My H5 Expansion Town - Stronghold

Race: tribal ogres
Town: Stronghold
Hero: Barbarian
Terrain: desert (in use, but snow would be weird...)
Associated Colors: light brown, dark orange, light grey
Core Phillosophy: Glory through Might
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Nemesis: my upcoming Fortress town

The Barbarian tribes are widespread and reside in all deserts and mountains. Most Barbarian heroes are leaders of tribes, while some rule whole cities and lands, and some are loners who fight for gold n' glory.
Barbarians aren't very fond of magic, and tend to despise it, although they can wield it. In general, the stronghold town has no true spellcasters, and most of it's units are based on brute strength.

Units:

Level 1: Goblin -> Goblin Wolf-Lord

Weak creature, good only in large numbers. Goblins and their upgraded have very low attack and defence, but are produced in quite the quantities. Goblin Wolf-Lord will never stand at less then 1 morale(Brave).

Level 2: Axethrower -> Axethrower Chieften

Powerful shooters with great attack but no defense. Immune to mind-spells. Ogre Axethrower Chieften shoots twice.

Level 3: Harpy -> Harpy Hag

Fast flyers, excellent when besieging an enemy town. Very efficient creatures; good attack, but poor defense. Strike and return. Harpy Hag takes no enemy retaliation.

Level 4: Sage -> Ogre Mage

The backbone of any Barbarian army. Ogre Sages and Mages are capable fighters that have balanced stats with a tendency to the attack. They are relatively expensive, however. Ogre Mage may cast Bloodlust several times during battle.

Level 5: Amazon -> Valkyrie

Strong riders of the Stronghold. Large creatures. Effective mostly in large numbers, though they can be useful in small ones too thanks to their manouverability. Strikes twice. Valkyrie can also heal friendly units.

Level 6: Goliath -> Cyclops

Powerful rock-throwing shooter. Deadly no-matter what, but trains in small numbers. Cyclop King may batter-down walls like Catapult. Has 20% magic immunity.

level 7: Behemoth -> Frenzied Behemoth

The ultimate condensation of brute force. Behemoths and Frenzied Behemoths are almighty creatures, who can cover a large distance and deliver a strong blow against any enemy. Both have +20% damage vs. small units, and both are immune to curses. Frenzied Behemoth is immune to mind-spells, and inspires fear.

Stronghold hero class: The Barbarian
As said before, most Barbarians are leaders of tribes, while some rule whole cities and lands, and some are loners who fight for gold n' glory.
Barbarians are might heroes in general, but can learn all magic skills. Most Barbarian specialties are attack&defense related, or have to do with a battle-enhancing unique ability. However, some more unusual specials include "pillage", which grants the hero stone and wood after a succesful battle, or "thiefe", which enables a hero to steal one of the enemy hero's artifacts even when retreating.
The unique Barbarian skill is Magic Resistance. (Yes, I'm aware that's a luck-skill related ability). Magic Resistance increases the magic-resistance of the barbarian's troops. This magic resistance reduces the damage taken from spells by the precentage, and increases the chance to evade a curse by the precentage.

The skill stats are:
Magic Resistance - Basic
+10% Magic Resistance
Magic Resistance - Advanced
+20% Magic Resistance
Magic Resistance - Expert
+25% Magic Resistance, +50% chance to avoid lvl 1 curses
Magic Resistance - Ultimate
+30% Magic Resistance, +50% chance to avoid lvl 1&2 curses

Special abilities are:
Absorb Mana
When the enemy is performing a spell against a creature in the hero's army, there is a 15% chance that the mana used to cast that spell will be taken from the enemy hero to the Barbarian.
Magic Defense
When the Barbarian is garrisoning a city under siege, the Earthquake spell used to destroy walls, will have no effect.
Nucleus
When a mass spell (a bless, or in our case curse) is cast by the enemy against the hero's army, a qaurter of his stacks (25%, 1/4) will not be affected by it.
Anti-Magic
The hero is instantly granted the Fist of Wrath, Mass Cleansing, and Magical Immunity spells. He\she also gains +1 Knowledge.

And it all will probably look like this:

Structures:

Resource Silo
Provides 1 Ore and 1 Wood per day.

Blacksmith
Sells Balista.

Monument (Requires city level 8)
Unique Stronghold structure. Provides +1 Attack primary skill to any visiting hero. Once per hero.

Amunition Works (Requires Blacksmith, city level 8)
Provides Ammo Cart at 150% normal cost.

Nice, although I'd agree that there's not enought in-town variation. Sorry! Plus level 1 doesn't really feel like a level 1.

Alright, I'll change it!

But just know that I did all this thinking that the whole point of H5 is "no creature variation". The original layout included Goblins, Amazons\Valkyries, and Birdmen.

Is Anti-Magic the ultimate ability? Granting the hero several spells doesn't sound very powerful as an untimate ability, imo.

I like the general idea, but I think the Barbarians would prefer something more offensive as their special skill, rather than the Magic resistance? I think that would perhaps fit in better with a spellcasting race like the Nagas (check out for instance this topic: Nagas)

Also, I think you wouls need to add a flying unit. My suggestion would be the following:

1: Goblin / Goblin Bezerker
2: Orc / Orc Axe Thrower
3: Ogre Hunter / Ogre Fighter
4: Vulture / Blood Vulture
5: Ogre Mage / Ogre Shaman
6: Cyclops / Cyclops King
7: Behemoth / Ancient Behemoth

Units would be pretty much in line with Heroes III and IV - a cool special for the vulture would be an ability to feed off corpses on battlefield to gain strength. Also, it might possibly airlift smaller units.

Special skill of barbarians would have to offer something like armor piercing ability to creatures, stunning attacks and increased damage - possibly even double strikes on the ultimate ability.

He he

I think the inclusion of the Harpies is a bit redundant since these creatures are so similar to the Blood Maidens ... but that's your call.

Cool

But the special ablity seem kind unfitting.  Seem too anti-mage, which is strange from a Brawn type of hero

was never a real fan of the barbarian teams in the older games but i agree there should still be one, though i think the skills drain mana and anti-magic arent great as there barbarians ... they dont need mana and the whole point of them is that they dont use magic so creating anti-magic is just an excuse to give them ... well ...magic i think there should be some rocs or thunderbirds like in heroes three in there they rocked (scuse the pun)

So, here is another possibility for an Barbarian town: The Orc Stronghold.

This is pretty much a return to what we saw in Heroes III - I was never that much a fan of the Barbarian time, but it was a solid theme, and it would make all sense to reimport it in the game. Also, remember that the new game History mentions The Orc Crusades (see here for Orc Crusades 467 - 504 YSD).

The setting for this town would be wasteland, the geographical position would be on the plains of Ranar to the Northeast of The Holy Griffin Empire. Associated colours would be buff and blood red.

The Hero would, of course, be the Barbarian. The associated skill would have to be something offensive - possible bonuses should be increased damage - especially increased minimum damage.

The creatures would be something like this:

I'm looking much forward to that. This was deffinitely just a very conventional way to bring the Heroes 3 stronghold into Heroes 5.

It does look like a turkey yes. The artwork was not ment like any final picture of the unit, but only to give a clue of what it could look like (thus, I used the Cyclops and Behemoth of Heroes III). The rest was pictures I found online, the Condor is actually from a book about birds, and as such should look exactly like a condor would do irl. - however, it does look slightly odd in this context, but it was the best I could find.

I don't see the problem, but yes, I can delete it and post it in another thread, if that'll make you happy. Personally, I think it's better not to swarm the forum with new threads, but to collect related posts in the same thread.
