Heroes V Editor - The Wish List

What do you think about the H5 editor?

What features would you like to see back?

What options would you like to see improved?

What options would you like to see introduced for the first time?

WISH LIST (I'll keep it updated! )

1) random map generator (coming with the expansion)

2) NPC scripts (RPG style)

3) random dwellings that adapt to the terrain type

4) the ability to ban spells and units

5) scripted AI behaviour, e.g. placing a computer hero in the game and controling exactly where and when he moves and what he does

6) "map mods" (the changes would ONLY work in those maps)

7) the option to customize the appearance and/or properties of heroes, towns, creatures, skills and spells

8) drop-down menus for scripts

9) user-friendly interface (enable undo, select, unselect and mouse-clicking)

10) cutscenes

11) all creature dwellings

12) more different quest huts

13) ability to turn off the animations

14) enable saving the map while the game is running (for testing purposes)

15) dead knight and phoenix dwellings

Well if they combine H3 and H4 editor with elements of the NWN's editor then it should be an excellent product, the one thing I like about NWN's editor was the unique questing features for NPC's that you can translate for H5 use in Campaign based maps with the objective of creating a campaign feel with a whole new set of maps thus making it a living world instead of just a bunch of squares plots lying in 3d digital make believe.

What are the "unique questing features for NPCs" in NWN like? Could you give me an example?

Questing features that you can write your own scripts for through the talk dialogs, thus the 'NPC' can send you to go do the quest and report back when done. pretty simple and basic, then you can expand on that idea from map to map

Sounds good.

Actually, it is possible in WoG with flags and variables, but the scripting language is not user-friendly.

It could also be done with the H4 editor, but the result wouldn't be as good as the idea. The last Equilibris update will introduce quest huts that look like creatures, which make ideal NPCs.

Edit: Anyway, I've edited the first post to include your wish. Here's hoping we can make a list...!

I would like to see hmm let me think..

Dwellings that adapt to the town area (no brainer)

The ability to ban spells and units from the game on the map.

Very controllable scripting, like you can maybe place a computer hero in the game and control exactly where he will run and when, and what he will do. It will be fun

Judging by single scenarios in v. 1.0, it seems scripted AI will be included in the editor.

Latest news:

The editor will be released "no later than August", and RMG after that.

By the way, has anyone noticed any quest huts? The AoH page shows various objects, but I think none of them is actually a quest hut.

Yes there is a quest hut but the scripting is not working properly, example is in the warlock campaigns map 2 when you go to the hut talk with malsasa and then get the quest to build tear of asha, finish it and you "supposed" to go back to the hut to complete it.

No later than August, whatever that means.

EDIT: Here's the official information from Fabrice, released today in the interview for AoH:

Quote:
The third patch, due in the second part of July, will propose the map editor. We’ll hand it over to a few selected testers in about a week, in order to fine-tune it. The map editor is of course a critical tool for the game interest in the long run, and we felt it was better to work on it a bit longer after the release.
Combined with the map editor, or with a further patch will be added the capacity to link missions together as in the Heroes 5 campaigns

Yes, since the cutscenes were made with in-game graphics and used not only for campaigns but also for single scenarios.

Why? It is an essential feature for creating singleplayer scenarios.

Scripts are obviously going to be included anyway.

As long as they can write some guide to making scripts. And they probaly won't.
It was the hard scripts who keept me from making Heroes 4 scenarios.

You didn't need scripts to make a H4 map.

I'd like to be able to create new skills and abilities, and add new pictures in for the skills and abilities.  Also, to be able to create new heroes, with new pictures.  New creatures, with appropriate pictures...but...new 3D models would be difficult for me to do.  For new heroes I would just use pre-existing hero models...maybe we could substitute monster models for hero models?

New spells, although 3D spell effects would again be difficult for me.  New towns, and even new races would be cool.  Although, I don't know if you'll be able to basically mod the game with the campaign editor...somehow I doubt it.  But, it would be cool if you could change a ton of stuff with it.
