I have high hope in the new expansion alt upg system to make inferno the strongest

Right. Make a faction overpowered and nobody will play it (except against another Inferno ofc)

Inferno needs a moment of glory. Nival destroyed it through bad creeping system, and later, crippled it with dwelling costs' change. I wouldn't mind a nice boost for the demons.

I'm not saying Inferno does not need an improvement, but not make them overpowered.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot we're talking about Nival:
- changed training from expensive to very cheap
- changed Vladimir from very strong (in 1.0 where Raise Dead was overpowered) to very weak
- changed stunning effect of Master of Storms from strong (0.3) to weak (0.3)
- changed Inferno from weak to very overpowered (not yet)

... and I think the list is longer

hey, that's absolutely correct Guess everything they try to "re-balance" ends up opposite to what it was before. Great to useless, weak to overpowered etc.

so ph33r teh inferno

ZombieLord you forget that necro nerfed whit last patch. Seems like weakest fanction to me now

And PhoenixReborn i doubt they will make alternative upgrades as powerfull as the Renegades. Life Drains for high level creatures can forget right now when they hafto keep the game balance.

Well there will most probably be a spell "vampirism" that's more powerful than life drain: so an innate life drain won't be that impressive anymore

Should be nice for wraiths. What I also think is that knights with dark will also get draining archangels...Or even worse paladins.

Nothing serious. Creeping power is a bit low on first 2 weeks and the resource costs are steep. But in this respect what should fortress/academy players say??

Well I can say for certain that both fortress and academy have vastly superior creeping ability within the first two weeks, it should be much easier for them to accumulate resources.

Inferno is a strong town there is no doubt.  It has a very hard time if things go south early which is its biggest shortcoming.  The units in the inferno town are very good as a group, but sadly just don't stack up as stand alone troops.  For example if you take your ore pit on day 2 and fight a horde of archers, or even a large lots of archers.. theres a very good chance your imp force will be cut down to nearly nothing.  Losing 1/2 of all of your imps in the first week will almost halt your progress.   Horned Demons are also a very good unit, great support for imps, great to gate into combat or distract that slower stack from arriving at your main force, and their growth is amazing (which is really why they are good).  But they need a bit of assistance to clear out harder creatures, your hero needs to be pumping out some good dmg, or you need another good dmg dealing stack aka Imps.  Most other towns have a unit or 2 that can be built, purchased, and clear some trash on its own with a hero.  Cerberus can do this to some extent, but they are so fragile its difficult to risk at times, especially with the very low number.  level 4, 5, are great units later, but are not capable of rolling around the map clearing without support.  Pit feinds can help clear the map, but against some faster troops the 2 you get in week 1 ( or 2) Just won't cut it on there own sometimes.

Inferno is about speed.  Not so much in the time it takes you to get from your town to your opponent, but in that they need to clear everything fast, and level up quickly, puppet master is almost nessecity for large combats as is some form of gating specialization (Gate master, swarming gate)  Although inferno would prefer to win early it is a force later in the game also.

Now don't get me wrong. I love inferno. Its one of my favorite factions to play ( and no I don't need deleb to enjoy it) However there are just too many factors that can impeed infernos success to call it the strongest faction.

Totally agree about all of that.

imho grok and nebiros is better than deleb, i don't know why, but i use grok and nebiros more often than deleb.

About the expansion, i hope they make a magog like unit as the alt  upg of demon, then one of the hardest inferno problems are solved.

Hehe when you play them you need to think hard in order to avoid being wacked by noname random guardians

We have 2 best faction polls . I'd suggest to clost this thread (as it is much older) because we won't get right outcome if some people will be voting here and some there.

Playing grok and nebiros is not that hard, you don't need to think hard to play them, especially grok, you only need to use his teleport, and it's very easy, almost as easy as blasting everything with deleb, it's just need a little more trick (with his teleport), nebiros also doesn't need hard thinking, but i admit, he need a little more thinking than grok and deleb, but he is far better than all the other demon lords, they need hard thinking.

It seems that inferno is the hardest town to master without those three.

Nymus is not bad as well. Resistance, luck and gate keeper guarantee a good game. Considering that demonlords has an excess of attack and will get the attack skill luck is more useful plus you can gate swarming gate.

Unfortunately a major downfall to the demonlords is their pitiful defense stat.

I've had a game recently vs Sylvan on a relatively large map (week 7 final comabt at about lv28)  in 27 level ups with enlightenment I might add, and after visiting 2 marletto towers on the map I had a whopping defense score of...

drum roll.....

.... 3

Combat starts.. opponent has a ring of speed.. lovely.

long story short, my army was so decimated before I got a chance to move the fact I was boasting a 32 attack skill didn't make a lick of difference.

Is it just me or you guys too think that knowledge for sylvan and inferno is totally wrong stat. it should be more like

inferno:
40% att /25% def/15% spellpower/20%knowledge

sylvan:
25% att /40% def/15% spellpower/20%knowledge

or even more spellpower since both castles have destruction magic in their mage guilds

The same with warlock's attack , they dont need it, why do they have it?. I know that Ubi's intentions were making it offensive castle but their units are far from offensive, hopefully things will change with renegates.

Castles that fully benifit from their stats are Heaven and Academy since they really need their main stats.

Dwarves are balanced so there is no problem there.

Necro is weird castle but defense + spellpower generally makes good mage so the distibution here is not so bad. Although i think that necro is less of a mage than warlock and necro relys more on units than dungeon for example , so i dont know why they got defense instead of attack. I think that both castle would benifit from swap.

Maybe though both factions perform better with dark/light anyway. In any case I do not like how most classes allocate their stats...

Maybe they are trying to force you to pick those skills to fix the weaknesses.  For example I like attack with dwarves simply to give them more punch.

A quick summary of factors determining victory of Inferno VS other factions:

Sylvan: All about initiative. Start first and they'll be dead very fast. If they start first, you'll have a hard time trying to turn the tide of battle.

Dungeon: All hopes are on your familiars + artifacts that provide magic resistance or magic protection. If you can leave their hero with little mana, guaranteed victory.

Academy: Here, your familiars can do nothing about their bottomless pit of mana. Dash all creatures at once and try to end combat asap. Wipe out Djinn Sultans, Archmages and Master Gremlins first.

Fortress: The opposite tactic as compared to fighting Academy. Don't rush. Gate all your units. Skills like preparation, defensive formation and shieldguard's special makes it dangerous and pointless to score a first attack. Let the gated troops attack, then quickly decimate them with help from their low initiative.

Haven: I find this faction quite easy to handle. Champions are the only threat, destroy them asap. Marksmen are somewhat weak.

Necropolis: Extremely difficult for me. Good spellpower to raise dead, tons of creatures, dangerous dark spells. Your best bet would be to hoard a lots of familiars. Otherwise, prepare for a tense battle.
