of my basic strategies so far...pretty much everything I remember from playing online before, plus some tactics I sorta figured out myself.

1. Heroes only move as fast as the slowest unit in their party, therefore scouts are best if equipped with a fast unit, like Harpies or Dragonflies.
2. Chaining units to your main so he doesn't have to go all the way back to town.
3. Getting multiple heroes to collect resources and explore faster
4. Try to at least get your level 2-6 production buildings, your main Hall and a 50% creature production upgrade before the end of week One.

Here are some noob mistakes I've made

1.Went almost the whole game without getting a spellbook for my main hero. I finally got it after conquering my 2nd PC Castle. Shortly after that I took on my human opponent and defeated him.
