For duel mission 1, you just wait when other players killing each other. Watch out, there are other AI's attack you. After then, you just attack the last standing hero. Now, you will only have to take the ring!!!

So I'm using version 1.0 of Heroes V.  No expansion yet. I have read in this thread that Empowered spells don't work with Warlock's Luck, and I've also seen that it does.  So my question is with my version do they work together or not?

Probably not. H5 is not worth playing in 1.0 anyway, horribly imbalanced with no shortage of bugs and missing/mispelled texts. I'd suggest that you patch it first, patch order is 1.4, 1.4.1, 1.5 and 1.6 if memory serves. Changes from 1.1-1.3 were included in 1.4 I think but it should be in the FAQ masterpost if you want to check for sure.

Thanks Elvin! I got this game when it first came out, and got stuck on Haven campaign where you have to send Godric to Nicolai.  I didn't realize that Nicolai was supposed to fight the final army.  So I kept recruiting army until I could take them. Completely turned me off of the game, until recently when my son started getting interested in playing it.  On an unrelated note, does anyone know how to make the ToTE game not need the disc, I want to play local MP with my son.

Many years later, and I come upon the problems so many had before me.

Playing 1.5 on Heroic:

Raelag Build:

- Logistics
- Destructive Magic
- Enlightenment
- Sorcery (more on this later)

1.  Mission 1 was a bit painful.  You can't guarantee minotaur clears with only blood furies because with 4 of them + unlucky morale you can get cornered.  I wound up creeping pretty slowly, but IMO as long as you ASAP deep hydras you can clear enough with them to build up some troops + get level 4 spells.  A little bit of AI manipulation at the end means you can afford to eat losses to get the coliseum, level cap, and carry-over spells.  This wasn't pretty, but I got those 3 things so as good a position as any I'd say, at least at this point.

2.  Mission 2 was a cinch, even on heroic.  Just rush straight out, get some middle control, and conquer towns.  I guess expert logs helped quite a bit in this map.  I got both Raelag + Shadya up to 18, Shadya has enlightenment (witch hut!) and sorcery.  One "messenger" got through but Shadya mopped that army with reinforcements no problems.  I picked up her level 5 dark spells from the utopia of course, and getting all of destructive for her Raelag is trivial with so many maxed dungeon guilds.  This mission becomes easy quickly if you abuse summon creatures + mana well in the center...despite enemy town count it does nothing for them if they can't consolidate their forces or even attack simultaneously.

Now here's the problem: Raelag was only offered empowered spells once, and I took logistics back then on map 1.  To this point, he was *never* offered sorcery!  That's going to make the next one interesting...

3.  This is my current mission.  I tried it twice, capturing the first town.  With a paltry 440 damage on meteor shower despite Raelag being maxed in levels + stat buildings on previous maps AND lacking sorcery, I came into this map woefully unprepared.  3-4 same-army type heroes with better spells rush you in week 1 or very early week 2 in tandem on heroic, making the standard way to play this map *completely impossible* on heroic if you don't have empowered spells + sorcery or similarly powerful summoning magic.

Of course, that's just if you play it the standard way.  After 2 horrid failures and reading this site, I wasn't feeling particularly good about my chances.  Not willing to give up quite yet (though close), I again started this map from the 1st turn with my mighty 440 damage meteor shower on heroic .

The difference this time is I ignored the "first" town, running straight north with both heroes.  I clipped the hero defending that town (taking heavy losses), captured the town, bought a hydra den + 3 hydras, and just kept running.  Raelag led, Shadya followed.  The hero near the 1st town chased, but was clearly slower and would occasionally stop to flag mines or pick stuff up.  I booked it straight up, cornering myself in the top town.  I was able to pick up a new week's worth of troops, but up came Lethos after taking the forces from the 1st hero and chasing me.  I let him retake the town, hiding Shadya in the nook to the south.  I then ran Expert Logistics Raelag straight past Lethos...who just stayed put.

Nobody came for Shadya, and I had 7 days to capture a new town.  I captured the top middle one, and for some reason Lethos didn't chase me (maybe because I had no towns).  I wound up grabbing another town to the west + taking dragon utopia while the demon hero spawned wandered around aimlessly for a long time, apparently confused by me going from 2 to 0 towns.  It's at this point that Lethos moved out to attack me with a massive force.  However, Shadya was still hiding in that nook, so she summoned creatures and retook the town after he left .

Raelag managed to actually get empowered spells + sorcery on this map from all the trolling about stealing chests, enemies, and other goodies probably intended for the AI.  The AI script heroes were rather flagrantly thrown off by running around, and so I never fought more than 1 at a time, and I just ran from heroes that looked too strong for me to kill.  The end result is that the first demon army lost an attack on Shadya in the NORTHEAST town well after week 3, I played circle-jerk with a MASSIVE army Lethos passed to someone else for over a month, and eventually I wound up massing enough forces + killing enough scattered AI heroes to overcome them.  As a bonus, this broke the demon AI script and they have the 2nd army sitting at their spawn, but by that point I could have killed it easily anyway.  With 5 towns and no large AI force left alive I'm in control of the map...and now my empowered meteor showers at least do over 1k .

