I could try to convince my buddy greg to join our virtual band.  He is a ridiculous drummer and an homm fan.  He's in a lot of projects already (plays drums for an indie band called Holiday Maker and a metal band called Architeuthis [giant squid] and a band I'm in called Friendly Deadlies...along with a hip-hop project he is doin called 5limbs), but I guess a virtual band isn't that much pressure.

Similarly, I could play bass if needed.  I will be damned if I have to play keys though.  I did that for a few years while I was still crappy at guitar, and I got no friggin respect.

HEAVY METAL

This one post I will edit on a regular basis for at least the next few days. I've been listening to Heavy Load's cult EP <Metal Conquest> (1981) over and over again for the past couple of hours... And one funny little idea came to my mind :

Do you have the slightest idea just how many song titles do include the expression <<Heavy Metal>>

My first guess would be well over a hundred at least. I haven't started counting yet, it's just a preleminary estimation right now. Anyways, my idea is very simple yet interesting (hopefully) : let's actually name and list them ! I think beyond the funny and trivia aspects, it might be a great and somehow neutral angle for us to share and cross our respective metal cultures and experiences.

Note : I'll handle the listing and keep it up to date and classified as it grows by editing this post. You're all welcomed and invited to participate, metalheads ! If this proves any successful, we might do the same with a few other expressions as well (death, hell, angel, blood, steel, Satan, 666...).

Well Leggie very interesting thoughtfull posts ( all of you) but now I´m taking this up a notch.

A little disclaimer: You shouldn´t be reading this if you´re under 18 since it will most definatley give you wet dreams. Ahh who am I kidding? Read it and weap since you´ll never accomplish anything better.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I got a stripper to dance to Dirty Love tonight because I just happened to have the Ace of Spades cd in my jacket as I was chatting her up earlier this evening.
I'd like to think I did everyone in the joint called Ramblez a favor as Motörhead is far superior to the craptastic Puddle of Mudd song she was going to dance to in the first place!

I dunno who the h... mentioned that Mr KFC was a positive thing to come out of RAHG. The man has can´t play for all life is worth but in his defence ALL leads look bad compared to Slash.
The exception would the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen and Mike Trash of The Erotics.

I know that people will disagree to my part about the axemen but lets face it: we all have different views and nothing will change my pov.
F... we´re talking about a hombre sporting a bucket on his head.
This is a guy who won´t even reveal his identity to us.

The Virtual Band
Quote:

It was totally a joke when I suggested that virtual band idea the first time around, I must admit. But come to think of it, it's not like it couldn't happen. Quite some bands are working on their songs via the net, with members scattered in different countries (the power / prog metal band Kenziner comes to mind : the finnish guitarist / composer never actually met his american producer / lyricist nor his american lead singer until their first album was released ! ), after all. Modern songmaking softwares such as FL Studio are well suited for this kind of teamwork online (though I hardly specialize in engineering nor mixing personnaly).

It's been years since I've been involved in an actual band, myself. I have my solo stuff that keeps on piling up, as well as the self-imposed sacred mission of saving, arranging and recording properly all 5 albums composed by the original band I had with my brother in the early nineties. But I also had several parallel experiences over the years, and I have quite some ideas and availability for new (preferably fun and refreshing, to change from my dark, deep, serious usual style) projects.

We all have at least two things in common, besides the fact that we're all members of HC : we love metal and we love Heroes Of Might & Magic. I guess it could be fun to try to put up a song or two just for the fun of it. Maybe Metal Heroes or something ?

As for line-up, we seem to have just what we'd need. Rhodan would handle the keys obviously ! So, I hope you have what it takes to get some friggin respect as a guitarist and / or bassist instead, Okie ! If it will comfort you, I'm a pretty crappy keys player myself : I only use up to 3 or 4 fingers at a time, for composing purposes only.

About Fast Food

Well, I wouldn't like a stripper to do her thing on some serious music, actually. I'd much rather save that for my moments of pure music trip. For the strip-tease, funk / soul classics like James Brown or say, Earth Wind & Fire would put me much more in the mood.

I mean, can you picture yourself in a romantic / sexual situation with a lady, while listening to <<Die By The Sword>> at full volume ? LMAO

As for KFC, I prefer Quick myself (only exists in France and Benelux for all I know, and you don't know what you're missing, you darn foreigners ! ). Always prefered red meat over chicken !

I wasn't being all that serious when I brought it up, either.  But in today's day and age it really wouldn't be that hard to track everything separately as long as we used the same programs.  Heck, I'm not too busy to lay down some rhythm guitar or bass (I'll admit I am not the best shredder...damn dyspraxia...i am sure someone else in this thread could do a better job at lead).  My only hangup is that I don't have the equipment here at home.  Greg has a decent setup, but he is in New York City right now and I won't really have access to that stuff until he returns in about a month.

I'm usually up for something fun and refreshing (and mathy...can't tell you enough how much I love things that aren't in 4).  Not saying it has to be happy shiny people or anything, but I've often been told that my style is "kinda like slint but not so damn serious".

some friends of mine actually had a somewhat similar metal project, based around magic:the gathering, called Ice Age.  All of the lyrics were direct quotes taken from magic cards.  Pretty funny band, too...they also had a ridiculous setup with a two vocalists, three guitarists, two bassists, and a drummer.

