Cleansing depends on the level spell was cast. If opponent casts expert level spell with higher mastery and is higher level, cleanse should fail most of the time. However that needs a research...

My understanding was that it also depended on the spell power of the caster? Is that right or wrong?

Has it really been a year since last post. Well, no that all the duel heroes are new the discussion should be up again (hopefully).
Orson has absolutely get a boost, while Raven is pretty much the same, except she's finally able to cast Mass Weakness and use her Souldrinker ability to the most.
Deirdre is on the brink of being broken; only Karli I've seen beat her. luck; even though it's capped it pretty much reduces them way off. Normally it's enough with one Banshee Howl, and it can't be dispelled; and with the artifacts from Death's embrace you get -3 now. Together with the Ghosts dragons, or the Sorrow spell, The enemy get's up to -7 She should be nerfed a bit after my opinion.

In fact, the chance to clean a spell only depends on the level of your
light magic and the level of the caster and the opposite caster.
the final chance = the basic chance+(cleaner lev-caster lev)*3%
for example.if you have expert light magic, then you get 100% basic chance. then your hero cast cleansing (we assum that your hero 20 level and the opponet's hero 25 level),the final chance to clean is
100%+(20-25)*3%=85%
