Bye

I think its time for a last good-bye, although i know that there are no peeps left from the good times during TOH seasons 1-4 I had lots of fun with, and i know that there are no peeps left that enjoyed reading some of my posts here in the Library. Thats cause im always the last who leaves a place which is no longer the place it used to be and no longer the place peeps did enjoy. Looks like im kind of nostalgic, thats maybe why.

So this is the post to the few that know from the fun times back years ago. Maybe some of you still do visit this place from time to time and do get the same smile like i do thinking about it.

Well thanks to all the peeps i couldve fun with.

Bye

Aufwiedersehen

I never met you online Xarfax, but sure I am sad if your decision is definite. My best wishes to whatever you are going to do in the future. I hope though you change your mind and stay in this place.

Good luck and thanks for everything you shared with us all this time.

So are the members or the posts the most valuable 'assets' of HC?

Personally I've learned a lot from Xarfax' insightful posts and have enjoyed reading and re-testing several detailed sample situations - for instance the ones on doing topes.  All that information whiped out is a pity, but you won't forget the things that struck you the most and other than that... just play the game with open eyes and learn.

If you fail to see that Xarfax leaving is the true loss here - not the deletion of those library posts, then perhaps you do not possess the maturity it takes to play a role of authority here yourself.

Blowing up all bridges behind you and leaving everything in ashes perhaps isn't the most gentle way of handling things.  But it works in that you have nothing to return to.  The choices you regret the most are the ones you do not make.  The way I see it Xarfax leaves and takes his knowledge with him because he feels most of you don't deserve it.  Reading the reactions above I can hardly argue with that.

Good luck Xar!

It's kind of like the golden goose. Which is more important: the goose or the eggs? If you're just starting, you need money, so you need the goose to get the golden eggs. If you have trillions of eggs already, then you don't need the goose anymore. I don't think HC is there yet, though.

On a different note: Bye.

Does anyone know what this is about? I do. Even though I was asleep when it happened.

This is about English grammar.

It's about a flamewar. Like a typical flamewar, insults and accusations were made about all kind of things. But it was English grammar that triggered it. Xarfax doesn't have perfect English, but so what?

This is about the "Not in Manual" thread. Part way through, Xarfax got busy with RL and asked if I would take over. I agreed. I would take over the list until completion, and Xarfax would have FINAL SAY in the end product. I had far more at stake in this than anyone else involved.....easily over 100 hours work. I knew the rules from the start. And I *KNEW* that the final edit by Xarfax would introduce grammatical errors. I accepted that when I agreed to take over.

Even knowing what would happen, I checked the spelling, added the missing articles, corrected the verb tenses, blah, blah, blah. I did it because I said I would, and because I chose to. I didn't even care about the final product. I did my job and tried to do it well. Did everyone expect perfection from me? I didn't, and I didn't expect perfection from Xarfax either.

The thread was a great thread. Even veteran players learned new things in that thread. Was the end product really so important? Or was it the route getting there that was important? Did you guys make your posts, or run your tests, because you thought you might get some dubious reward in the end? Or did you do it because you wanted to, because you enjoyed it, or wanted to make a contribution to a good thread?

Because of what happened, was your time and effort somehow wasted? Does that mean you will never do anything without knowing how it will turn out in the end? Does that mean you will never play a game unless you know you will win? It's the process of doing something that's important - the process of doing a good job, or playing a good game.

The people involved are entirely non-native English speakers. Shame on you for making such a big deal out of someone's imperfect English. I'm the one who corrected all the grammar. And I'm telling you I don't care if it got changed. OK, I do care. But certainly not enough to start a flamewar. I was perfectly willing to let it go.

I made a post politely saying there were some grammar problems. And I used plenty of smiles. If nothing came of it, I was willing to accept what I knew from the start...that Xarfax had the final say. It was his thread and his project, period.

