I think you have waited too long.

After you recapture the Elven capital , you should recruit another hero. Give the emerald dragons and master hunters to Findan and the rest of the troops to the other hero. The rest of the troops will be enough to protect the capital.
Board the boat with Findan ( day 1 or 2 ) and head south. I've managed to capture the Sylvan town , then I took out the garrnisons and captured the Necropolis town rather easy. The dragons and master hunters should be enough to beat the teal player early in the game.
One of the heroes you have to save is in an undeground prison , close to the Necropolis town. save that hero with Findan and save the second hero with the first hero saved by Findan ( the second hero is in a prison in the southwestern region of the map )

Does anyone know the criteria for which spells can be imbued? Specifically, can FireWall be imbued?

Up until the Sylvan campaign, I hadn't seen any bugs that required a map restart. But then along comes Sylvan mission 1, and those pesky invaders just don't want to invade, so the level can never complete.

I tried tempting them by putting a weak hero right by a garrison. It sort of worked, in that I finally got the two cutscenes for the loss and recapture of the garrison, but the inferno enemy still won't show.

So it's restart time. And this with patch 1.1!

I'm having a rough time with the second mission. I started out by capturing the mines, then moving underground to take the Middle Inferno town. I hit the level cap really early on and didn't have quite the skills I wanted, but no serious problems. At some point though I was up against an inferno hero and greatly outnumbered. Initially I tried winning the battle, but ended up coming out of it with a handful of archers and druids. Then I tried reloading a little ways back and capturing the second Inferno town in the NorthEast, which caused the hero to chase after me. Fighting him in the town didn't really help at all, and somehow he had more troups that time around. I'm not sure how it happened, since he never travelled to any other towns...

Also, did anyone else get Meteor Shower during this mission? I got Chain lightning and Implosion but I really wanted meteor shower. Should I restart the mission? Both Inferno towns had the same 4th and 5th level spells.

I dodged a bullet (or rather Grawl, as it were) on my last time through mission 2.  I think you need to do this one fast.  I sailed to the NE castle on week 3, I think, and took it with ease.  Returning home, I went to the middle castle on land.  Finally, when I sailed for the last, NW castle I met up with Grawl at sea.  He crushed me easily  I reloaded from a couple of turns earlier, and evaded him.  He went to the middle island, while I sailed to his castle, summoning some extra Sylvan troops on my way.  I took the nearly empty castle, which left the AI homeless.  Grawl wasted too much time trying to decide where to go, and then his time was over!

Need a little help with Mission 5. I read through the first four pages and I see no Golden Bow artifact near where you first enter. I also do not see the teleporter in the NE corner of the underground to take you into Necro land. I just completed the Seer quest and am ready to head over to invade but don't see a way there.

Actually I finished this mission w/o the Golden Bow because it simply disappeared from where I got it on the first try.  Even though it's a very nice piece of artifact due to its no range penalty bonus, it won't help much anyway in the final battle.  Phantom Image is your friend here for this mission.

As for the teleporter to necro land, you just need to follow the path from the necro town located in the middle toward the NE portion of the underground map and it's there, can't possibly miss that!

Tip for mission 1 can't complete bug

Like others who've posted here, I had trouble getting mission 1 to behave properly so that I could complete it. After a bit of searching I saw a suggestion that the problem was linked to loading a saved game early in the mission. I think it's right.

One of my playing habits is that when the next mission (or campaign) becomes available, I get through the cutscenes, take a look at the objectives, save and quit. Then at my next playing session, I load up the save and play from there.

Well, I had four goes at completing the damn thing from the initial save, and each time either the necromancers didn't attack at all, or they attacked but the inferno hero (Biara?) never spawned.

The fifth time I restarted the mission and played afresh, determined not to load a saved game until I saw Biara. It worked - the entire mission played differently and ran to completion.

So if you're just starting this mission, save yourself some pain and avoid loading a save like the plague (or indeed a plague zombie)

Im stuck in mission 6. I already killed Nicolai but I can't locate 4rd artifact or eye of magi and spectral Dragons.

