it has always been so... except of heroes 4 of course ^_^.

heroes III A.I. was WAY better. It could even do tricks like dimenshiondooring to a tiny island to run away from your stronger hero.  It wasn't brilliant, yes, but it was decent enough not to whine about it.

The h5 one sucks, but nival seems to listen to community's requests. Just look: they say new spells will appear, training will get balanced, the caravans made a comeback.. etc. So, perhaps in a second expansion, the A.I. will get reworked. Maybe.

I'm crossing my fingers, but if I hold my breath, I might need medical attention soon.

Not picking up resources allows other people (the human player) to do so. I may have a ton of ore, but you bet your bottom dollar I'll pick it up anyway...you can always trade it.

It is simple - they are traitors or mercenary heroes. They take gold to serve you

After playing the game for a while now the answer to this main question is very easy:

The most dissapointing feature of HOMMV is the endless sea of bugs !!!

One of two things that I didn't like about Heroes III and Heroes V was that why would a hero be able to learn only six type of skill. the other one is that you cannot go beyond level 40 in the game and once you pass 30 the experiance required shy rockets.

Yeah, I think the AI sucks in combat, too. It sometimes explodes with the Horned Overseers around his own troops! (i think this happens when he doesn't know what to do)

I'm awestruck at ppl saying the graphics of H5 sucks and isn't as good as earlier HoMMs.  IMO, Nival's graphics is awesome.  I don't care if it copies WoW.  It ain't my IPs being violated; awesome is awesome to the player.

And... earlier HoMMs with good art??  What are you smoking?  HoMMs were always characterized by homely art + great game concept.  Now Nival gave the art aspect professional polish.

The thing I'm disappointed with... It was the loss of beta creatures, but modding and the new alternates have taken care of that.  Now I'm lamenting the loss of the beta Elemental Chains that I've never had the pleasure to experience, and it seems cannot be modded in.

I'm surprised that the beta EC was axed because it was "too complex."  Has Nival/Ubisoft ever played Final Fantasy Tactics?  Use the Calculator class and experience what "complex" means.  And this is on a console game!  Newsflash, TBS gamers eat this kinda thing up.  And for the kids who CBA'ed, well they don't have to use it.  Ingenuity axed for the sake of accessibility to kindergarteners.  Oh how I love it.

Beta elemental chains was pretty overpowered from what i heard of it as well. Wasnt it double damage for every chain you built through just a few attacks?

It wasn't very easy to build a chain, though.  You have to attack the same creature multiple times before it gets to take its turn, and assuming it's still alive and hasn't yet moved, *then* you use a creature of opposite element to "ignite" the chain.  You'd prolly be casting lots of preparatory spells (slow and haste, etc) just so that you can make a chain before the enemy moves.  It takes a lot of preparation and strategy to pull off.  A demanding process with a high theoretical damage potential.

Not really. Take one of the biggest threats in the game now, The cyclops. It has very low initiative. with 7 stacks it would be simple to build a chain. On the other hand its the most weak skill ever against syvlan for example.
Same goes for the titans i think.
Shame its gone but it makes sense in some ways.Even when understood at its best and peak it could be a rather randomly occuring skill.

There should be more factions...that's what I voted for...lack of towns and especially heroes...and there's also a very low number of maps for the Custom game...s*cks

Mostly the fact that each faction is more or less forced to go magic or might. Yet, most heroes specialize in creatures, which is more useful for might factions. Seems a bit flawed thinking, and I hope the next game will bring two classes per faction back (and, where applicable, a different or altered racial skill).

Odd.  I thought a gajillion perks meant that options were opened.

What I'm most diasppointed about the game has to do with MultiPlayer.  And I hope they fix this nasty bug in a patch.

It's the one where when you're into the 2nd or 3rd month on an XL map against your buddy and the comp just decides to freeze up.  You can still move your mouse.  But you notice things like the windmills having completely stopped.  Reloading doesn't work.  Having your buddy load the save doesn't work. Going back a few autosaves doesn't work.

Also on random maps Military Posts still only give level 4 creatures in home territory.  I've only seen deviation on XL and larger maps.

One feature I wish for is an AI jumpstart, where the host has the ability to force the comp finish its turn.

i feel that some skills are so nessescary that you have to get them to win...

also i agree
Homm v's hotseat isn't very accomadating...
the game moves slow because of fancy anims and there are only 6 players. not only that but the comp takes too long...
well said gootch

i beleive this game has no ai.
It has a five year olds brain hardcoded into the ai files.

I really want the distinct Might & Magic classes back. It needs to be Heroes of Might and Magic, not Heroes Who Have A Might/Magic Mix.

Also, I want more factions as well. Give me the 9 back and I'll be satisfied. Ideally, the swamp town back, but having a balanced Conflux would be cool too.

Some annoying things in H5, although game is good:
-eat so much RAM
-no dialogue boxes when you vist objects like mines, just an icon
-one hero class per castle
-I hat this strange circle of light under your hero when you click him
-needs less thinking than Homm3 WoG, even less than sod I think
-no normal date displaying
-boring animation in main menu
EDIT: I forgotten most annoying thing: soundtrack. In H3 was great, in H4 was great, in H5 sucks. I even cant call it music because you hear one sound per 15 sec which lasts for 1 sec, and it sounds more like ambient effects, not music. Like in some RTS, for example warcraft 3 : good game, no music, just ambient sounds.

Don't know about wog but it sure takes more thinking than sod. Trust me, the game is a lot more complex than it looks and that won't show unless you play a good human opponent.
About main menu you could download a new one there were some options in the modding section. Flyby town videos and menu from HoF or original if you feel like changing it.
I rather like the music but that can change as well, just rename custom mp3 to match the ones from H5 and convert them to oog.
