i think this is a very interesting thread. Good job DonIgnatio . It is very interesting because before important battles you might not be able to hire everything you got, and some troops you might not even hire until an important battle is in sight.

So it just tells you that in some cases you might want to hire lower lvl creatures than your top dogs. This might put you at a small disadvantage, but your opponent might focus his attention more or the units that deal less damage and leave you less honoured critters alone.

Why don't you have regular clops? Clop Kings are the worst upgrade in the game. At 1100 gold each, clop kings fall really far behind. The regular clops @ 750 each are a very good deal for a level 6 shooter. 26 clops have 1820 hp, they do 468 base damage and they can shoot!!!
What about the wolf raiders? 142 of them will have 1420 hit points and will do 994 base damage (!) when they attack. Their biggest problem is that they will get wiped by the ancients before they get a chance to deal their enormous double damage.
Ancients are the best deal for a level 7, IMHO. If not, they are close to a tie with the Phoenixes. 1800 hp and 240 base damage. The base damage may look a little low, but their special ensures they they'll have at least 100% damage bonus on a barbarian hero. 9 speed also helps.
I am not exactly sure why you listed Orc CHIEFTAINS (a really crappy upgrade of a very weak unit) and hobgoblins (50 gold for a level 1 with 5 hp and 1-2 damage range? no, thank you!)
Even though this is a very hard choice, I'll pick ancients.

I knew it is avery hard choice. Next one, also hard:
You have 17 000 and you can either have:
-lizardmen/lizardwarriors
-basilisk/greater basilisks
-wyverns/wyvern monarch
Of course, all of them are unlimited.
For the previous one I'd pick behs too.

Well, it is just that I would like to know which one to pick after a couple of populations and less money. 42 greater basilisk IMO are the best choice. They pack a nice 336 average damage, plus a stoning ability, and they have a good speed.
15 wyverns deal 300 average dmg, but their venom ability doesn't do as much good as basilisks stoning.
121 lizardmen are nice with their 423,5 average damage, which can do quite a lot, but they are too slow IMO and they couldn't resist basilisks' stoning.

Warriors:
damage: 423,5
HP: 1815

G. Basilisks:
damage: 336
HP: 1680

Monarchs
damage: 300
HP: 1050

Nuff said

ah! It is always warriors + wyverns for me.
I'll definitely take wyverns because they will usually be your main powerstack after you visit a few hives or double build another fortress.
I'll take warriors because you want to have smth ranged in your army.
Crappylisks are the last unit I'd hire. They aren't nearly as useful as the rest of fortress critters. Just an average walker.
