Best lev 6 unit in HOMM2

In this post of mine, I have included the following:
The Cretures descriptions and what they are good at and their special abilities, Side by Side information of all the creatures stats such as Attack, defense, Damage, HPs and speed, How much the units cost and how much the buildings cost that allow you to buy the lev 6 unit, so I hope you like it.

Ok here are the creatures.

Black Dragon-One of the strongest units in the game. It can fly, it's attack affects 2 hexes, and they are immune to all spells which can be good in some ways and bad in some other ways as you can't cast any good spells on it such as Bless or Haste.
But the enemy can't cast blind or hypnotize which can be really annoying spells.
Compared to Green Dragons, Black Dragons have the following:
20% more damage potential, 50% more HPs, 10-20% less damage suffered, and they have +2 speed which is good so that means that Black Dragons will usually always go first in battle.
They are however pretty expensive so watch out for that, and also try to combine the Spell Armaggedon with your Dragons, since they are immune to all spells they will not get hurt, and the spell will probably wipe the entire enemy out, and if it doesn't then it will probably have taken alot of the enemy units out.

Titans-My favourite unit in the entire game. It is a ranged attacker and as such they get to attack without being attacked first. What I mean is that they get 2 attacks during that round. One without retaliation because the target enemy hasn't moved yet, and it's retaliation attack if the enemy unit attacks the Titans. The Titans do cost the most to buy in the game, so that is something to watch out for. Titans are immune to mind spells such as Blind, Berserk etc. They also have no adjacent penalty, so what that means is that they can shoot at their enemy if it is right next to your Titan and your Titan will do full damage to it, rather than having damage taken off. With Titans having high HPs they are usually the target of the AI, so be careful of that. The AI will almost always cast Disrupting ray on your Titans and that can be really annoying so either cast Stoneskin or Steelskin on your Titans, and then wipe the enemy out as fast as you can.

Crusader-The Crusader is very good against Necromancer.
They cannot be Cursed, and they score x2 damage against undead creatures that's why they are good against Necromancer and they also attack twice.
also their 20-40 damage per turn is really good and is the third best in the game. For anyone not knowing what that means, I mean that because they attack twice their damage of 10-20 would be doubled and be 20-40 because of their x2 attack.
Although they have the lowest HPs in the game, because of their special skills they are a feared unit and they are very useful on the battlefield so either watch out for them, or don't vs Crusaders if you are a Necromancer and you have weak units in your army because they will get slaughtered, and I don't think we would want that now would we

Phoenix-The Phoenix have a 2-hex attack, they are immune to elemental spells such as Cold ray, Lightning bolt etc. They are very fast creatures to have in your army, and because they are so fast, you will probably get the first shot.
Their 2-hex attack can be good as you can take out 2 enemy units at the same time if they are right next to eachother, and it can be bad because if one of your own troops is right next to the target enemy unit, then your unit will get hit or even killed.
If you Bless your Phoenix their damage is about as good as the Black Dragons, they give 33% more damage on average. They are a good unit to have in your army and should be used with care.

Bone Dragons-They are a really powerful unit to have, with an average damage of 35.
Their special is, they reduce enemy morale which is good, but extremely useless when fighting another Necromancer town, and they are undead so they have neutral morale which is good as they wont freeze in combat, and it is also good if you are versing another Necromancer town and they have Bone Dragons in their army.
They are slow however and they probably wont get that first shot when fighting Wizard, Warlock, Sorceress.
They are powerful and are a strong unit to have.

Cyclops (Couldn't fit in)-The Cyclops is a really good ground unit to have. Their attack affects 2 hexes, and they have 10% chance to paralyze enemy units. The Cyclops is my favourit ground unit in the game, and at times however they can be a bit annoying.
Their 2 hex attack can affect your own units, and it will either kill them or take alot of units out.
Their 10% chance to paralyze enemy units can be extremely useful as then you can attack the enemy unit and they can't retaliate from the attack that't the Cyclops do to them.
When moving the Cyclops you should take care as they can be really powerful units and they should be taken really seriously.

Genies- You could consider these units to be a level 6 unit.
They have more damage then Crusaders and Cyclops, but they don't have about the same attack and defense skills as lev6 unit do. They also don't have the HPs that lev6 units do, but they are very fast. They are between Paladin and Phoenix in power.
Genies fly, and they have 10% chance to halve the enemy unit.
They also cost really cheap and they are always useful if you want a little bit more power in your army.

