The Yellow pact - Against the payments

After reading the thread "Enough is enough, I have seen that the majority of this forum is against Valeras decide to force us mebers to pay frome our own pockets.
Therefore, I suggest we do a pact against it. We should not post anything at HC if not Valera changes his mind. I will be the first to: sign

Well, I would sign in, but it seems that I am a bit weak, I mean I couldn't survive without posting on this forum. But you have a point. If more than 10 people sign in, you have my word - I will join in and become a member of the yellow pact.
PS: I think that "Coalition of Rockers Against Payment" - CRAP would work better.

C'Mon! don't tell me you can't even afford 5$ a month?? how else would you spend that money? McDonalds??

Whatever. I think 5$ is a very cheap price. With H5 coming out, this place will be booming.

I say he should raise the price to 10$ and then have privilidged members. You could pay an extra 5$ and have no floodprotect, and a bigger signature and avatar size.

Do you really think Val is doing this for your own pleasure? He's been at it for years and what does he get in return? SPAM, that's what.

HC has 4383 members. that's over 21.ooo bucks a month
But imho I think val should cut the last 3 zeros when he estimates the profit.
I reckon 4 is the number of members that will pay

tigris,

Many of those members are inactive. So the profit is alot less.

What we will have on HC is a bunch of people who will actually enjoy being here.

As I said, 5$ is peanuts.

thing is that many members don't have a credit card, nor do they have acces to an international money transfer account. Many don't have the means necesary in their country to phisically undertake the banking operations. So even f they can spare 5 bucks, how will they pay?

Everyone can afford $5 a month, eh?

Open your eyes, man. Not everyone lives in North America, West Europe and the like. For me, 5USD equals to over 30zl, which is over my average monthly expenditures. Think I'm gonna double my expenses to keep my unlimited membership on a discussion board?

All this is a joke.

Hey, exclusive clubs for rich people seems to be fashionable these days, so why not turn HC into one too? I mean, these poor, respectless kids have been all over this place for ages, spamming and commiting other acts of dissent and subversion.

I say enough is enough! We have to keep HC free from all the parasites, and the other unwelcome elements! You know, kinda like all those walled suburbs? Or like Festung Europa? Yeah, that'll be sweet. Barbed wire, armed guards, tall fences, rabid dogs, maybe even a small minefield?

I can understand that Valeriy gets sick and tired of us all from time to time, but Lord_pc made an excellent point in another thread: That we come here and post/lurk on a regular basis clearly shows that a lot of people do care -- even if it's a little hard for them to show their appreciation all the time.

But many of the people here are kids, many of whom have rather limited economies, and also limited opportunities to pay for such a service.

As for the payment itself -- is that even legal?
I know Valeriy has created the main frameworks of this place from scratch (and a hundred thousand kudos to him for that), but it's we, the members, who have filled his framework with content. And now he wants us to pay for what we have made? How's that for a perfect picture of capitalism for you?

As for me, I haven't really been around a lot in the last couple of months, since a lot of my friends here got busy in RL, and I myself am quite busy, too. But I occationally come here to lurk, post a few posts (sadly, most of it has been spam lately), and catch up with my friends. However, if I have to pay to use the site, I'm off for good. The only reason I joined in the first place, a little more than three years ago, was that it was free. (I've always wanted to make a donation, but I have an instinctive distrust of PayPal -- even that name invites distrust. My pal? And they want me to pay? wtf?! ) I am not prepared to pay $5 a month for something I use only on occation, something I -- obviously -- can get for free anywhere else, since I'm not too into the whole Heroes-thing. Sure, this place has its own very special atmosphere, and its own very special clientele, but I'm not sure I want to pay to get that -- no matter how small the fee is, for me.

Again, no demeaning of Valeriy's work is intended here. He's one of the best and most dedicated Admins I've ever encountered, but this idea that you have to pay to enter the Community -- it disgusts me down to the very core. That I can afford to pay $5 per month, doesn't mean that everyone can. And, since not everyone can join here, I choose to leave, for good, in solidarity.

However, since I still have hope of Valeriy getting back to his senses, I'll let you real regulars discuss this in peace and quiet.

Only one last thing: If you decide to go through with this, Valeriy, then HC will die. I very much doubt that the market's demand for this product will be large enough to replace the members driven off by this. Not to mention that by limiting ("crippling" is perhaps a more fitting word) recruitment, HC will miss potentially constructive members, since not everyone who likes and knows about HoMM are prepared or even able to pay for it.

Anyway, I still nurture the faint hope that this is all just a disgusting April's Fool jok that went awfully wrong. I guess I'll find out.
Until next time, good luck. And thanks for 3,5 splendid and developing years.

Until then, I'll be at GG.

I will sign.
I am not willing to fork out 5$ just to post my opinions and things I have to say.
People like having fun and posting stuff, they like it free.
But when you make it so that we have to pay 5$ to post things, then your member count will decrease from about 400 to about 200 or 500.
This is not on.
People like free things, I for one came here to say my thoughts and post things that would be interesting and I came here because it is free.
I have seen some sites where you have to pay and let me tell you, there is not as many members there as there are here.
Members will leave HC if you have to pay.
And if you have to pay I would most likely to leave aswell.

I want HC to be free as it is now, and not be able to pay to enter this site, or pay to post things.

30ZL? No, no no my friend, 20 ZL, unless something has changed and 1 USD is not 4 ZL any more.

Anyway, it will be hard to pay.

AFAIK, I USD is about 2,50 ZL. This means that 5 USD are about 12,50 Zł for us.
Val, how about making different prices for different currencies?

or
4 Euro

I'd say that the fee should be 0. Do you want me to send you 0 USD via paypal, Val? Or do you prefer sending zero in an envelope? You choose. I don't mind paying 0.

I like HC and I hope that you decide to make it stay as it is right now.

My father's company once faced a terrible problem with the security of the payment system. The leak was large and the damage was enormous. If not for the site https://www.verygoodsecurity.com/blog/posts/what-is-pci-compliance/, then we would not be able to regain the trust of our customers and partners.
