Looks like Ubisoft especially likes Sylvan, letting so bugged hero exist for so long
It doesn't make me feel good. I will try to repeat that game with another hero: Ossir or Ylthin

Hope Ubi will fix Wyngaal soon because his starting skill: attack->tactic (pretty rare - 6%) makes him my favourite.
I don't want to be unfair, so sayonara Wyngaal - hope to see you after next patch

edit: To give him some bonus to creature's initative or movement instead of ATB would not be a bad idea.

Actually attack is rather common. I have gotten it in all my games so far, you just can't depend on getting it earlygame.

Several times, being level 20 I didn't get even light magic (8%) so I'm rather cautious here

Depends, if you focus on 2-3 skills top in the beginning you usually get what you want. The other common skills are 8% which is not much of a difference.

A quick question:
Sylvan vs. Inferno with Alastor (obviously full sorcery and dork magic). Ideas?

Obviously nothing is as dangerous in this matchup as the combination of imps' mana wiping and Alastor's Mass Confu. If these two are fired in the combat, the battle is surely lost.

I have a few ideas on how to possibly counter it. I'm considering taking the imps out as a priority, because without mana I will be a sure toast...
- have Swift Mind, Specialise in dark magic, Puppet Master the imps. This way they are heavily delayed and (correct me if I'm wrong) they should suck Alastor's mana instead of mine... that seems ownage, but puppet master is not even in Sylvan magic guild so...
- take Emerald dragons and attack->tactics + leadership->aura of swiftness and maybe boots of windstrider. The inferno will, one way or another, have two rows to deploy. Emeralds should blast the imps before they do anything.
- imps as favored enemy, take imbue arrows and maybe rain of arrows, take master of ice from destro magic and make sure you got Ice Bolt/Deep Freeze. Those 0.3 turns should push imps behind my arcanes... but if alastor has swift mind...
- take wyngaal. On 20th+ level the arcanes should easily go before the Imps and possibly Alastor (if he has swift mind). Then the hero should either mass dark magic spam (with Seal of Darkness possibly) to counter the alastor's spam... or Cleanse and protect with Light Magic.

What are your ideas/experiences?
Any reliable tactics in such a matchup?

Or simply get enlightenment and forget about playing first Seriously 333 familiars can drain 80+ mana and with enlightenment you can have double that or more. Or get intelligence just to be sure. Either way it does not matter, sylvan will not get to cast many times before the battle is over. I would not consider Wyngaal because he is seriously imbalanced, oh and don't take druid elders - I think Alastor's confusion also sucks units' mana.

Play with Anwen.

With her special U will be able to kill 3 enemy unit with a single blow. Even with mass confusion. Choose Imp, hell hound, pit lords or nightmares or succubus as you favoured enemy.
No magic needed. Maybe light magic with mass cleanse.

With Alastor against Sylvan, he's caught between a rock and a hard place.  If he's got Swift Mind(which by all rights he should), he's got few choices for his first spell, none of which are going to be great.

If he does Mass Confusion to take out the AAs and the druids, the dragons will rake him.  If he's got Staff of the Netherworld and does Mass Slow so his seducers can PM the dragons, the AAs will kill them.

Dragons most likely won't be right next to the AAs and druids, so casting Frenzy or PM on them won't take care of that devastating first shot of the AAs.

Dark Magic is best suited for a long battle, but Inferno vs. Sylvan will be anything but a long fight.  Entire stacks of troops will die at a time.

Regardless, I do think the matchup of Sylvan vs. Inferno favors Sylvan, even with an awesome Alastor.  Anwen and Gilraen might be your best options.

Very surprising - you are explicitly wrong Elvin. 333 familiars will drain 161/162 points of mana (it is exactly 1 mana for every two familiars, with 1 imp sucking 1 mana so I guess the rounding is up). If he took Vermin (which he is not stupid enough to do) he would drain 81. Anyways, he will not have 333 familiars by the time we meet, I would rather say it will be in 600's.
Sadly then, I will have to take familiars out. If I don't, I won't be able to do anything with my hero, not even cleanse the crap the enemy puts on my units.

Familiars steal 1 mana per 4 familiars.

Vermin siphon 1 mana per 8 vermin.

You're correct, of course. me=idiot

Nevertheless, as we are going to play on a big random map and we are going to meet very late, he is going to have hundreds and hundreds of familiars. Unless I have over 250 mana, he is going to suck it all from me. I will have to shoot those familiars anyway...

no worries, 60 mana should be enough as surely battle wont take longer than 2/3 turns. take enlightment and leadership + attack and all shoud be good. some favorite enemy's will help as well.
choose light magic and cast either cleanse or mass something,
and killing shouldn't be a problem.

@Nerull
No need to worry, if you suppose, that it will be longer match on bigger map, take Vinrael as starting hero. Enlightenment and his special provides fast leveling and very nice boost of stats + he starts with Intelligence, which means, that around level 20+ there will be no possibility how to drain all your mana. Try to head for Elven Luck + Aura of Swiftness + Retribution + Tactics to ensure that you will have first strike. Donīt forget to take Expert Avenger and make his key units favored enemy (Hell Chargers, Succubi and Demons should be somewhere around)! Battle will be short, and Avenger is for this purpose much better than Gating. Or you can head for Sylvan Ultimate, because it requires handy things - if you manage to get that, you are much closer to victory.
Skill tips: Head for Luck, take Resourcefullness asap, it will help you to build dragons earlier and reduce problems with wood. Be sure to take Elven Luck, 25% damage bonus is great. Leadership will empower your Retribution, Aura of Swiftness will help you to reach enemies in first turn (donīt forget to take Battle Commander, requierement for Retribution). Attack is obvious choice - Retribution and Tactics. Logistics are useful, as most its perks (Warpath speed-ups your creeping, Familiar Terrain should be used only if you donīt have AoS and Tactics and map is grassy). Fifth chosen skill should be Light Magic.
Creature tips: Dryads has better damage and can be ressurected via Treants (but has slightly lower initiative) - if they survive, try to hit as many stacks as possible and hope for lucky strike. Wind Dancers are devastating, same for Arcane Archers. Use High Druids (Alastor will drain their mana), boost your Spellpower and than you can use spell like Word of Light, Ressurection and Divine Vengance very effectively. Take Silver Unis if you want to increase possibility of resisting Alastorīs Confusion or Pristines in case you have Ressurection (you will ressurect two units at once). Savage Treants are better in this case, but not priority. Be sure that you take Crystal Dragons, they can hit many stacks with one attack - if it is lucky and against favoured enemies, stack will probably perish.

I hope some of these basic hints will help you.

The imps are not there to drain you dry.  They're going to be there to tip the balance of mana heavily in his favor for once he starts counterspelling you.

If you do something like a cleanse, might as well make it a mass cleanse just so you get the ATB bonus.
