Can't start HOMM3, error: requires at least 5MB...

After playing HOMM3 for a few days, suddenly I can't start the game, and I get this error message when I try to start it:

The error says, "Heroes III requires at least 5MB of free space on the current drive."

If I click the checkmark, it dumps me back to the Windows desktop.

My hard disk has over 7 gigabytes free.  I'm running Windows XP with 1gb RAM.  And I have been able to play the game for a few days.  Anyone know what to do?  I can't find anything on the Internet.

I know about that problem with other programs. Seems it wants to put Data on your wrong drive (CD). Have u tried to install the game new?

Fixed.

Yes, I did reinstall the game, and it worked.  Then I put all my saved games back into the game's folder, and it didn't work.  And I panicked!  That meant I couldn't restore a saved game!!

Then, I don't know how thought of it, but I thought maybe there were TOO MANY saved games in the folder (there were only about 100 of them).  So I deleted all but a few of the most current saved games, and voila!  I could play again.

Too many saved games = unable to start game.  Gotta remember that.