TLDR: If mission 3 is giving you too much grief, rush north (more AI heroes come from west initially) and just play some run-between-towns games to scatter them.  The hardest part about this map is getting tag-teamed by 4+ heroes at the start.  Don't let the AI do it .

Edit:

I did indeed complete mission 3 easily after the hit-and run strategy above.  The scripted AI heroes just don't do a good job of chasing you and retaking towns other than in the southeast of the map to force the issue, and there's so much gold lying around that you have plenty of time to keep grabbing towns from weaklings + buying creatures.

Mission 4 was so easy by comparison it was silly.  My Raelag build from above was pretty much complete by this point and empowered destructive spells + stat ups + his initiative crush allowed me to simply nuke the demon army to death with starting forces.  After that there was plenty of time to wander around collecting stat buildings and killing enough to gain 2 more levels.

Mission 5 was interesting.  I had the benefit of reading knowing that going top route was possible.  The idea was to run straight west, burn 1st inferno town ASAP (you can also quickly click into the town to learn spells if you're fast enough after the battle ends, but the AI will have recruited all the creatures and you don't have time to wait for more).  After that, follow the road, take the easy garrison on the far west, and loop down + around (ignore the legion of imp garrison lol) to take 2nd inferno town.  I had both by the end of week 1 with minimal losses, crushing garrisons + weak demon heroes with Raelag.

The only hard part of this mission was the garrison with 400 fire elementals blocking the way to grawl.  To beat this garrison, I had to let Shadya catch up w/o logistics, which took almost the full first week.  Thankfully this otherwise difficult garrison has 0 imps.  I sent her into the battle with the full 40 deep hydras and a couple junk block units.  Strategy:

- Puppet Cerberus (can get puppet master guaranteed in maps 2 and 3; utopias repopulate)
- Mass slow
- Mass confusion (no succubi nonsense)
- Nuke down stacks while blocking hydras from devils with a couple scouts/minotaurs

Once I killed everything but the Cerberus, I was down to maybe 8 deep hydras (could have executed the battle better), however I left them puppeted a bit and attacked/nuked them down to about 5 dogs.  I then spammed "w" and waited a good 5 minutes mashing it.  I had run out of mana, so I couldn't keep them puppeted, but because they don't cause retaliation and were only doing about 13 damage, the hydras could out-heal them.  At the end of this difficult garrison I lost only a couple assassin/minotaurs as the deep hydra ability eventually will res them all .

With almost my entire complement of starting troops + a well-built Raelag, Grawl with no reinforcements from other towns was a joke in week 2.  After that it was just a matter of collecting stat buildings and squishing as much as possible with Raelag before bothering to end the campaign.  With 3 gold mines, multiple sulfur mines, and tons of other mines + trading post on the map as well as multiple dwellings with dragons + hill fort in underground, if you really wanted to on this map you could get as many dragons + dungeon troops as you like after rushing away AI towns and ironically kill all the extra garrisons with #s for xp, but I didn't bother since I had practically everything except the minimal stats from lvl up anyway.

If you rush this map properly and have Puppet Master on Shadya, you don't need instant travel OR light magic to cheese the map ASAP via the top route !

Hi!

I have just been having some problems on map 3 recently as well.
I am playing on Hard with the settings of ToE 3.1 using a mod.

Here's my build on Raelag:
Advanced Occultism + Dark Rite + Empowered spells
Basic Def + Vitality
Expert Destructive
Expert Summoning
Advanced Logistics + PF + Scouting
Expert Sorcery + Mana Regen
Primary stats are 5-5-14-8, Shadya is 6-6-10-10.

Problem are the first 7-10 days when I get about 4 very strong Warlock heroes thrown at me with army of ~100 Assassins, 60-70 Mino Kings and ~60 Blood Furies and occasionally 1-2 weeks growth of unupgraded higher level troops.

On Hard, I was able to use pretty much the same tactics as described above, running around with Raelag, capturing relatively badly guarded towns and picking up reinforcements faster than my opponent.

The main issue is, I just can't seem to do it on Heroic. I somehow manage to crush the two guys guarding the two southeastern towns, Kythra and Sinitar but usually all I have left in the end are about 30 Stalkers and 10 Minos as with this build I do not have anything for troop preservation, every starting troop on Raelag ofc.

Not to mention, my SP is nowhere near enough to wipe out the mentioned armies with meteor and fireball, neither is my mana. I usually leave things to the Phoenix but it is slow compared to Dungeon and with 750-780 HP, in the end usually gets killed by the massive armies they bring.

Also, Blue attacks simultaneously, with Eruina coming from the west and freaking poisoner Lethos from the northern portal, so I get cornered anyway, not to mention Red rushing in from south.

I restarted the campaign and started thinking what could I do and here are the options I've come up with.

First of all, the problem is in the first two weeks which is normally creeping period so focus on this area.

A, War machines build. Seemingly not a bad idea, as Attack also has a high chance. But at level 18 a Ballista won't kick in that much, even when Triple Flaming and First Aid is no match for a Destructive Warlock.