All 4 artifacts are underground.  1st and 2nd one should be easy to find since they're quite nearby once you descended from the above.  The 3rd and 4th are kind of easy to miss since they're located toward the bottom right portion of the map.  And by the way, I didn't return the artifacts to the seer at all because of the great stats that helped more or less in the last battle.

The location of the spectral dragons will be revealed after you visited the hut of the magi located just south of your 2nd elven town.  Once you killed them all, Nikolai can then be destroyed permanently.

I disagree that unicorn bow string is useless for the last battle. If you think about it it effectively doubles number of your hunters/druids.
And maybe you can't locate it because phrase "just south" confuses you. It's not really "just south". Teleport gate is in top left corner, while bow is on the very left of the map, but vertically like in the middle of it.

1st Mission: according to my experience, the bug with missing Biara strikes if you load before the first necromancer attack, which should come during the first week or early on the second.  After that you are free to save/load.

Last mission: an AI hero may steal the Bow before you get to it - that's what happened to me the last time I played.

questions on mission 4.

Do we need to complete the secondary objectives? what benefits does it bring to Findan? I only managed to find 2 artifacts, how many are there?

Will we be able to save Tieru? Does he have to die? And since when is the elven king dead?

You can also find those artifacts in the 5th mission. There are 4 of them.

Tieru can't be saved. I don't know how the elven king died , but IIRC he died shortly after Findan had liberated the elven capital.

oic, thanks a lot.. I thought he was going to be judge, never knew that judge means death.. it was not mentioned though.. so both leaders of the elven and wizards community (and also the humans, if you consider nicolai), will Realag be the overall leader? I like him because his SP is amazing..

Wow, when I finally got to Nicoli during the last mission he had 8.5K skeleton archers, 200+ Vampire Lords, 800+ Plague Zombies, etc. I got 180,000 exp for beating him. As it was, he could have won easily, but messed up, although I did lose to him the first four times I tried. I can't believe how many times I said to myself "looks like I got him unless his Ghosts somehow evade my attacks three times in a row" At the beginning of combat his skeleton stack is able to kill virtually any unit with one hit, but for some reason he doesn't go against my ranged stacks. With Favored enemy I was able to kill around 750 skeletons every time my Master Hunter stack's turn came up.

I was able to kill most of the enemies units using the Imbue Balista/Meteor Shower trick. The computer only had the Skeletons and a 200 Fire Elemental stack as ranged units and never moved any of the other units. So, with imbue balista, and rain of arrows, the computers stacks were getting 5 Meteor Showers each turn!

I can only imagine how crazy some of the battles will get in the Academy Missions...

I never once saw Nicoli use Phantom Forces.

Nicoli Spells:
Frost Ring
Banshee Howl
Ice Bolt
Raise Dead
Slow
Spectral Armor (The 5th level summoning shield spell)

What is really sad is that he didn't use Raise Dead at all the game I won. Meteor shower is the easiest counter to Phantom Forces.

yah, but the thing unfair about phantom force is that once he cast it, they always the next to move... i only have one hero and he seem to be way slower than nicolai... that is no way i can cast meteor shower before the troop take it action, by then, it is no use casting..

i can win this if not the the lousy computer cheat by making me experiencing bad luck on every turn (even though I'm only 0)... i am getting really disappointed with the game and the way they cheats.. if i see no improvement over this in the next few patches, it is going to be my last hero game...

My version of Nicoli had bonuses to his units initiative. I think he had +2. I had the ring of speed however, which meant that I also got +2. I'm starting to wonder if either Nicoli got unlucky and never learnt the Phantom Forces spell, or, if he will only cast it when he knows the unit will get the next turn before I act.

I have been playing the Campaingn's on 'Hard' difficulty, how about you? Also, I did end up getting low morale and luck penalties more often than I thought I should, my luck and morale were both at -1 I think, after the Banshee Howl.