Here is the side by side stats of all the units and the best unit in the skill:

ATTACK SKILL:
Black Dragons-14
Titans-15
Crusaders-11
Phoenixs-12
Bone Dragons-11
Cyclops-12
Genies-10

The Titans have the most Attack skill in the game.

DEFENSE SKILL:
Black Dragons-14
Titans-15
Crusaders-12
Phoenixs-10
Bone Dragons-9
Cyclops-9
Genies-9

The Titans have the highest Defense skill in the game.

DAMAGE:
Black Dragons- 25-50
Titans- 20-30
Crusader- 10-20 (can be 20-40 because of double attack)
Phoenixs- 20-40
Bone Dragons- 25-45
Cyclops- 12-24
Genies- 20-30

Black Dragons have the highest damage dealt in the game.

HPs:
Black Dragons-300
Titans-300
Crusaders-65
Phoenixs-100
Bone Dragons-150
Cyclops-80
Genies-50

Titans and Black Dragons both have the same amount of HPs in the game.

SPEED:
Black Dragons-Very Fast (6)
Titans-Very Fast (6)
Crusaders-Very Fast (6)
Phoenixs-Ultra Fast (7)
Bone Dragons-Average (4)
Cyclops-Fast (5)
Genies-Very Fast (6)

The Phoenixs are the fastest units in the game.

Here is the table of all the lev 6 units in the game, just for easier viewing.

I got the numbers off a FAQ of HOMM2 if anyone was wondering

Titans are the best in attack, defense skills, Black Dragons deal the most damage, Black Dragons and Titans have the most HP,              and Phoenix are the Fastest unit in the game.

So their you have it, there are the creatures, their descriptions and what they are good for, and their attack, defense skills, their HPs, damage and speed all in side by side information for easier viewing of what creature is the best unit.

Here are the costs of the units. Included are the names of the units, the cost of the buildings and their upgrades if any, and the cost of the unit.

The Titans cost the most out of any lev 6 unit in the game.
The combined cost of all the lev6 units in the game is:
14000 gold, 2 sulfur, 3 gems, 1 mercury, 1 crystal.
That isn't that bad, but it is good compared to how much the Buildings cost which is shown below.
The combined cost of all of these dwellings is:
86000 gold, 50 wood, 110 ore, 45 gems, 55 crystal, 25 mercury, 45 sulfur.
This is quite alot to buy, and with these statistics, I think that you can clearly see that you will need alot of Ore and of course Gold.
This is only with the lev 6 dwellings, imagine how much you will need to buy all of the buildings in the entire game!!!

Conclusion: Black Dragons deal the most damage in the game and they also have the most HP equal with the Titans.
Titans have the highest Attack and Defense skills and they have equal HP to the Black Dragons as mentioned above.
So it is out of the Dragons and the Titans.
The Titans don't have as high Damage as the Dragons but they have more attack and defense.
It could be either anyone who wins, so I will let the Memebers here at HC decide what is the best unit in HOMM2.
The Weakest lev 6 unit in the game would have to be the Genies. Some people may not consider Genies to be a lev 6 unit, but in my opinion I think that they are. They have low HPs, low attack and defense skills, they have good speed which is a plus, and they have the same damage as Titans which is good.
But because they have the lowest HPs for a lev 6 unit, they are in my opinion the weakest lev 6 unit in the game.

Hope that you liked reading this Post.
A little bit of information was taken from a HOMM2 FAQ for anyone that was wondering

EDIT: finally got the tables into this post, I hope you like reading them

In my opinion, bone dragons are the best 6 level creature. Although very underestimated, if you can unleash their potential, they become a killing machine. But they have some disadvantages that we need to overcome:

1. Low speed
Bone dragons have average speed, meaning that most archers will outspeed him. I am not talking about orc chieftains, I am talking about titans, war trolls, greater druids, grand elves nd archmages. This gives them a first, often deadly for our dragons, shot. Solution:
-Keep a handy stack of liches to take firepower on them
-Cast spells like haste and mass haste to ensure that bone dragons go first
-Cast spells like shield and mass shield, so that you can act after shooters without taking too much damage.

