Needed Improvements for Haven

Personaly i think Haven are great .. or at least should be great, unfortunatly they fall short. ive always liked the idea of being a brave noble knight, the idea of controlling hordes of undead creatures is cool but id still rather having a legendary knight ruling my land, but its done so poor!

There should be better  creatures like in the old versions with pikemen and swordsmen, paladins or crusaders not just some squires peasents and crossbowmen. Angels should also be alot better and more godley lol

knights should have better skills rather than the dodgey counterstrke/retalliation thingy.
any other thoughts on this? or am i the only guy who actually likes our heroes counterparts lol

Heh,I guess you are right. The good old crusader has deserted haven and the angel's model reminds awfully a gargoyle but on the bright side griffins have made a spectacular comeback and 'monks' look better than ever.Seems that creature role models are based on warcraft rather than traditional fantasy. As for the skills I see nothing wrong, knights are more defence oriented(thus counterstrike) and they can train humans(for which you should be thankful). They don't sound cool but they work well.

I think there is alot of Warhammer influences (especially the Priest/Inquistor)

Heaven seem to be more of a Balance faction, with more emphasis on Might Defense.  Good spread of shooter, melee, rider, flyer, and caster.  Might be a bit boring to play, but overall, I think they are not too bad.

But I think Squire is a weak name.  maybe like Captain?

And would like to see a Pikeman creature, who would have bonus against riders or large creatures.

A pikeman? How come? They never were fun though they were not bad at their
level except perhaps H1,H2.And true,Castle has been very tactical since H3(3 melee,2 flyers,2 ranged).

The addition of the Peasant and the Conscript instead of the Pikeman and Halbardeer is deffinitely a let down, but I think you miss an important point here: The counterstrike ability might not be the best, but training is an ability that can turn out to be increadibly powerfull in long campaigns. As I see it, the conscript and squire are made week on purpose, because the idea is for you to train them into Marksmen and Inquisitors respectively. This will give you a tremendous ranged power in late game (go home skeleton archers I say!) and in combination with units like the Paladin and the Arcangel, this makes for a very powerful faction. Only minus is that this requires gold ... LOTS of gold.

Training should be reduced in cost SLIGHTLY.  I can't even afford to buy the weekly troops in my castle, let alone train hundreds of peasants into higher level units.  I need to control half the map in order to gain the resources needed to train enough of my troops to make a difference.

Also the Haven ultimate (unstoppable charge) should be changed to something much better.  Compare this to Nature's Luck or Urgash's Call.  Truly incomparable IMHO.

I'm not sure it should be less expensive ... after al, with expert trainer skill and Monument of Heroes, cost is down 50 %, and I think it's fair that training is something you'll only do in mid-to-late game. After all, if you had money to do it in the very early game, you would have a weekly growth of Marksmen that was not 24, but 68 (24 Marksmen + 44 Peasants upgraded)!

Certainly, that would be an excellent added effect of the ultimate skill - another 10 or 20 % off training costs.

Well,by the time you get that ability it will be a bit too late to be of any help.Besides how would it be explained? My super-Duper-Wow hero is so good at charging that a lot of people want to have the honour of being trained by him?Seems a bit funny. But if retaliation could last for a few rounds(attack all creatures that strike my defending stack for more than one round) it would be truly powerful.Just think a guarded stack of paladins and resurrection!Nice!

How about forget the whole unstoppable charge ability completely and replace it with something actually worth getting?  I concur that the Haven ultimate should do something with training.  Either that or improve upon retaliations similar to counterstrike, only more befitting of a true ultimate ability.

how about in addition to training units, when ya have the ultimate skill you could upgrade them again by giving them like a plus 5 attack for a load of money, would be much more usefull and could make it fair depending on how much it would cost for each creature
