it's either heroes 3 or 5... heroes 3 looks a bit more like a phoinex but heroes 5 is so random and that what i like

Personally, I think HoMM 1's Phoenix kinda looks like a turkey.
I like the one from HoMM 2 best.

I agree the H1 and H4 Phoenixes looked like a chicken. The H3 Firebird was OK but somewhat funny for such a mighty creature, while the upgraded version had too much fire. The WoG renditions didn't help much either, although I prefer BIGJOCKER's Dark Phoenix. In brief, I've voted for H2. 
However, my all-time favorite Phoenix is the one we'll never get - the NWC's concept for H5:

My vote goes to H2 phoenix, the most beautiful creature in HoMM universe.
As the rest of the creatures in h1, the phoenix looks very funny.
The other phoenixes are aweful, and the h5 phoenix looks like a dragon in flames.

I like the Heroes V version the most. It's original and I realy like the webbed wings. The Heroes III versions are second, but only because they move kind of weird in the game. It realy looks like they have a hard time flying, because they're to heavy. To me it does any way.

Whats' up with the new Phoenix? it is hard to say what it looks like 'cause there is too much fire! between the flames, it looks to me like they put it a bone dragon! it doesn't look like a bird anymore!
The HOMM I Phoenix isnt flaming, and that's not good IMO. The HOMM IV Phoenix looks like a young chiken. The HOMM II Phoenix is great, but my favorite is the HOMM III Phoenix (HOMM III Rules!): it looks mighty, big and wild. The flaming body of the Phoenix units makes it even better!

remember how u've been tlaking abt changing tradition well maybe that's what Ubi and Nival did right here changed the tradition of how a phoinex should look like  and this "new" tradition is random and I like I like

Hey, I am in favor of changing things for the best, and I think the skills and abilities of the new Phoenix are great, but... the Phoenix should look more like a bird... it's not a tradition but a fantasy world fact. The Phoenix is always described at mythology and legends as a bird. IMO this is the same as making the Minotaur have 4 arms or the Hydra having only 1 head, it just seems wrong. The Phoenix has nothing to do with Dragons, but it sure looks like one IMO.

I voted H2 (twice I think...?).
H1 is just weird
H3 is okay but a little orange / enflamed
H4 looks like it's made out of lava
H5 is good (I like the unique feel), but it's shape is too strange

It does look like a plant on fire, doesn't it? Very weird ... hopefully, it'll give a better impresseon in game.
And yes, the Heroes 4 Phoenix looks like a gigantic chicken. Very cute, but not very frightening. *lol*
I'd have to say the H5 one is probably the best animated one with the fire and so, but I also have to agree with Vlaad that the NWC concept image looks really stunning.

Definetly not the H1 phoenix,because it looks like a tropical bird and it's too small.
The H2 Pheonix has an intersting fact-it has the neck and had of a rooster.Only the wings and the colour assure you that it's a pheonix.
The H3 ones could be the best,but if you've noticed,it's supposed to be the fastest creature,but it's hardly flying.Still,the Firebird is good as for H4-flaming chickens and small compared to the h3 pheonix.The new H5 pheonix seems the best to me,that is untill I'll see how fast it flies.

I don't really know how to describe the H5 phoenix. I mean what is that thing? I must agree with CoCoDemon, it looks like a burning plant.
The H4 phoenix looks like a chicken just like the H2 phoenix. The Firebird is good but its upgrade has too much on fire.
I actually like the one from H1 (hav never played the game though), but Vlaad is right: The best phoenix is the one we'll never get...

Is it really so hard to make a eagle/hawk without the bent beak, set it on fire and give it some main to its head and something to it's tail...that should be hte phoenix for crying out loud...

I voted for H2, cause it is the only one, that looks like a creature, that could even exist, the h5 is more like a firearrow than a firebird...