2. Low Hit Points
Very big disadvantage. Bone dragons have average hp (150), but it is really less compared to titans, for example. Direct damage spells can decimate dragons easily, while their low speed (average) makes them fodder for shooters. Solution:
-Keep a stack of liches to take damage instead of dragons.
-Cast spells like shield and mass shield to reduce damage from ranged attacks
-Cast spells like stoneskin or steelsking to increase defence and reduce damage
-Cast antimagic to cancel all spell damage.

3. Low attack and defence
Let's face it: bone dragons have the lowest primary stats amongst all 6-level units. Their damage compensates for that, but even though its a shame for them to have attack 11 and defence 9. Solution:
-Hire a knight or barbarian and give the army to him, so that he can increase dragons' stats
-Improve the primary skills of your own heroes (artifacts, new levels, necromancer is quite balanced when it comes to percentage of primary skills)
-Cast spells like bloodlust and stoneskin, so that your dragons can wreak havoc with newly increased stats.

Though they have some big disadvantages, bone dragons prove to be useful in many ways.

1. Damage
Bone dragons have second best damage. They really give much punishment in great numbers, especially to creatures with low HP. Advantage can be used:
-to destroy opponents big stacks of weaklings (orcs, halfings, peasants) Remember to attack first!
-to mess with shooters, as they usually have low hp.

2. Price
Bone dragons do not require any resources other than gold and that's a huge advantage, because after you built their dwellings, you can scrap all other resources on marketplace. Bone dragons also are incredibly cheap (3rd cheapest). From Val's page:
Quote:
2 bone dragons are a better deal than warlock's green dragon for the same price.

Advantage can be used:
-To save precious resources
-To buy huge amounts of these guys for almost nothing

3. Speed
I don't mean their battle speed, but how quick you can build them. Starting with graveyard, you can build laboratory day 3 (mage guild day one, mausoleum day 2) and beginning to sweep across the map even before the first population! The combination of skeletons + zombies + liches + bonies is quite good for the early game. Advantage can be used:
-To win in no time
-To attack your opponent unprepared with statue and well in the castle
-To gain all mines in your region by first week.

4. Morale
Ever noticed that opponent likes to have a mixed army of many units? That gives him low morale, but usually -1 morale is not that bad. With bone dragons you can make that -2, which is more threat! Advantage can be used:
-To decrease opponents high morale
-To make his troops very likely to fall
-To shoot all his troops down while they are frozen in fear.

Tactics:
Bone Dragons are a unit that can be used for everything. There are countless tactics for them, though only some are important:

1. Mass!
Get one of your heroes to expert necromancy and give him the army of your bone dragons. Attack the stack of many weaklings (like a hundred of peasants). Let the dragon do the job (support him with spells) and amass your horde of skeletons. After some time you won't need bone dragons.

2. Shooters
Day 1 Week 2 you should have laboratory and well. Take 4 dragons (there should be 4 by now) and split them into 4 stacks of 1. Now you can wreak havoc amongst slow shooters that blocked your way to the gold mine.

3. If you don't move, I am going to shoot!
With their -1 morale bonus, bone dragons with liches are a deadly combo. A bad stack of walkers won't be a problem with black dragons, because they will freeze while your liches smack them hard from distance. If one lucky walker makes it, you got bone dragons.

4. I am not going to wait
Once you get bone dragons, dont wait! Never hesitate to attack with huge stacks of these in early game, when opponent has maximum 4-level dwelling. Try to eliminate as many opponents in first month, as possible. I usually eliminate 2 in my first 3 weeks, unless they are really far away.

That is all I have to say about my favourite level 6 creature, bone dragons. If you read that far, it is nice that you gave me your attention.

I've always liked the Phoenix. It's the fastest creature in the game (excluding Champions of course), and is strong in its own way. Its stats aren't as strong as other level 6s, but it's a force to reckon with.

Phoenix is my 2nd favourite. It has many advantages over the bone dragon (fire breathing, immunity to damage spells, ultra fast), though I still think that bone dragon is better (-1 morale to your enemy, higher hp and damage, can't be blinded and cursed)

Phoenix, if deployed properly, can cause enormous amount of damage. I think everybody knows the old "no retaliation" tactic with phoenoxes, when you attack 2 creatures, one weak and one strong standing behind the weak one. The strong one is damaged, the weak one dies, while the phoenix is unharmed.

Also, phoenix is incredible with hit and run tactics. Hit and run works every time (just split the phoenixes to have one stack of many and one stack of one), unless you fight against knight with champions. Even with champions, they cannot always reach you, neither they can cast a damage spell.

