Poll Question:
Enough is enough

Ok, I have had just about enough of the spam. Things have to change. I have been reading through recent threads and such and found that the main culprit of this useless and boring act is William. After much deliberation with another HC member, I have decided to make this poll deciding Williams’s fate. It is in the wastelands as Valery wishes for it to gain support before moving it to the Tribunal.

Basically, you cannot just make a poll about someone’s fate without giving just reasons and various options. Therefore, here are mine.

1) William should have a flood protect of 981723691013740 seconds, or some other outrageously long figure. Not only would this be irritating to William, and probably quite refreshing to us, it may make the youngster think twice about what he posts and whether it is something that was worth waiting 981723691013740 seconds for. This will improve the quality of his posts, thus making him a better and more productive member of the community.

2) William should be silenced for some extended period of time. This will give him time to calm down and think about his posting habits and how he will go about changing them. After the period is up, he may show Valery a plan of how he will change. If Valery thinks it is sufficient, the silence will be lifted with no restrictions on posting. However if William breaks the rules he sets himself in his plan, he may incur further consequences.

This is what I, and other members who have discussed this with me propose. I would appreciate a swift and serious response from all on the matter.

____________

Responses:
Yes, William should be silenced for some extended period of time
Yes, William should have a flood protect of 981723691013740 seconds, or some other ou
No, things are fine the way they are

William. Seriously members who started out the way you did never changed their posting habbits, or it took them a VERY long time to do so. Soccerfeva is an example of someone who never changed his habbits. RSF and 2Xtreme are examples of spamers who took a very long time to change their ways, and quite frankly i dont want to wait that long.

The reason Soccerfeva never changed was because by the time he decided to stop being a spammer nobody took him seriously anymore and everything he said was just a toss. I dont want this to happen to you. Consider this a favor.

edit: No i dont expect him to live that long but i just wanted to get the message across.

You only say that because you have been threatened with a form of punishment. You wouldnt change if someone just asked you too. Look at the bigger picture. This will help you as a member of HC, instead of being another "Ahhh crap another post from William"

I dont want that to happen to you because your not a bad guy, you just spam too much and post useless crap sometimes. If your given this time to think you will become a more constructive poster who will surley be respected by fellow HC members for taking the punishment like a man, instead of having a cry.

I dont need a break and I dont need someone telling me how to run my life, because its MY life and not yours.
You do whatever you wanna do with your life, and stop telling others what to do with theres.
Your not my mum or my dad so dont do it.

Just a hint for you william:
Donīt react (post) on every thread, especially not on threads like this one. If the "victim" doesnīt react, such threads become boring very fast and will die in the wastelands, coz no1 will respond anymore.
There is also no need to repeat ones posting like u "sometimes" do in the Library ("Yes, this is right......", or "True, it can be done like this..." and so on...).
State your opinion. Let others state their opinion and wait till a discussion starts. Donīt start it yourself all the time..

Examples of unnecessary spam:

-You don't have to post all the creatures/abilities in h5 when AoH is a click away.
-Copy/pasting useless info ftw.
-Crying in caps about a floodprotection that will never happen
-Creating polls for every single little thing on your mind.

Here is a tip that will make you more popular on the forum and in real life:
- Buy heroes 5 & Play heroes 5.

Now you are probably wondering why this will give you a better reputation:

Because if you channel all the energy (and time) you spend on this forum into Heroes 5 instead, then you will (doubtless) become a godlike player. This will in turn give you eternal glory and respect from the HoMM community. You're ~15, you were made to play games, not to discuss them (you post when you don't have the time to play)

Spamming and tossing is allowed imo. But all these useless efforts at gathering +qp are getting on my nerves.

William needs a lot of improvement. He needs to understand a lot more than he does now. He needs to realize what he does and work at becoming a better poster. He's been given several chances already, I know, and it looks like a bunch of us are still irritated by him.

However, I don't think DS's strategy will work (unless, of course, you don't want to see William post here again). As for "helping" William to improve, I can't see that happening. This poll is designed to satisfy DS and whoever else's wish to be through with William's spam or whatever you'd like to call it. Why don't I think it will help him? Because it'll only make him upset and he'll probably be moved to leave HC in disgust. Only one side will be satisfied, but the other will remain bitter and resentful. William really wants to be here, but I'm afraid he'll ultimately lose out to a powerful majority who cannot tolerate him.

