And "Map Mods" were also in my mind. Inserting own pics/stats to the map/mod. Like if i wanna add new creature stats the changes would ONLY work in that map. (Don't need delete or remome map/mod pack all the time)
There is a similar feature in WoG, the unofficial mod for Heroes 3. Mapmakers are able to choose the set of pre-done options, save them in a separate file and submit the file with their maps. The options are automatically loaded when players choose the maps to play.

It seems mapmakers will be able to combine their maps with mini-mods. When you create a map with the editor, make an additional .pak file with specific changes for your map only. When the player has finished your scenario, he could simply move or delete your mini-mod from the data folder.

Mini-mods could contain anything you want - from stats tweaking to graphic makeover. I guess it depends on your modding skills (the ability to read the files and edit them).

Some scripting is must. H4 map editor was way ahead of H3 editor and i hope we can see improvements in this area again.

Agreed.

Just a thought - do any of you know, whether anyone have proposed any of the following ideas to the developers:

- Creature Editor: The creature moditor would allow you to modify your creatures and make new creatures for your own gaming purposes. This would work by selecting some starting package defining the graphics, and then you could define Stats and Abilities and possibly also cost and growth rate - or the latter could be calculated automatically based on creature power and a set of average formulas for the different levels.

- Town Editor: In line with the above, the Town Editor would allow you to change buildings in the town, creatures belonging to buildings, names on buildings etc.

- Spell Editor: The Spell Editor would allow you to define your own spells for the game. Editable properties might be effect - damage or abilities similar to creature abilities for instance (thus: Defining spells to provide No Retaliation, Life Drain or Fly ability would be possible) - and also area of effect and duration.

These would allow a huge range of variation to the game, and make the Modding work much easier, obviously (and allow features not currently possible with Modding).

Thank you, Ubi people!

Yahoo!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I just had to do that.  We can finally make our own HMM campaigns and characters.  Rejoice, fans of Heroes of Might and Magic!

Someone throw a kitchen sink at me before I start singing.

You misunderstood - there is no map editor yet, we are just making a wish list.

It seems we'll have to wait one more month.

(Recovers from the sink hitting him)

Still, at least we are getting one. The map editor is part of the HOMM series.  To not have one would be an insult to both new and old fans alike.

Nival has confirmed that the editor will ship with the 1.3 patch (hopefully next month).

Thanks to Sikon of CH for the update.

update

Judging by today's Picture of the Day at Celestial Heavens, not only is the editor ready but it also enables mapmakers to customize heroes and units like NEVER before. This is excellent news!

Meanwhile, here's another cool screenshot posted by Mantra in our Temple of Ashan forum:

Vlaad, I cannot find this picture you refer to. Can you not either send a direct link to the image location, or post the image here please?

Ururam Tururam, a great Polish mapmaker, is one of the editor beta testers. Here's a preview of upcoming "Free Masons", probably the first fan-made map for Heroes 5.

Thanks to fiur for the news.