Next important thing about phoenixes is their price. 2 phoenixes make a much better deal than one greenie, though they cost the same. So go ahead and produce red tower week one, to have 4 phoenixes week 2!

Fofa, I do understand your point, but I love undead and if phoenix was undead, I would maybe play sorceress.
Keep up the good work.

The Titans are probably the best unit in the game aswell as the Black Dragons. Blakc Dragons fly and are therefor very fast, and Titans shot so they do not need to move at all which is good as the enemy has to move to the Titans and the Titans do not need to move at all during the combat.

It does float mine.

Anyway, although It is weak, I am also a great fan of kinght. I also noticed that knight can rock (even in the late game), If you manage to play properly. If you get paladins instead of cavaliers day seven, you can easily start wiping everything on your way. I played a game "undead armies". I chose knight, to see how long will it take AI to wipe me out. And, surprisungly, I won.

By having crusaders weak 1, I was able to wipe my neighbouring wizard (only got to rocs, poor fellow) very easily. Then I took some troops (rocs and boars) from his town and rushed north, with about 5 crusaders. Then I got a bit of truble with sorceress - crusaders have low hp, so they are vulnerable to direct damage spells. Besides the powerful spells, my sorceress didn't have anything powerful, only a bunch of unicorns and a masses of shooters, but I dealt with that.

After that, the mid-game begun. Purple necro was wiped by his red necro neighbour (I though they were allies ) and so red started to attack barbarian on the very south. I quickly chained a new bunch of troops (got 6 crusaders) using a nice 7-level hero with adv. logistics and expert pathfinding, who luckily apppeared in my tavern.

My main (tyro) was really well prepared for siege, with expert ballistics and fast troops castle walls meant nothing to me, because when 2 turn started and my army was in the moat, ready to move inside the castle, most of the walls were severely damaged.

I moved in the dirt zone, capturing his 2 necro castles. Meanwhile, he wiped out barbarian, and this became a fight between me and him. He only got 2 castles (barbarian and necro captured from purple). I double built bone dragons and assembled an army out of ultra fast champions, bone dragons, crusaders, power liches and  rangers. I was pretty well prepared for further exploring. I sent my other hero (Ruby) to the north-east, to find his necro castle, while my main rushed south to capture the barbarian castle.

Then, there was a crush. We actually traded the castles, because I capture his barbarian and necro, while he captured my 2 necros and begun to move westwards. Unfortunately, I didn't come early enough and my Tyro had to fight a new bunch of bone dragons. After one more week I wiped out the necro. Mostly because of 17 crusaders, which made wonders inside catle walls (who's next you undead ********?)

I like the Warlock's Black Dragons the best of the Heroes II units.

But I really think all of the level 6 units are very good with the exception of the Crusaders, which are definitely sub-par in just about everything except against undead.

Yeah Black Dragons were good, but in my opinion I think that Titans are just a bit better.
They have higher attack and defense skill which is god, they do have lower damage, they have the same hit points as Black Dragons, and they are just a good unit to have.
They do however cost the most to buy out of any of the other lev6 units in the game which can be a bit bad.
Like SuperSonic sadi in his first post. Bone Dragons are weak but their damage compensates for that. Either put them with a Barbarian or with a Knight hero, because they both have good attack and defense skills, and that is what you need for your Bone Dragons.
They have good damage second best in the game, but their attack and defense skill is lowsy, so that is something to watch out for, thats why you should put them in with a Barbarian or Knight hero.
They are really good creatures and they have a good skills, but with Titans having much higher attack and defense skill they can be in a little bit of trouble.
The Black Dragons have the second highest attack and defense skill in the game of being 14 for both.
With Titans having 15 for both attack and defense skills, they can be a rather nasty creature to face in combat so watch out for them when they are in high numbers.
If you are versin Titans and they are in high numbers either have a couple of Black Dragons in your army, or have a massive stack of a relatively strong unit like maybe a lev5 or lev4 unit as they can be quite strong when they have a big stack.

EDIT: The Crusaders are not a unit to be mistaken for being weak, which they definately are not.
They deal 2x damage towards Necro units, making their damage about 20-40 If im not mistaken or it may be 20-30, im sure its 20-40 but anyway, that makes them stronger than Titans in Damage wise, but not in attack, defense and all that.
They are still a little weak because of poor defense and attack but their damage when versing necro is something to be considered.
