Try to use Ancient Treants to slow down th enemy, and destroy it with ranged units.

I could care less about that but sending insulting hcms is still subject to CoC and punisheable. Take it easy.

Let me tell you about my first experience playing Sylvan cuz i'm just after vs. dungeon LAN match.
It was 2nd week, 2nd month.
I was afraid if I can win the final battle when I saw enemy hero stats that were over 20 spellpower, this same knowledge giving him about 350 mana. His hero was Yrwanna lvl 19 while I had Wyngaal lvl 21.
He had: 2 dragons, ~18 witches, ~17 hydras, 15 grim raiders, ~50 minotaurs, ~50 furies, ~50 assassins
first battle he caught me by surprise (I had over ~100 driads, ~50 arcane hunters and ~30 master druids) so I did him the biggest damage I could and I escaped leaving 30 remaining hunters.
Two turns later I got him with my new army.
I had: 6 dragons, 4 unicorns (lack of money ), ~30 arcane hunters, ~30 master druids and about 120 wind dancers

My 1st turn: My rush - he loses half of his army and have grim riders blocked by my dragons and unicorns
His 1st turn: deal some damage, not much - and cast a spell Implosion killing 4 my dragons
My 2nd turn: he loses all

After battle looking his artefacts I saw ones giving him plus 20% to initiative - didn't help him much.

So after this I'm pretty sure about skills for hero:
mine had:
exp attack
exp leadership
exp luck
better logisticks
I aimed for Retribution, giving up power of speed but unfortuately I didn't get it before end.
Same with light magic, master of blessings (bad luck )

This set was pretty good as you can see, some alternative would be also
destruction magic with imbue arrows and rain of arrows instead of light magic
Against dungeon Initiative seems to be the key factor.
I hope I did a good use of your advices

Really? Can you tell me where?

I do play TOTE occasionally yes - at Heroic difficulty ...




Zamrai: It's true that Sylvan can be quite powerful lategame, but don't be mistaken - Wyngaal (depending on your version of the game) can be quite overpowered, skewing the balance a lot. But by the middle of month 2, Sylvan should have the upper hand I think.

I don't know for sure but I think that in my version of TotE he has plus 0.5% to Initiative per every level (edit: or every 2 levels if this was fixed - must check it). At 20 level it gives army 10% bonus. It's not that much I think, there are a lot artefacts giving 10%, my enemy had plus 20%.

With sylvan even 10% initiative is too much I'm afraid. Add swift mind and an expert haste and the game is over before you can play.

So it looks I don't have any other choice like try to repeat this success playing Ossir for example. That's the way to find out the way ATB works without Wyngaal's boost.

I wouldn't bother. ATB always has this random value from 0 to 0.25 so theoretically all your units can start with 1/4 of the ATB bar filled. A hunter MAY play before a unit with 12 initiative but you will not see that too often.

True, but him with a a ring of speed and the staff is downright frightening, even after the 'nerf'.  Of course his bonus doesn't help much at first, and makes for very hard creeping then also.

I've checked this Wyngaal Initiative bonus - seems it has been fixed many many times from 0.5% even to 2.0% per level. Now, according to skillwhell v. 3.0 (my game version) it is 1% per level. All we know that this gives a boost only at the start of a battle, not all the battle time. It is useful lategame but I don't think it is overpowered now.

I would say, same or better results we can get having log->swift mind and casting mass haste at the start of the battle. Works longer, later we cast mass divine strenght and huh, that makes Sylvan pretty tough opponent even for a Dungeon with Empowered-super-mega-spells.

Wyngaal does NOT have an initiative bonus. It is in fact a one time ATB bonus that is superior to what initiative bonus would normally provide and it ensures your full lineup will act before the enemy has any chance to do a damn thing about it. Add aura of swiftness and windstrider boots and you may find yourself dead before you may even think of a counter.

Yes, I understand this is ATB start bonus not Initiative for creatures.
And with it, you're right, first turn belongs to Sylvan. But do you think this is overpowered?

Well, have you seen what sylvan is capable of when first turn belongs to them? Your best bet is to interrupt at least a couple of creatures and screw their frontal assault. With wyngaal, this is not possible. He is extremely strong.

Seems this hero is balancing on the border of being overpowered but that's difficult to say for sure.

I was wondering how would I play Dungeon against such an army. I would get swift mind and try to cast some meteor shower asap (if i have huge spellpower) or cast mass slow and other disturbing spells on their army. It seems the only chance to protect my lasting troops.

there is no way for you to cast any spell even if you'v got swift main..the dragons,spirits and dancers would act before any other creature and heroes.and remember slyvan always gets a good luck and morale bouns.
ah..yes, it is hard to say that wyngaal is overpowered..but he is hard to defeat
