Nice you removed the textures! Does that thing remove shadows? That would be a speed boost.

Help needed with tribes of the east
Good evening,
I have encountered a problem with Heroes V "tibes of the east" (ver. 3.0)- 5-10 minutes after the beginning of the game (and completely randomly), the screen smudges, and the entire graphics become scrambled, resulting ultimately in computer freeze (no way to revive it except re-booting).
I suspect it has something to do with the graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 9400).
I'm playing under Windows XP (sp2),Q6600 CPU and 2GB ram.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem? what can be done to fix it?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hmm... something strange is happening with my H5... For some reason it won't start. It worked fine an hour ago but since I installed veco's wretched BRAWL replay and reinstalled Hamachi (everytime in started it my PC would suddenly crash no idea why) it refused to start. I tried removing everything I had in any mod/map/replay folder but it still doesn't want to start... anyone any ideas as to what I can do except reinstalling?
Ok... I just reinstalled the game and it still won't work... this is getting kinda of frustrating.

Yeah that's gonna solve my problem...
after some tinkering I found the cause... it's the Duel Map (the latest edition up until now I haven't played the one with the scripted gems etc.). Kinda weired since nobody else seems to experience this.
Hmm... this is a bit confusing:S. I redownloaded the map and now it works fine again (I'm 100% positive that it was the map that caused my game to not even start). Maybe I messed up the map when I just told it to overwrite the old version...? Mah anyways it works again so it's cool now .

That's strange Azagal, what kind of error did you get? How it didn't want to start? I'm just curious, maybe I can find what it was wrong with your game and map.

Installation gets stuck!
Hey there, I have a problem installing ToE.
Every time I try to install it, when it reaches about 88%, it claims a subterranena .(AdvMapObjectLink) file has a too long name and aborts. What should I doooooooo?

When you install the game, you have the option to decide in which directory you put it. Unfortunately, Windows has a maximum limit to the amount of characters it can store in a single line. Apparently in this case the file name with all subfolders above it creates a line that's too long for Windows to handle properly.
I suggest to reinstall the game and then choosing a different, shorter folder name to begin with. This should fix your issue.

For those who wish a FPS boost in H5 ....
There is a variable in the H5 user_a.cfg configuration file, called "setvar gfx_true_water_reflection = 1". Just set it to 0 and you won't have those awful 20 frames variations in your FPS count when viewing different sectors of your map. It just removes the reflection of nearby trees or other models in your local lakes, waters and so on.
You can use FRAPS to monitor your FPS count by the way.

Have you tried to do some tests with 3DMark ? Those tests are pretty stressfull on the system as a whole, and if the GC has some problem I think it will show up.
Does this problem appear in other applications ?
Do you monitor you graphic card temperature ?

Haven't tried 3Dmark testing - thanks for the suggestion.
The problem occured only in one other 3D game - Crysis. As for other applications - no problems whatsoever (including 3D modelling in Bryce and web based 3D games such as "Foo pets" if you are familiar with it).
Card temperature seems just fine.
I'll get back to you s soon as I complete the 3dmark test with the results, in the mean time - thank you for you help!

Then I have no idea why it doesn't work. I had a way worse PC before and TotE worked fine with it.
I had a Pentium 4 Celeron 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB Ram, GeForce 6200 128 MB, and game worked (not smooth, but no problems)
As you can see yours should handle it with no problem.
update drivers maybe?

That is exactly my next step - to update the driver. I see there's a new one dated March 3rd, I'll try it and see.
Thank you. :-)
