my favorite is gating (with urgash call ofcourse) but i think necromancy is the best

I choose Gating because its an additional back up to your army and drives the enemy crazy if your hero is blessed with the Call of Urgash! Necromancy is really higly estimated, but i think i've had enough of this skill (all over the last versions of homm. The Howl of Terror is a MUST for your necro-hero.I really like artificery. It can boost a creature's attributes and Arcane Omniscience may just be the best ability ever! Elemental chain is also underestimated. If you just pay attention to your creature's element (it changes after every attack) you can actually do MASSIVE bonus damage, supported by the Rage of the Elements! Training is really expensive and the Unstoppable Charge is so dull. There is Avenger too...oh well...i dont really get it, but Nature's Luck ROCKS!As for the new racials, rune magic is very handy, though casting those runes may eventually turn you resourceless and the Absolute protection skill provides you with...absolute protection indeed! Finally, Rage Blood looks very useful, as it sucks many of the anticipated damage points and gives a considerable bonus to creatures' attack. Absolute Rage only makes things easier!

Yes, necromancy was changed with 2.1 patch(HOF) and for TotE. In raise skeleton archer ability's place you now have mark of the necromancer(the old spirit link that used to be a dark magic ability). Also you can raise each and every kind of undead depending on what you attack, however doing so spends your dark energy. Dark energy is replenished every week and increases with necromancy skill and hero level.

Vote for Avenger.

Reason: applicable to all other factions. A ranger can lead a foreign army with full racial ability, no other hero can.

I really think the avenger skill is important for fighting other heroes, especially in multiplayer when you have alot of heroes from the same faction sieging your castle:ips:. This is because once you fend them off once you can choose there most effective units to put on your revenge list and do double damage to those units.(Especialy effective if you have expert avenger).

Artifcer RULES! Because you can give artifacts to your units to enhance there statistics!(Especially efective if you have expert artifcer). You have to build the Arcane Forge and it costs 2000 gold and one of every other resorce. This is the ONLY castle with a tier 7upgraded (Titan) with long range! My favorite are the Racasha Raja.An artifact that you sould give to an Ark Mage is one with armor crusing because of there fire ball spell. If your fighting Minitour Gaurds you should send out Steel Golem because of there unlimated retaliation and the Minitour Gaurds double attack and every time they attack the Steel Golem retaliate!

My favorite is Artificier. Favorite as in the "unique" and interesting, not the strongest.

It's the most interesting for me (Necromancy is close) because it gives you so many choices and possibilities, if you have the necessary resources, that is.

I think you are right about necromacy. I prefer to get the skelly archer ability so i can rebirth ranged units. I like artificer to. It is very cool.

Necromancy: Nothing really new or unique, but fits Necro a lt. With the introduction of dark energy this became one of my favorite racials by far! 6/10

Training: This skill is so boring. You dont really care about the improved retailation and I just rarely use this.
The only time I use this is when I upgrade Peasants into Archers.
Plus its a bit expensive too. 2/10

Avenger: Even more boring then training, the Avenger racial skill is. Nothing unique at all - you do some extra damage to a chosen enemy... Sylvan could have got lots of cooler racials and Avenger doesnt even fit them. I would have loved to see Sylvan with some kind of racial skill that modifies the terrain and your mines etc.
It could be named "Enchantments of Nature" or something. 1/10

Gating: This skill is really nice I think but not so interesting. I think its good in any parts of the game (early game, end game etc).
I think its just a little bit overpowered though.
Nothing really super bad or super good here. Its moderate. 6/10.

Artificer: Artificer is good but waaaayyyy expensive, atleast for the most time in the game. I think its boring too, maybe because I dont like Academy very much.
I dont use this a lot. I think that the Wizards of the Silver Cities could have gained something more interesting, like the "Precise Magic" in the Altar of Wishes sub-forum or like "Spellcrafting", where you make your own spells.