B, Destructive build with related support (Learning, Sorcery, maybe Luck). Seems better but it doesn't help the fact that I'm losing troops ridiculously fast.

C, Summoning and support. Same as above and even worse because the Phoenix is slow and troop preservation is still non-existing except Animate dead which is useless long-term.

D, Destructive or Summoning with Light. Obviously, I need to go for Res on map 2, otherwise this is busted. But even with this, I probably need both Learning and Sorcery and zillions of mana.

Any comments or ideas?

Thank you very much in advance.

map 3 is undoubtedly the hardest of that campaing.

From what I remember, I used a destructive - focused build....and my strategy was to kill my enemies faster than them lol. I think you should creep a lot around your first towns and try to take down some enemies heroes quickly. Maybe you can recruit some creatures on conquered castles?

You get no time to do anything on heroic; you'll be hit by 4 heroes with equal forces in the lvl 20's with destructive magic within the first week.  Either you have expert sorcery, empowered meteor showers, and warlock's luck, you have sorcery + light + res, or you can't win conventionally.

I beat the map on heroic despite that I didn't have sorcery yet, but the way I did it was somewhat absurd.  Post above said he tried to follow what I did, but he didn't.  I literally only took 1 town in the southeast, and not the one you can reach on day 1 with logistics(do not turn left at the fork, don't even go that way, just keep going north initially).  I ignored that one and rushed north, not stopping for anything except to take the ONE town and recruit some hydras before literally footing it the next day again.  Shadya chased Realag up there too.

I couldn't beat those 4 heroes at once or in tandem.  I couldn't even come close, so instead I ran, grabbing gold chests and doing day 1 capture + recruits on other towns guarded by lvl 1 junk heroes throughout the map while hiding shadya.  Only after I finally managed to pick up empowered spells + sorcery did I actually take on enemy heroes, and even then not all at once (many of them stayed in or near the SE town they recaptured)

However, by running straight north, you miss every enemy hero coming from the west because they still converge on your 1st captured town, then once they converge there they consolidate their forces and you can outmaneuver them.

It's a hellish way to play a map, outnumbered and against heroes that are initially your equal or better, but the AI is so bad at maneuvering/cornering your hero that you can win a surprising # of maps on heroic with #'s acquired simply by avoiding the hard fights .  I pulled similar nonsense in Sylvan mission #2 for example, simply running from Deleb and using summon creatures until I had ~40 arch devils and 80 pit lords and crushed her with pure, unadulterated #'s.  She took my sylvan town and even retook a demon town, but it didn't matter.  Baiting AI heroes and logistics can completely ruin it.  Unless you have a fixed objective that can't fall, it's one of the easiest ways to win in HOMM against CPU lol.

Hello TheMeInTeam!  Good to see you here!  I really appreciate your Heroes let's plays.  They're very entertaining.

I remember playing this map for the first time a couple of years ago.  I was playing on hard at that time and, like everyone here, was overwhelmed with the initial enemy heroes rush.  I don't remember my Raelag built exactly but I don't remember having a lot of power magic-wise.  I did something similar to TheMeInTeam but I stayed mainly in the lower portion of the map.  Taking one castle, grabbing what I can, running away to the other castle, and repeat.  Eventually, I was able to defeat all initial AI Heroes and my position was secured in the south-west area.

There was something though that probably helped me a lot: I had no Inferno involvements as all their heroes just stayed at their spawn points.  They never moved an inch for the remainder of the map.  This was sure an oddity, but then I saw TheMeInTeam's playthough recently of this map and saw that at least one Inferno army did the same thing.  Well, this is what happens when maps are heavily scripted.  There's always something not foreseen by the mapmakers that make weird things like this happen.

Anyway, I think running around the map is really the best way to conquer this one.

All 3 inferno heroes (at 2, 4, and 6 cities) did wind up attacking me eventually.  I think what happened is that I took 2 towns, triggering his spawn, but then enemy dungeon took the town back, confusing the demon hero.  Once I actually made some progress on the map had towns, the demons did in fact attack me.

I believe it's a similar property with the enemy dungeon heroes; they are scripted to target towns and unless you're in range of one, that's where they are going.  As a result, the map is pretty doable with expert logistics, which really gives you some wiggle room in terms of movement.  With town portal, you can afford to pretty aggressive and TP home.

I decided to replay the campaigns under 3.1, hard difficulty.

Raelag campaign is easier in 3.1 because of invisibility. I like the first mission, it's a nice training map. If you can clear mission 1 within the month, you can play dungeon You'll naturally need destructive and enlightenment prioritised, logistics and sorcery can come after. Get ignite and fireball will be your most damaging spell.

In mission 2 just follow the roads that lead to undergrounds. If you have stalkers, fireball/meteor and enough mana/sp you can annihilate whole cities. And if they die, you can grab some shadow mistresses.

Mission 3 is actually good. Lots of enemies, lots of paths for them to come at you, you must constantly be on your guard. You also can't have more than 4 heroes, which seriously limits your exploration.

Basically a L2P campaign