So ? Nobody there ? Not even one comment on my heavy metal songs list, so I guess I'll end the underrated listing project here. I was overoptimistic anyways : I expected hundreds, only found about 30. That said, with a more generic term like just "metal", I maintain the list would be virtually endless.

Same here, Okie. All I currently have as far as equipment goes is my old folk accoustic guitar, my voice and my webcam's crappy integrated mike.

So I take it such contributions as Jebus', Rychie's or Rhodan's were meant to be one-shots ? Like "oh, a metalheads thread ! I'll drop by and say hello" but no more. I mean, you're not really interested in having discussions about metal and/or sharing stuff and knowledge with fellow metalheads ?

XJapan Fan (Rusty Nails)
posted July 06, 2006 02:30 PM

Im a music addict, i listens to all sorts, even classical . I don't classify Musics and sort them out in any sense, i just listens and tries to picture myself with their guitar/drums and start ROCKING!!

As i have said in my SIG, all my fans are mainly METALS!!(I like it when i say it loud and clear). It really blow my mind off when i rock in my bedroom. The fast guitar solos perform by the lead guitarist really throws away my sadness and depression when i had them. Sometimes i listen to slow songs too....

Anyway heres the list of my Favourite Band with the most Favourite Songs in their band:

XJapan
Metal--Rusty Nails
Slow--Endless Rain

Metallica
Enter Sandman

Iron Maiden
The Trooper

Anyone have a common idea with me?? Does anyone even know what XJapan is??

A Brief Introduction on XJapan

They are consider the founding father's of Japanese Rock Musics. They have mainly 6 members (Drummer who is also a Pianist/Support Guitarist/Lead Guitarist/Bass Guitarist/Lead Singer).

Their influence in this world is so great that many Asian Countries are affected by their songs. They are so famous and welcomed that he even shake hands with President Bush on his visit to Japan. Though their band was dispersed years ago, their spirit of Metal still affects the spiritual minds of young musicians in Japan and throughout Asia. This is the true meaning of PASSION. Music is not a $$ making job as some thought, it is a show case of true passion. Some songs really spoil the meaning of music,
eg Singers and Competition such as American Idol and all. They just downgrade music into a money making stuff

Haven't heard about XJapan, actually..

But my favourite one with Metallica has to be.. Battery, To Live is to Die, Dyers Eve, No Leaf Clover, Fixxxer, Carpe Diem Baby, Loverman (it's waaaay better than Nick Cave's original), Fight Fire with Fire, My Friend of Misery, Bleeding Me, Hero of the Day ... And pretty much everything else, even if Black Album is overrated and, sadly, played to death.

Anyway, I've been listening to Pain to past few days, and the guy is pretty good, although very uneven. Some songs are great (like Greed, Give it Up, Elleanor Rigby..), but far from all of them.

Whaaat? I like the motional distress (aka BLUES ) they show in Load/Reload! But you do have a point, as ...And Justice for All is the best album ever made. It's just .. whoa. Kill 'em All is ok, but I like the more, in lack of words, precise music they did later on. Like ...And justice... But when it comes to lyrics, I think they did a lot of great stuff with Load/Reload. They communicate deeply with my heart, and I like that.

As a paper-boy (at least for a couple of weeks) I listen to a lot of music in the car, and I have to tell you: Battery sounds special when you drive around 4 in the morning with that pounding in your head.

Dude you need to give a LOT of other metal albums a serious listen before you give this just decent one such a blatantly overrated credit
Quote:

Hmm, you know I'm considering a proper reviews post, here. This band is likely to be discussed over and over again in this thread, anyhow. Might as well spell out the facts about it.
Quote:

I have one main grief against Load/Reload : there's METAL(Lica) written on it, which is an unacceptable lie. Now it might be an okay pair of mainstream pop-rock-variety albums, but it's none of my concern really.

As for lyrics, my pov is very clear : lyrics can be a great bonus, but it's the MUSIC that truly matters. Those giving lyrics the top priority should admit once and for all that they're into POETRY, instead of expecting us MUSIC fans to consider a poem with some generic / void musical background as actual music. This would definitely solve this classic, recurring yet pointless debate of "lyrics vs music". A great song with cheesy or even crappy lyrics (edit : or even NO LYRICS ! instrumentals, simply) is still a great song, while a great poem with crappy music is a waste of my time !

Heh. Lars Ulrich once said that the fans that cares more about lyrics are more serious than other fans. But I get your point. I think I'm leaned both-ways in this matter, but the main reason I listen to bands such as Metallica is mainly because of the lyrics. If a song is great but have awful lyrics I may lay that song aside in favor for a worse song with good lyrics. But I can take bad lyrics to some levels. If a lyric's clever and smart I can accept it, but if it's just a couple of words tied together with moans/groans/screams it feels kinda ridicoulous. Not suprising though, as I've always loved words.

And for Load/Reload: It's not metal for sure, but I like it anyway. I maybe can go as far as call it a blues/rock/folk/metal fusion, but not metal on its own.

@..and justice for all: But I TRULY love this album! When I was 12 I used to listen to it when going to sleep.

But, as stated, I'm more of a Metallica-head than a metal-head. I listen to everything, even if different kinds of metal always will have a place in my heart.
