Unit and town restriction question

Why is it that the number of possible creatures and town in HOMM3 is restricted? And how is it posible to overcome this problem? (How does the Bastion team plan to add the new town?)

I was thinking that they will replace another town....
But as I know you cant overcome this....only in the 3.59 it would be posible to add new town or monster....

Although the number of possible creatures is restricted to 255, that still leaves enough unused (as of 3.58f) to add the creatures for a new town.

As for the town itself, it's still unknown for sure whether a new town can be added or not. If not, I suppose an existing town would have to be replaced, but we're hoping that a new town may be added somehow.

How many of the 255 creature slots are currently filled?

Dracolich is #196. That was the last creature added in 3.58f. No new creatures have been added yet in 3.59 although I think some probably will be eventually, in addition to new town creatures.

Anyway, I guess it's really 256 (0..255), so if 0..196 are used, that means we have: 256 -197 = 59 available slots.

There are also 4 "unused" slots (inbetween some elementals) but I think they may be unusable or tricky to use for various technical reasons (at least that's what I've heard).

A town requires 14 creatures plus 1 level 8 and 2 slots for the Commander. So 17 total per town.

However, we hope to add an additional Commander to each town in 3.59, which would mean 9 x 2 = 18 more slots needed for the existing towns (two per Commander as before). That would leave only 59 -18 = 41 slots available and would also mean that a new town would actually require 19 slots instead of 17.

I'm just wondering how many slots for extra creatures will be left available with the new towns and extra add-ons like AcidDragon's and BJ's patches.
But I guess, if we run out of room, we can always remove unnecessary creatures like the 4 messengers, 1 of the sharpshooter types and unify the god's emissaries into a single one.

This is required in order to track the Commanders' abilitities separately on the battlefield if both the Attacker and Defender have the same type of Commander.

No 'extra' add-on adds any creatures. the New Upgrades patch olny replaces some creatures - 4 messangers and 2 sharpshooters to be exact.

As for the slots - if everything works out, after 3.59 there will be about 10 to 18 slots left for new creatures.

As far as I know THERE IS NO WAY.

At least not without the source code.

However if we manage to realize all the plans for 3.59, there will be some slots left to customize them on your own, so potentially in the future you may add your own creatures within that limit.

However this is still very uncertain as that needs a lot of coding work, which, as far as I know, hasn't even started.