Yea, there were a few minor issues other than grammar. But the people involved know what the major issue was....grammar. We lose one of the most knowledgeable people about the game, a longtime member of HC, and several good posts. Why? Because of freekin grammar. Because people make a big deal out of something that doesn't even matter. Is noun verb agreement really that important?

Good working with you Xarfax. What you did deleting the posts was wrong, but I think you know that. But good working with you anyway. I've learned a lot from you, and so have a lot of other people.

If people haven't yet figured out what this is all about...

Darn, I really WANTED to keep out of this thread, BUT...

...You leave me with no other choice, Bin.

You didn't understand quite right the summary of the flame war I HCMed you, it seems. Or you at least ran to the wrong conclusions. This wasn't AT ALL about grammar. It was about EGO.

If Xarfie really left because of our argument, that would mean he's even less mature than my 6 years old niece. Of course this wasn't the real reason why he left !

I doubt this is anywhere near serious. Xar knows Val has a backup feature, he knows his posts will be restored eventually, and my guess is he plans to make a come back anyways.

The Not In The Manual is a project that Xarfax STARTED. HE came up with the IDEA, true. But it was a COLLECTIVE project all along.

I for one NEVER agreed on being Xarfie's slave on this one. And believe it or not, I did approximately as much work as you did, Bin, and certainly at least as much as X. did. I involved very deeply into this project. And yes, I DO care for the final result, as much as the process itself.

When someone dies, all that remains is what he achieved during his time, NOT what he almost achieved. RL sure taught me that the hard way.

For those who care, here is the part of this whole soap opera that apparently offended Xarfie the most :
Quote:
Of course I know you meant no harm when you did these modifications. Which is precisely why I refered to your ego : assuming you could single-handedly improve the final result of our collective work was a typical manifestation of an over-sized ego.
Now, you can break your toys and push it as far as you will, Xarfie, this won't change that fact. IF you're really leaving, it's out of spite and jealousy. It's because you can't roleplay the King anymore. Not with me, at the very least.

Well, like I said earlier, I'll miss you also. Farewell, my evil friend !

Now, if some of you feel like doing a witch hunt over it, be my guests : " Evil Legend ! It's all your fault for not taking **** from him ! Why oh why did you have to treat him as a grown-up ? " And so on. Lmao

Legend.

Hit and run?

Last night I saw what you did on your Collector's Cut thread, but I hoped you could change your mind and restore the stuff you had there. Anyway, due to RL matters (take a look on your new avatar) I couldn't stay in front of my pc and write some things. Now that a new day has come I don't know what to say. I mean, I can not explain your behaviour ...
Certainly, this is an action of Hit and Run by someone preaching out that Hit&Run is so lousy. And instead of giving the good example to people around you, you just simply Hit and then Run. So, are you for or against Hit&Run after all? Are you the same person that used to share his skills and tricks and was proud of doing so? Your long and detailed posts in the past showed your passion with the game. But now it's all ruined. And a bitter taste remains on everyones lips. I think that casting such an Armageddon will harm you more than HC. But what do I know? You think that:
Quote:
... i know that there are no peeps left that enjoyed reading some of my posts here in the Library.

which is certainly not true. I was one of those peeps that really enjoyed reading your posts and certainly all those that have rejected your behaviour are among them as well. I used to respect every single bit of your thoughts and I would think at least twice before saying out loud an opinion different than yours. Perhaps you didn't deserve so much respect after all. Just a note for future reference: I still respect you probably more than anyone else in HC, but your attitude is weird and makes me sceptical. But again, who am I and what do I know? After all you started this thread with the comment:
Quote:
So this is the post to the few that know from the fun times back years ago (TOH seasons 1-4).

and I am not among them. I really wish I could, since it seems it was so much fun, but I can't help it. I first played Heroes probably when all those seasons were over. Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered to write a single thing on this thread, since I am not among the people your BYE refers to. But I couldn't help it. It is Hit & Run after all and the Armageddon you casted influences me as well.

My best regards and hope I can meet you either online or in RL sometime in the near future.
