The Naga Sanctuary - an idea for a town.

I was so inspired by the information about the Naga units from Warcraft III (see other topic on expansion town troups) that I thought, how would this translate into Heroes V world? Well ... it's only a thought, but this is what I came up with. What do you think - could this be fun to play?

Naga Sanctuary
Setting: Underwater / Sea Port / Swamp?
Asociated Colours: Naval Blue and Turqoise.
Core Filosophy: Those who hold the power should use the power.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral / Lawful Evil?
Arch enemy: The Dungeon.

Units:

Comments:

According to all roleplay/fantasy/computergame sources, the Naga are creatures focused very much on magic/sorcery. This is very much reflected in my choice of units, which have spellcasting creatures at level 2, 4, 6 and 7 - the ones at level 4 and 6 being primarily attacking forces, however.

The Mur'Gul are typical cannon fodder - lousy but numerous. The cunstruction ability might come in handy during sieges (to help traverse motes), since the Naga fources are at a lack of flying units.

The Naga Summoner and Elementalist is the only level 2 spellcasting unit, which is why I thought it would be reasonable to introduce spellcasting units at such a low level. It's not a very powerful unit, and is not ment to be (the Summon Water Elemental thing should be very restricted to work!), but I like the Summon Water idea. This should add a new tactical aspect to the battle field, because it should allow you to build barriers that only flying troops or amphibious troups will be able to cross (or, say, other creatures move very slowly to make it not too powerfull). Lots of new opportunities there ... and also, the Snap Dragon will be able to submerge itself in the pools.

The Snap Dragon is a pretty plain unit, giving the town some ranged power. The slowing poison can also come in handy.

The Naga Myrmidons and Royal Guards are typical heavy infantry units. The added spellcasting ability of the Royal Guards - albeit quite limited - should add some extra tactical elements to the game. Good units for dealing damage, but not too strong in themselves, their application will need planning.

The Dragon Turtle is something between a reappearance of the Mighty Gorgon and the Seamonster of Heroes 4. I've scaled down the devouring thing a bit, to make it not too powerfull (it will only work on small monsters - poor Titans *lol*). The Carapace makes this quite a sturdy unit, even though it hasn't got that many hit points.

The Couatl is another funny unit - not too strong itself, it's got some pretty fancy magical abilities - however, a dispel magic spell on this one can make it quite vulnerable. It's capable of doing good damage, though, and the HP are decent.

The Siren - oh, this one will be a challange. I cannot say whether this unit is ballanced. It's weak, and like the Spectral Dragon, it comes in numbers (3 a-week, to be exact ). Very nasty specials this one, but don't put it up against a black dragon! I don't know if it'll work, but I love several of the specials. It could be fun to try.

Top marks for effort, nice work! Plus I like your presentation. Strangely though I'm not sure what to say here, since the creatures are copied from Warcraft...
I like it since it has a strong theme - but then it would of course. The balance is perfect between Nagas and creatures. Siren / mermaid is a little weak to be level 7 but you have compensated suitably (balance could be very hard here I feel).
Couatl is great (maybe he could be level 7?), so are the other two Nagas. My only slight complaint here is that I prefer 'true mythological' creatures in Heroes; I guess I'm too stuck to H3 ways. This criticism is defunct really since the creatures are from Warcraft, but if that castle was to appear in an expansion, that would be my feeling. Maybe replace Mur'gul with Goblin (name change only) - that would be all that is needed there to satisfy me. Similarly we could have Basilisk and War Turtle. Hey, maybe argus and wyvern could be in there somewhere... Anyway, now I'm fantasising beyond the purposes of your post - and I've said a lot for someone who didn't know what to say ! Surely it will be interesing to see the real castles. Once again, very well done for holding my interest here!

PS- love the Warcraft graphics; tried to come up with own town idea but failed...

I understand your concern with the strong relation to Warcraft, but basically, the idea of this was just to see whether the creatures of Warcraft would translate into Heroes in a sensible way, which is interesting, because there are strong indications that the expansion will offer us a Naga town.

And as for the thing with the Sirens and the Couatl - yes, it would be much easier to make the Couatl level 7, but also much more boring, because there is already 4 flyers + 1 telerporter + the Phoenix as level 7 creatures, which would make another one redundant. There are no spellcasters on level 7 in the current game! Similarly, there are 2 spellcasters on level 6, and no flyers - therefore, it's much more interesting to add a flyer on level 6 than another spellcaster.

Also, I liked the idea of having the possibility to give the Siren some of these really nasty specials like double shot with petrify and some really nasty spells like Puppet Master and Confusion, and I like the idea of the Mirror Image spell being taken into the game. Of course, it'll need real testing to make the balancing right, but I think it's important to settle for something new - which might be more interesting to play - rather than another level 7 pseudo-dragon, as the Couatl would be.

Oh hardly a concern, of course this was the purpose of the town post. Sorry if it came across that way.

I hadn't realised this and now fully agree with you .

Very nice, very WarcraftIII: the Frozen Throne. You could have been a bit more original. Still very nice though.

As I said, the idea was that I wanted to see if it was possible to translate the Warcraft Naga society into Heroes ... Hence the similarity.
