I don't know. They could bring the Hidoeus Mask back. Also some other things. The tax linen was a screwy thing. I once fought through a pile of soldiers thinking it was the scroll of knowladge, but it turned up to be that screwy thing. Well, yes they could balance it by bringing some cursed artifacts back.

Good Idea

Cursed artifacts make it more intresting.  Make it so you could not trade them that would change the game a lot.

to realy make cursed artifcacts hard

have every cursed artifact mirror pic and all with every relic artifact, accept they both do opposite things, and have all cursed artifacts equip themselves even if you already have the spot full, and make them nontradable,
this would be REALY sinister, but there should be a shop on the map that would... for a price... uncurse the artifacts, allowing it to be destroyed,
so items like that helmet +10 knowledge -2 spell power, would be -10 knowledge +2 spell power, unremovable, auto equip,
they should also have names that are an adaquit counter to the original relic that is copies,

It takes me quite a moment to go through all the messages. Some very cool ideas. I especially like artifact editor, limitation on artifacts and cursed artifacts. I personally think most of the artifacts mentioned are very powerful or sometimes TOO POWERFUL.

How about a "double-edged" artifacts:

e.g. Ring of Dark Ritual: increase necromancy skill by 30%, but will decrease both your luck and morale by 3.

    The Favour of God of Wind: increase your movement on land and sea by 5 but you have to pay 500 per day to contribute to the God of Wind....(to bribe Him)

     The Ring of Charity: you have to pay 1000 (or maybe 500) per day for charity purpose no matter you equip this artifact or not. In return, people like you and so your morale will be maximum and the monster will be more willing to join you (as if you have expert Diplomacy).

There are even more I can think about, I just want to mention one point, make the artifacts both have merit and demerits and then you got to make a choice.......

Not artifacts but related to artifacts

Just some ideas:

How about a new spell (level 4) or maybe new skill called
"Steal" (or "thief" or whatever you like). For basic level, you have 10% chance to "steal" one random artifact from your opponent hero during a battle. Advance 20%, expert 30%, (master level, if any, 50%).

The word "random" means that you can even steal Shackle of War from him and then run away...........

Think about the face of your opponent when you steal his "Cloak of Invisibility" or "Cloak of Time" and say bye-bye to him......

I like the idea of an artifact designed to increase a spell, such earthquake nechlace to increase the damage of that spell. You could have one that lets you cast 2 or 3 at once, like bless and shield.

Spell artifacts

It could work. Then you would not need fire magic, water magic, air magic and earth magic secondary skills because artifacts would repleace them.

The Idea of the Ring of the Dark Ritual is not great. Undead don't have morale so only thing it would do is decrease luck. I doesn't make sence to do something like that.

Idea.

I think that some artifacts combine and make a new artifact, the spaces once taken by the "segment" artifacts should be freed for other artifacts (In SOD the spaces are still taken), and each combination relic should be for a different space so that a hero could get the whole "set" of combination relics and there should be an evil set of combination relics and a good set and a neutral one.

I agree with Mystery here that the combined artifacts shouldn't take the space of the artifacts that melted into the superionr artifact. I like the other ideas too, but the one with stealing artifact is not good. And you cannot steal the shackles and run away....

Agree!

Yes they should not take up space of others. Now about the evil artifact, I think that there should be some artifacts that only evil or good or neutrals could posses. Like holy grail. Only good heroes can posses this. Or the Turned cross. Only evil heroes could posses this. And for the neutrals , I can't think of anything.

The morale effect does exist if you mix up undead with live creatures. (that's the point for morale deduction for Ring of Dark Ritual, as dark ritual may scare you living troopsbut not undead) Well, maybe you can stick to use only undead in the whole game.

i have another idea about cursed items. someone mentioned a place to un-curse these items and distroy them. How about arts that really bog you down, but when un cursed they turn out to be really super cool arts.

There it could be like a 'rock' that kinda laches onto you, and you go to uncurse it and it reveals an art?

The problem with arts

The problem with artifacts is that they're too broad in power and there are only certain things you can increase through use of an artifact. If you want more arts, then don't ask for things that are more powerful (hell they're so rare that if anyone picks one up, the other is given an instant disadvantage), ask for creature specific artifacts. Like a longbow which increases the ranged attack of elves/grand elves by +2 (these creatures only! It cannot be used by archers). So therefore, the artifact is useless to other players (but they'd pick it up anyway just to stop their opponent getting an advantage). By doing this, the number and diversity of artifacts can jump by a thousand.

So that would effectively mean that there would probably be a few useless things lying around (what good is a longbow if there is only castle/inferno types on the map?). Artifacts are not really useless if you could sell them (a good way to get money) to a marketplace or even your opponent...

By the way, I'm firmly against relics. They turn heroes into gods don't they?

but heroes are what become gods,

i always play strict necro, so that dark ritual ring wouldn't do any bad to me,
there should be an artifact "chariot" which doubles your land movement,
um... i think that there  is a point in that post, about having more specific arts, but for that to happen you would need arts for about every creature in the game, thats what happend when they did the upgrade thing, they found that for any upgrades to be equil, everything had to have an upgrade, so before you suggest a "elven bow" think, will this lead to a "skelleton warrior scimitar?"

How about player can make their own artifacts during games. They can choose the increment in att/def/pow/know and any other special feature of the artifacts and ..... can name the artifacts they make

Well, the making of artifacts costs you money, you have to pay bugs to satisfy your desire. Besides, you have to designate one hero in making artifacts and more powerful artifacts take longer time to make. During production of artifacts, the hero cannot do anything but only stayed in a town, When attacked, the production process stops and the hero has to defend the town. Besides, you can only make one artifact at a time

To be honest...

I dont think there should be all powerfull artifacts and an all powerfull artifact that negates the all powerfull artifact.. (broken record) Makes game very unfair unless those artifacts are specifically placed on the map so it ballances out.. I think arts that reveal map to ur opponents and urself is good idea along with art that makes a massive cloak of darkness maybe a moving cloak of darkness . Super power arts may be fun but they can also be a drag . But if ur gonna negate arts and skills why not follow along with the concept of the recanters so magic users are limited to levels 1 and 2 spells and for the might heros have a Strenght Eliminater type thing so that the might hero becomes less effictive maybe att and defense go down by 50% or specialty heroes like Hack or whoever its gonna be for Hmm4 cant have the bonus apply to them anymore.
Just some thoughts.

I think some artifacts can only be used by certain heroes and certain spells could only be cast by certain heroes. The game is Might and Magic, it should have certain Mighty Heroes against certain Magic Heroes.

There should be an artifact editor, but there shouldn't be artifact making during the game because an artifact is something that is ancient and not made in a month by some hero.
