you don't need defense with academy? i am curious to find out where did you learn that? in the campaigns in easy difficulty? i cannot stand people that never played multiplayer with good players talk like they know everything.

I have seen my academy dying before the opponent's hero casts twice. want example? if you have academy and the opponent orcs, you need both defense, defense perks AND defense boosting artificer. otherwise the orcs just need a rush to say "gg" !

on another note, skillwheel andlevel-up is a whole different strategy. you may be the best creeper but have no idea how to level up. i was like that some time ago. i am not perfect at it yet but i learn. and YES, if for example you have 4 skills already with dungeon and no enlightenment yet, then you will take any crap you are offered until it comes.

i don't believe i am going to defend Elvin but ok!

"Defence in NOT necessary" = true fact
"Academy needs defence" = true fact

the one does not reject the other. It is all relevant to the opponent.Every experienced player would understand easily what we are talking about. That is the problem with some members that post like they know everything!

academy needs defence against all factions...mini-arties on def and initiative.when you have resources...

NO, not against all factions. plus, defense is the 3rd choice in mini arties and initiaive is the first.

Vangelis, it depends on the player
Considering they don`t posses enough resources to put 3rd effect on the mini-arties some high-ranked players put everything on attack including having attack as a skill while others put everything on defence. I think both cases have their disadvantages and advantages.

Its not that bad idea as you think.

If I have attack as attack, and orcs do not have leadership, putting up attack arties on shooters is great, especially if your attack is higher than your defense. Cuz you can take away tactics, battle frenzy and archery makes your shooters deadly rageeaters. So its very probably that ur shooters may shoot twice before they get you. Thats worth trying.

Archery is a bit hit or miss but tactics and battle frenzy I really like to have.

Can't say it is a bad strategy, but vs. orcs it 90% is , unless the orc commander is clueless of what he is supposed to do ... and leadership is the most important skill to have as orc, surpassed only by Enlightment perhaps, so assuming it is not present, would mean your opponent is half noob

I would use it only as a desperate measure, in case I would be sure that normally I'm gonna lose the game... but if I get lucky, and luck and morale are on my side, with this kind of build things can turn around , like hitting ALL-IN with mediocre cards and waiting for the best to happen

i am just very curious to see what orcs can do against and academy with

- mass weakness & mass suffering
- mass endurance
- defense skill
- defense mini artifacts

and all those are almost standard for academy! except for the rare defense skill... but still!

...nice topic, learned a lot, special thanx to Elvin for usefull information.
You can congratulate me now, I defeated Sylvian with my Galib. Magic Mirror trigered 9 times. (the battle took place in my Castle, the opponent were on siege with 3 times larger army). My biggest mistake was that I was not playing aggresive and had only my own town to manage while my friend/enemy captured all 4 AI castles one of which were (unlukely) Sylvian and I never knew that, so for 4 more weeks he had almost double army growth. He was good, but you know, never fight a wizzard in his own castle. First my saboteurs nullified his catapult so my wall stand a while before he could make a whole. Then mines arround the walls really stopped his melee army for a while. One thing I now will never forget is that for Academy, every saved turn count. I used Phoenix and Genies to stop his melle units at the walls. His archery powers slaughtered half of my army, but, thanx to my regeneration and summon dead magics I could stand his fury. There were a moment when he was one step from slaughtering me but, thanx again to Magic Mirror! After 20 minutes he ran out of mana points and were without archery power, now the victory was mine, but it lasted 25 more minutes untill I managet to kill his Triants, they don't want to die at all. I am very sorry I could not save a reply, because the game lasted more than 8 hours and I played on my laptop, which ran out of virtual memory and when I hit the SAVE REPLY button, my system just failed and gave me the "The system encountered a serious error and will be restarted" message. But gosh! What a game and what a pleasure is to win. My friend/opponent is smart enough and he saw that I was such a dumbie with my tolerant strategy so next time he will come to me faster and prepared to my magics, that's why I need to improve, so please keep posting here. This topic is really helpfull.

Well, you see, because I did not have Gargoyles at all, I had split my 80+ Archmages in 2 stacks. The Sylvian initiative make his archers strike first so one of my stack of Archmages died instantly. My Titans, Galib and the second stack of Archmages focused on enemy's archers. It took 4 turn untill I slaughtered them, meanwhile my hero was resurecting the falling Archmages. First I tried to strike with FireBall but his Magic ressistance made me then use direct shoot attack with my Archmages (this is were I should have been chosed at least one stack of BattleMages but.... =) my bad) so it worked because of my 4+Luck that triggered often enough to make my opponent angry and send me smiles like this one :-( Then of course the Archmages shoots striked also all the creatures that were standing before the enemy shooters, one more plus for me. After that my enemy started to use Vengeance on my Titans and Mages, and it was realy really bad, casue he could kill 9 to 12 of my Titans per turn. So I decided not to ressurect them and started to play Phantom Forces with my Rakshasas Rajas and sent those phantoms to the 2 holes in my walls (my Gremlins were dead by this time and his Catapult striked twise before I manage to destroy it). This was a good choose because of Phantoms chanse to deny the hits made on them. After I had summoned a pretty good Phoenix I started to rise my Titans and mages back. Now you understand that a Sylvian with no Fliers (his Dragons lasted a few moment between my Rakshasa Raja and Titans, were he sent them) and no pure Archers is no power on a Siege. Also his mana run oit and his last wo Vengeance on my rised Titans and my Rakshasas were mirrored on his Triants =) (saying this I should confess that if those two Vengeance casts would strike my Titans and my Rakshasas it would be the end, because except this two creatures, at that moment I only had a Phoenix and a cloned Rakshasa on the field and as you know if your primary creatures die your summoned creatures are eliminated instantly and you loose the fight and eventually the game). After that moment it was only a metter of time. My mana lasted long enouth to resurect and clone my only 2 creatures that standed - Rakshasas Rajas and Titans. One by one I killed his melle monsters - Unicorns and Treants. Also credit goes to Elvin for teaching me how to use Mark of the Wizzard combined with Summon/Clone Magics =) This was a big surprise for my foe :-D

Attacking archmages instead of titans doesn't make a lot of sense But then he had divine vengeance so he was probably counting on that. I hope you used a few mass buffs before you started the resurrecting, they are infinitely better in the beginning. Or at least mark of the wizard first to have double the resurrecting power. Motw + phantom is fun

Btw.. Your opponent is a noob In his place I'd have used imbue and rain of arrows with divine vengeance. That would kill you asap and your special would not trigger.
