Seems that what I find as a negative aspect everybody finds as a positive one...oh well. I still think adding limited energy to raise undead is a nerf for necropolis and nobody aint changing my mind .
But hey, if you think what you think, then that means Necropolis is still the best, as it should be.

Can you increase dark energy by having other high (er, mid) level necro heroes in your army?

yep you can.one lvl20-25 hero increases dark energy points by 40-50points.so in that case you should get mentoring and make every hero in your army around lvl20

If that's the case, then it should be every necro player's objective to fast level up to mentoring!

There's nothing more frustrating than beating a stack of "X" neutrals and using all of your DE on the first day.

20. level hero with expert necromancy gives you 132 DE points, so I find it the most effective way to empower your army.

Of course 5 heroes on level 25 win the game even without moving from your territory.

Don't forget about the Pillar of Bones!

"Adds 10% to Necromancy skill of all Necromancers under player's control and grants them additional 150 points of Dark Energy (cumulative by all cities), i.e. supports Necromancy special ability."

Hmmm, how about you people post your maximum Dark Energy records? Mine was about 700, I don't remember well. I think I had 3 heroes.

Here's what I want to know: Why are liches large?  What is the reason for this nonsense?  They're no better than other ranged of their tier (like rune priests) and necromancers already have two other large units.  I cannot conceivably think of a balance reason for it.

They're not colossal skeletons or anything.  They're skeletal mages! If that doesn't scream small size I don't know what does.

Another thing: Why are there no elite undead units?  It's silly to make every single necropolis creature high in numbers but low in stats.  That'd be like making a race where every single unit is a tank unit or every single unit is a ranged unit.  It leaves any race built like that with all their eggs in one basket and no versatility.  Even the Zerg in Starcraft, much more numerous than any undead I've seen in any game, had one elite unit that was low in numbers but high in quality: the Ultralisk.

Necromancers need an elite unit because their army needs a way to deal with high tier, high stats creatures like archangels. And don't say dark magic is the answer.  Any race can pick up magic.  Their army needs to be competent as well.  Haven can pick up dark magic and more or less do the same thing but they still have awesome units.

I would have liked to see death knights as necropolis's tier 6, rather than the crap wights they got.  Toned down of course. The current death knights are way too strong.  And they would give necropolis a better look too.  Death Knights are the coolest looking unit in the game while all the necropolis uniuts are goofy looking.

Also, I really don't like the idea of making bone dragons total crap but giving them a very expensive +1 growth building.  This is nonsense.  If they're balanced to be 2/3rds as good as every other t7, don't make us pay ridiculous amounts of resources for the building that gives us an extra bone dragon that's supposed to balance it all out.  Just have their base growth be higher.

This building also takes up the +1 growth building for necropolis not as a bonus, but a balance mechanic.  Other races have their +1 growth building to good units who aren't balanced to be weaker than their counterparts by an increased growth building.  For example, Nightmares have a +1 growth building but they aren't weaker than every other tier 6 and needing their +1 building to compensate.  Same with treants and other races that have this building.  It's one of their race's bonus buildings, not a needed balance mechanic.

DO u think lich is only ranged large units?how about centaurs?they are large creature to,and it is range.
And BTW,demons have also 3 large units, orcs same, and other if am thinking. And so what if they are large?indeed units with 8 speed can atack them, but this is the game,i think ubisoft did this with a good reason.

In my opinion, the necropolis is not underpowered, on the contrary, it favors quantity over quality.

The necromacy skill (if the necromancer has expert necromacy) is very effective and the necropolis rushing ability has a lot of potential. It is in late game that they get run over. But hey, their spells are awesome

Liches are large because every faction has three four-hex sized units. It's about balance.

You contradicted yourself by using the Zerg in StarCraft as a reference to "hordes and elites." For one, the Ultralisk is the most powerful ground MELEE unit in the game. It would get pulverized by siege tanks, reavers, lurkers, or even one queen with spawn broodling. You can't say the same for Terran or Protoss's Battlecruisers or Carriers, which are areal (thus, the Ultralisk has NO chance of attacking one), and have insane range.

So that argument fails. With the Zerg, you need masses of units no matter what they are. Same with Necropolis. I mean, you can freaking get free units in every fight. That was so imba, they had to nerf it with dark energy (which I hate, but meh).

Think of the Ultralisk as the Necropolis's Bone Dragon, and the upgrades in the Ultralisk cavern as the Necropolis's Bone Dragon +1 growth building. They are both expensive and used to even out the playing field.

The reason why Necropolis does not have death knights is because they would be an imba faction unit. Chance to reduce a stack by 50%? That's like the genie from HoMM2! If you think Wraiths are bad, you have no business playing necro. What would you use to tank without it?

First of All the best Mele unit in Starcraft is the Dark Templar and ultralisk dosent have a chance with him ubgeade or not
Secdondly, from a "Pro" Sc player i can tell you that Crack-Lings are the best cost effective unit in the game...
And as for the Liches if they were small they would be too powerfull. I like the Wraight/Wight idea, but thier special is nothing special in late game Death/Dead/Buckethead Knights sucked for me, they were a bit too warhammer style (like the whole dungeon castle)

I've figured out another reason why the lich is four hexes: spell spam. Decay and or raising the dead are powerful spells.