William is still young, and he hasn't been at HC for very long. He probably lacks the knowledge and maturity of years that most of us have. People like DS and Acu have been around for a while now, and folks like Niceguy, PC, and I have been around for at least one year. And what about William? Several months. Even when I joined in November 2004, I was already eighteen years old and in college. I learned the ropes here at HC through both good and bad times. I already possessed some level of maturity because of my age at the time. Folks like PC are closer to William's age, but PC's been here a full year already. And how can I forget how a bunch of members kept picking on him (then A_R_F) for spamming left and right. He reformed, but not after some trying times (right PC?).

In this sense, I'm kind of disappointed by you guys, PC and Niceguy, for your condescending responses. "Sit down and shut up", and the insinuation that William would not know the meaning of that phrase. Why does that remind me of Stiven? Remember when LG and other spammers were targeted by Leo, TA and Stiven a year ago? I don't think you were in any position to speak in the same way. I believe we've lost ourselves in frustration here. We weren't all fine and dandy throughout our entire stay at this forum.

William lacks a lot of support here. I can already tell that this is more of a losing battle for him and that he won't be allowed a chance to improve. In a way, I'm even wondering why there's an option to vote "no" in this poll. This whole scheme just won't work in a benign way for both parties. You guys might not care about how William feels, but it doesn't sit well with me.

DS, I'm not so certain that silencing/banning William will erase all of HC's spam problems. I know you didn't really mean it in that context, but this is something I want to point out. HC will still have spam every now and then, and things might still be "boring" to some members. But if I recall correctly, some people complained about HC being too boring even before William arrived. There must be a bigger solution than just getting rid of one member.

Arangar, buying and playing H5 needn't change anything. On a side note, I highly doubt I'll ever play H5 or even H4 for that matter. Without guiding William in the right direction slowly but surely, what good would that do? I believe the solution requires a collaborative effort and patience from all of us. If everybody is against William and openly expresses that fact, how can anyone expect him to improve?

About a month ago, I said I'd help advise William on his posting and decision making on the forums. I guided him for a while, and he seemed willing to listen to my tips. Unfortunately, I faultered at around finals time, and I kind of left him on his own to do whatever. Had I been persistent in advising him, perhaps he would have continued to improve. Some people need to be guided, as that is their path to improvement and gaining crucial experience. I'll argue that maybe William doesn't have enough mutual support that he requires. And even though I've often sided with him, it can still be very discouraging to William when most other members are far more negative in their thinking. I know that a lot of you have given him tips on how to behave in the past, but perhaps the extention of advice wasn't warm or friendly enough to sink in meaningfully. I know from looking around that a lot of folks tend to speak very bluntly around here. That might not help very much for William, and even I get turned off by it.

Don't get me wrong. I want to see HC thrive and maintain a reasonably spam-free atmosphere. And I agree that William still has a lot to learn in terms of being a member here. I didn't agree with several of his posting decisions, among various other things. Furthermore, I also agree that his bid for modship would be better off when he's been here for a longer while. I just think this is the wrong approach to trying to set things right. Don't let your frustrations at William (however severe) blot out the possibility of a win-win situation. I have that sort of thing envisioned, so why not work towards that?

I've observed Soccerfeva while he was still here and I don't think William's behavior matches SF's. Looking back through the older threads, I've noticed that SF often acted erratically shortly after he repeatedly promised to change. In my dealings with William so far, I know he's a different kind of person. He listens and tries to please when he feels encouraged enough. I'd spoken with SF occasionally on a mostly friend-to-friend level, but I noticed that he was consistently veering off course in his own state of mind. William on the other hand has potential, and I think he can definitely change for the better if we all join in the effort. Patience is what I ask of all of you, since we can achieve great things if we work towards it hard enough. This isn't the easiest thing to do, and it might seem like a very weak plan, but it might just work if we give it an honest go.

Edit:
There are several things about how many HC members act or talk that irks me or even thoroughly pisses me off from time to time, but I try to keep cool and level-headed. I might not appear agitated on the outside, but massive wars can take place inside me. It's difficult to work around these differences, indeed, but I have to try my best to maintain a sense of peace with those around me. Sometimes a little raw initiative is necessary to keep really bad situations from breaking out. So in this sense, I hope everybody can work on their tolerance for William and anybody else who's bugging you.
