Best Artifact in HOMM3 includes expansions
I think that maybe the best artifact in HOMM3 is probably the Armaggedons Blade.
Im just trying to think if there is another good one, but I can't think right now  .
The Armaggedons Blade adds +3 to your primary skills, and renders your units immune to the Armaggedon spell, which is extremely useful as Armaggedon is a really strong spell, and with it you should be able to kill your opponents units easily.
If you don't have the Armaggedons Blade and you do cast Armaggedon it will affect your own units aswell either killing them, or taking alot of them out and leaving very little units left standing.
It is a strong spell and with the artifact your units become immune to it, and you now have a really good combination.
Another couple of Artifacts could be The Elixer of Life which gives all creatures in your army 25% health bonus, and they gain the regeneration ability, which is really good to have and know.
The only problem with this artifact is that it doesn't work on undead or non-living creatures, so it wouldn't work on Gargoyles or Golems I don't think, and it wouldn't work on the Necro creatures aswell.
Another good one would probably be the Power of the Dragon Father. It adds +6 to all primary skills, and it makes all of your units immune to 1-4 level spells, and that is really good to have.
It works on the undead aswell which is good and it also works on the non-living creatures and that is also good.
It is a really good combination artifact to have and if you do have it, then you will guranteed yourself victory, and if your opponent has it, then you better wish that you have really high level troops and that you have alot of them otherwise you will probably die, and as it would grant your opponents troops immunity from 1-4 level spells, you should cast your spells which are above lev4 like Implosion or something else, and then kill the enemy if you can and if you have high attack, defense, power and knowledge skills and if you don't, then you will probably die, so watch out for that.

Best Artifact???
Maybe the Cloak of the Undead King. just imagine, we can get a lot of liches after battle. Just play with Death Knight or Necromancer, or find them in tavern, then make their necromancy skill to be expert. Victory is yours!!!!!!

Bird of Perception, naturally. But if I didn't get my hands on that one, I'd have to settle for Cloak of the Undead King.

Yeah Tome of Earth is good, I also like Angelic Alliance, it is a really cool and good artifact to have.

I remember one time I got a necro dude out of a prison and I gave him the cloak and 4 turns later he had like 350 liches in his army. After that we decided to ban it.
One dangerous combo artifact is the armour of the damned, because it's relatively easy to make compared to the other combo artifacts.
@Xarfax: That was an interesting idea, something that I had never thought of before.

Definitely Cloak of the Undead King. I remember getting it from a random gain, playing against a friend. I decided to dismiss that hero.
No Berserk or Blind that'll be with you. (=

Cloak of the Undead King surely is my favorite. It became what it is after i finished the Rise of the Necromancer campaign mostly because of my 3400 liches.
I also like Power of the Dragon Father, Angelic Alliance, Statue of Legion and Spellbinder's Hat.
But for the best one, I'll just say The Grail  .

Sure Cloack of the Undead King is alright, but you wont always have Necromancer heroes to have it.
Angelic Alliance is proable the best one, or Armaggedons blade thats another good one.

It is very easy to get them in the tavern. not need many weeks. maybe just 3 - 4 weeks. Or you just play with Necropolis, you'll get it.
Other artifact that can also treated as the best is the Shackles of War. No enemy can retreat or surrender. So it is the 'Artifacts Collector'. You 'll get all of the enemy's artifact and no enemy heroes will be back in his/her tavern.

Well Shackles of War is a good artifact and so are the other ones that I have metioned before and some others that other members have mentioned.

one of the best artifacts is the boots of speed and equestrian gloves,I think. just becouse the imortance of map speed in heroes3
ps. I once had a hero with the Armour of the damned, elixir of life and cloak of the undead king on him at the same time, damn he kicked serius ass!!!

Yeah the speed is an important factor in this game.

Strange thing about Orb of Vulnerability.
In your turn, your Orb will negate all magic resistance of all creatures in battlefield.
but in your opponent's turn, your Orb effect will only work on your armies. so if your opponent cast Armageddon, his/her Black Dragon will not be affected. but your Black Dragon will.
And when you cast Armageddon too, both your and your opponent's Black Dragon will be affected.
