So I decided to go Random on grass against my buddy...
On our Randomly generated map he has gone with Tower and Narxes as his starting hero. He's the type of person who will do the opposite of your good advice just because. I tell him Havez has the best start, he says f-u. But that's the way it is. I'm actually curious about Narxes with Battle Mages. I think there's a viable build there.
On grass I have decided to go random/random. I figured it would help me devise different strategies and also avoid accusations of being one-dimensional. Lo and behold I got Sylvan with Ossir on Day 1. I bought out the other 2 heroes, Grok(great for picking up my trash, and Talanar. Day 2 who pops up in my tavern but Wyngaal. I can't make this stuff up.
So I've made Wyngaal my main. I have got just about the most awesome, stupendous build I could have dreamed with him. My buddy doesn't have a clue what's about to hit him. Check this out.
Expert War Machines with Triple Ballista.
Expert Destruction with Cold Death and Evercold Icicle. Ice Bolt is in my Mage Guild and Circle of Winter was in a shrine less than a day's journey from my town. Mage Guild also Provided FireWall, Chain Lightning, and Armageddon. Lame.
Expert Log with a bunch of Pit Fiends guarding Boots of the Open Road.
Advanced Luck(no perks yet)
Advanced Attack(Had to reject Cold Steel, am holding out for Archery/Flaming Ballista)
Yes I rejected Enlightenment. It was tough but given the nature of Sylvan I think Logistics is better for Random Large maps with the town. The creatures are awesome, dirt cheap, and let you just wreck the map. Enlightnement boosts Defense more than anything, which Wyngaal doesn't really need more of, and knowledge. What's the point of a high defense when there's nothing left after your initial volley?
PinkSpear mentioned in his recent guide on Inferno about getting Hellfire and Mark of the Damned quickly. He's absolutely right. But I think this can be expanded to all the towns. With the deluge of perks for everyone in Tribes, it is imperative we get the perks associated with our Racial Skill as early as possible. I had Imbue Arrow/Rain of Arrows offered to me at the same time I was offered Basic War Machines and I haven't seen them since. I'm level 19 now and starting to get worried.
Anger Treants are the bomb diggity. Yes I said it. Build them. Build your Treants quickly. Wow, just wow.
High Druids are also another great addition. My stack of what I think 21 is giving me +9 to my SpellPower. Very, very nice.
If I'm not going Ylithin, I'm most likely going Silver Unicorns. With Ylithin, Pristine Unicorns are very scary.
Oh. Yeah. Agility Dancers are like Elven ninjas. They're also stupid good.
Will also report on how things go in this one. I seriously don't think he considers Elves with Destruction Magic scary. That's why I'm counting on him to not have magic damage reducing arties.

He soon will Btw enlightenment along with high druids and a magic imbued ballista should be scary enough But I'd rather have your build of course.

I've been playing sylvan on a hot seat map (warlords), and i got lucky.
Went with vinrael (my lil bro wanted ossir), and got a few level ups now.
The start went fine, hit expert enlightment fast along with exp logistics and basic attack, deadeye and imbue.
Then level up and there she is, war machine. No brainer and i picked it, seeing as my guilds was giving lightning bolt and there is a trident of the titans nearby .
However, a problem is that my guilds are also giving divine strength/righteous might/haste.
So im kinda in the middle of going for destro (hello triple imbue balistae) or light for the buffs.
Since i couldnt find a post about it, i wanted to ask what would YOU do if given the choice of 1 magic and imbue balistae; light or destruction?
-without taking particular spells/artifacts along... so picture it with all spells and no artifacts-
and does divine vengeance also work with imbue?

Normally destructive but with divine vengeance in play an attack from the hero and three from the ballista in one round sounds seriously imbalanced Light all the way! Cast a few buffs first and after some of your units are dead you imbue divine vengeance and watch the slaughter.

To creep, get lots of Sprites, seperate them into seven stacks, and cast Wasp Swarm with each one. Best units are Arcane Archer + Treant for defense.

I play random Large and Extra Large random maps. Creeps are too strong for me to just split my sprites. I upgrade my hunters and dancers to attack the map. And wow are they efficient.

this seems to work fine with lvl one creeps but how to creep e.g. squires? 12dmg from wasp is nothing for them

True, you need a good stack of sprites or even better dryads to do hit and run, one single sprite to divert the squire stacks and the usual deadeye shot/imbue spell. And of course the luck skill, maybe attack->battle frenzy if lucky. Of course wardancers and hunters are still used but they remain in the back waiting for a good hit when the squires are weakened. There is no specific strategy, it's just hard.

since the spirits get 15 initiative in tote, it is not hard at all to H/R
the squires.shooters are not good for creeping squires.with the spirits
you can creep them as easy as the fruies, just a little slower..

so generally creeping with sylvan is not so hard?
dryads are fast so are archers and druids seems to be also quite powerful.
what magic school is best for sylvan? since now they can boost their SP significantly using druids.

I would say light but getting mass haste through power of speed and getting destructive is also viable. Just don't expect crazy destructive power at first, the druids will be upgraded later.

so i'm guess that i'll stick with light coz i'ts better in countering dark, and do You know if antimagic dispels frenzy??

The only reason I would ever take preparation with sylvan is ancient treants in an extremely long game but even then the idea is to slaughter the opposing army within 1-2 rounds, not defending Ancient treants retaliating against all enemies before hit with avenger and luck would be really fun to try

Yes it does affect themselves too but I think it only stacks with magic resistance, not another aura.

most likely treants would get ignored by enemy stacks until they were the last stack standing.. and then, they would just get slaughtered by hero melee attacks.
Better to stick to the good old "i kill you in the first turn" abuse.

Very useful early creeping strategy is "playing tag" with the mosnters. Especially with this dudes who have low movement speed.
Take your all sprites or divide them to 2 stacks ( for ex. 5 in each ). Then, try to attack them once ( with spray attack you suffer no retailation) and then pass through them to the corner.
In spite of attacking your Elves and dancers Zombies/Peasants etc., etc. will pursue your sprites which are able to run them away in the another turn also...
You can make creeps pursue your sprites in spite of attacking shooters...
Also I have a question- does Battle Commander Skill work once only or maybe it reinforce you with Dancers each two weeks???
