While I agree Light Magic is one of the better schools, it's perhaps the one that's least prone to abuse.

Sylvan with Rain Of Arrows + Channeling is almost certain recipe for instant pawn in late game, make that Destructive (Meteor Shower, lol), Dark (Frenzy or Blind, lol) or Summoning Magic (Wasp Swarm).

I think perhaps I currently rate Frenzy as the most annoying spell in game, and the one that can really be abused. Puppet Master less so after patches. Phantom Forces is also really powerful with very high spellpower, and of course Summon Phoenix can be rediculously powerful, but I think the weaknes of Summoning is that there are so many useless spells also, so it's a real gamble with your mageguild (or you pick it later in game).

Useless? Earthquake and Fist of Wrath maybe, or Wasp Swarm/Hive against undead. Everything else just requires creative use (though Summon Elementals is quite a gamble without Fire Warriors, Earth and Water are quite useless).

For instance, Crossfire or Scatter Shot are excellent for detonating Arcane Crystals without using an entire action or precious mana for it. It's also one of the best schools for using Mark of the Wizard, as it doublicates spells like Arcane Crystal, Firetrap or Phantom Forces.

You don't need spellpower for Phantoms which makes it an excellent choice (via Sorcery>Magic Insight) for DemonLords. They have the mana to cast it and a low tier unit to use it on (Grunts), Tier 5 and above need summoning mastery. Starting initiative of Phantoms depends on hero level.

My favorite is summoning. But I think summoning is the weakest overall. Summoning has too many spells that are only situationally useful and that leads to a greater chance of getting a poor spell selection. Summoning magic could be greatly improved with better perks and overhauling a couple of spells (like earthquake and summon elemental.)

Fist of Wrath starts off too weak to be useful in creeping though it becomes better than magic arrow after a certain SP (13 maybe? I forget.) Best hope for fire trap for creeping. Raise dead too is not so useful in most situations for creeping unless you are a necro. Wasp Swarm can be useful for the wizard with MOW. Arcane crystal can be good but requires an additional action to set it off. Creatures may move out of the blast radius if you are not careful. Phantom forces is one of my favorite spells. Earthquake....bleh. Blade Barrier needs a hit point boost as it really only lasts for one turn when attacked. Summon Elementals....bleh. Elementals are too few, too slow, appear in a random location, and are mostly not useful. It seems every patch nerfed this level 4 spell. Summon hives can be useful at times but has waaaaay too low hit points. Easily destroyed. Arcane armor can be nice but I cry when I get it instead of Phoenix. Phoenix is good early but fades in late game.

I think the "pecking order" for school strength is dark, light, destruction, and summoning. The mass spells are a major boon for dark and light. Not only do they cast faster thatn any other spell (even if the caster has expert sorcery for non-mass spells) they affect every/many enemy unit(s) and can be effective with low spell power. Such mighty spells should be much more difficult to cast.

I agree, the Mass Perks are so much better than a measly spellpower boost or a medicore sideeffect. And the fact that a Mass spell only takes one turn to cast is quite over the top.

If I'm not mistaken, the starting ATB of Phantoms will depend on the Spellpower of the caster. Thus, a high power hero will have the phantoms act almost immediately after casting, which makes it much more useful.

As for the useless spells of Summoning ... Earthquake and Fist Of Wrath, certainly, but also Summon Elementals and Raise Dead has very situational usage (unless you have Fire Warriors perk, but if you have that perk, you will get the spell for free anyway), and while Arcane Armour is far from useless, it's rarely a true life-saver. Thus, there is at each level at least one spell I think is much weaker than the others.

And about Teleport Assault vs. Frenzy ... sure, it's good, if your Hero acts at the right time. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.

True, but that goes for other schools too. Maybe not to the same extend but especially the 5th circle suffers universally from that problem. Word of Light, Curse of the Netherworld, Armaggedon are all very situational and rarely preferable to spells like Ressurection, Puppet Master or Implosion.

I voted for summoning magic. Armageddon is one of the most useful spells out there if you use it right. Raise dead is very helpful too.

I voted for summoning magic. Armageddon is really useful if you use it right. In my opinion, anyone who dislikes summoning magic just doesn't know how to use it. It has many benefits that alot of people do not see.

But i voted for destruction nothing like casting a freezing circle of ice or a nice meteor rain (i play with dungeon )
