Question about multiplayer saves..
I haven't had the time to play online yet, but I'm wondering how the saved games are protected. Is there a system with password protection like in H4, or is there none at all?
Perhaps there is some sort of ID code to prevent people from starting the game unless it's the same players?

as far as I can tell, you could probably play the saved game in hot seat, right? so one could view saves. There isn't any protection, just like it was in homm3. On the other hand, its probably best to play the game in one sitting anyways.

Now that is a very big setback..
So technically you could load the game on another computer. Sheesh, you would think that they'd implement some kind of protection. The solution is right there -> The password protection in Heroes4.

Isn't that tournament of honnor ? should we not just play as much honorable as possible each ? without cheating ? and even, without fear of the opponent to cheat ?
.. ok there's the hall of shame and some people probably will do all their possible to become famous that way

Save games from online do not seem to work (or even show up) in hotseat.
I tried it because I too am scared of this. It seems that the game itself checks the save for where it was saved from, and will only allow loading of it in that format (Ubi.com, hotseat, LAN, etc)
I could be wrong, but I think I did things right to check...

so let me get this straight... you cannot watch view a multiplayer save in hot seat? That is a very good thing... and saves us at least one way of potential cheating. Of course, the downside is if a savedgame is needed for review on the Honor Council, there would be no way to analyze the save.

Quote: So, noone will be able to look at your game? So, if you use a trainer (http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=18075), hack your save file or break some rule during the game, noone will ever know about it?
Hmm that gave me a bad feeling :/
We need to check how this works. If I understand it correctly, you cannot load the game if one of the save files have been edited, both need identical files? If so, then a trainer is np.
Too many kids who think cheating is a form of skill these days.

This topic about HV modding suggests that duel heroes and probably maps can be edited, but a "checksum error" will prevent you from taking advatages of the changes unless all players have the same changes.
Atleast I hope that's the case
A little less worried now..

If the save file is hacked, chances are the checksum for that will fail and your opponent wont be able to join. Dead game.
Same thing with trainers I would imagine...
As for checking the saves and what not, the only thing I can think of (at this time) to alleviate that is screenshots.

I have taken this one step further, and found that if you play on LAN (like in Hamachi - over internet based virtual lan), THOSE games can ALSO not be played in hotseat...
Ubi still has the most secure version though, as the LAN games can be viewed over a LAN with both players having the same names as in the save, but it involves alot of time to get things transferred, loaded, and what not... as the game doesnt seem to see the save files you physically put in the directory once the game is loaded (might just be a bug).

well then, we have good news mixed with bad -- looks like its virtually impossible to cheat in multiplayer (GOOD), but multiplayer for now is quite buggy to a point where its virtually impossible to have a game finish (BAD)

It could be just the server is causing linking errors for many of the bigger problems. That would make sense for the troubles i saw with the game with Midnight and today with JB... I'm going to reinstall my game in any case.