Rune Magic: Now this is a skill I like! I dare to say thats its even a bit overpowered.
Runes are fun, powerful and cool. Not much to say this, but it makes the rather uninteresting "6 dwarves, 1 more dragon" faction a lot better and funnier to play.

Blood Rage: Clearly copied from Warcraft, where the Orcs once were corrupted by the Demons through drinking their blood among other things - Blood Rage is still fun.
Blood Rage is a very useful skill and you get some nice bonuses from it. Its fun to see your units grow into killing machines and slaugther everything! Perhaps I like Blood Rage so much because Stronghold is one of my favorite factions.
I dont care so much about that its obviously inspired from Warcraft because its still a cool and nice skill.

Elemental Chains: To be honest, I was getting huge headaces from this skill when the game came out and I still have not mastered it to 100%.
The skill descriptions are misleading from a 13-year old from sweden. I dont understand, does it ignore spell immunties (like "75% magic resistance") or what?
From what I have seen, the sub-skills of this racial skill seem more useful then the actual skill.
Plus its sometimes annoying to have to check the elements stuff all the time, but still the Elemental Chains skill is very unique and a very fun skill.
Although a bit complex, I still like it a lot. 6/10

1. Blood Rage wins because its simply a very fun and powerful skill!

2. Rune Mage came second, because it really makes an normally uninteresting faction very fun to play.

3. Gating, Necromancy AND Elemental chains shares this place. Gating because its a bit useful and fits the demon theme, Necromancy because its just a lot fun and fits the Necros and Elemental Chains because it sometimes requiers some thinking but its still fun to see your spells causing their own apocalypse on the battlefield.

4. Artificer came fourth place because I rarely use it, but when I do then it improves your army a lot.

5. Training came almost on the last place because its expensive and again, I rarely use it. However since I do use a little bit more often then Avenger, and like it a little bit more, it won over Avenger with one single little point.

6. Avenger came last because it doesnt fit the elves, its boring, it could have been replaced with something much better, I rarely use it and its not unique in any way.

Well, since it says the fav and not the most faction representative or the most powerfull, I voted Artificer. I seemes like the most interesting to me, if I'm not counting the HoF and TotE exps.

Atleast Artificer is AWSOME!


Artificer realy helps me.

It's good that my second favorite (Necromecy) is on the new one.

This thread has definitely two parts, first part pre-ToF (whereby necromancy is immensely powerful and many people think academy is the weakest) and second part post-ToF.

I voted for training, simply because it has the ability to bypass the weekly growth of haven towns, so for a specific week, if you train 5 peasants all the way to cavaliers, it is like +9 growth instead of +4 growth for cavaliers.  With expert counterstrike and expert trainer, training is not a lot more expensive, with ultimate counterstrike and expert trainer it becones CHEAPER to train troops instead!

What can the increased stacks do?  Do more dmage, both in attack and in retaliation (from the counterstrike ability), so who says counterstrike is useless?

I think artifacter is the coolest and best racial ability, (perhaps because I like Academy the most)
In late games your hero usually has 30+ knowledge. And with 30 knowledge (as an example) you can get these following bonuses:

- -3 to enemy defence on each hit (escpecially effective for the Acrh Mages "magic attack" ability)

- +8 to creature attack or defence (which is simply great)

- +4 to creature luck or morale (which is also simply great, and you don't have to "waste" a slot for the secondary skill luck or leadership (unless it's the abilities you're aiming for))

- +30% to initiative () (do I need to say anything? Combined with the Ring of Speed and/or mass haste it makes your army blazing fast!)

- +7 hit points (very important for the fragile gremlins, mages and genies)

- +3 to speed (makes, escpecially, your golems and rakshasas more effective)

- A +76% reduction to spell damage

Three of these combined (with Expert Artifacter) makes a good boost, and with a couple of level 3 trinkets, orbs, amulets or badges your Academy force will become far more powerfull

I surprised to hear so many like it. I do enjoy its benefits and the customization it brings but it's a pain to make mini arties and having to return to town to use it.
