1) First of all u only need unicorns next to grandelfes for the duration of first round until the oponent cast the first spell it's unlikely that berserk would be used on dendroids because it's a waste of spell and i don't think it will hurt more than other spells (eg:an implosion), because rampart have heroes with high defense skill over their attack your dendroids will not make such much damage on the elfs and about the keeping them there so what u donn't need to move the elfes and u probably already used the elfes, the enemy will still think twice about bringing a unit there to dispose of some elfes while u have dendroids there to trap them.
2) Also I prefer to have the dragons next to unicorns for magic resitance and believe me it's high to protect them from high Implosion rate as they don't have alot of hp and usually u wait first round to attack at the end so u can retreat in second round whithout loosing to much of them (this in the idear u want to play defensive).
3) Mephala with her armorer spec it's very hard to get beaten in a balanced game because of her high defence skill (most probably oponent attack skill will be lower than her defence skill) and enormous amount of hp her army has, add to this and offence and resitance skill and u probably be unstopable.
4) Plus the castle is cheap and has a lot of army as regarding their numbers so what if the creatures are a little weaker in atck/def skills if they are a lot more and have more hp (u have +20 on lv 2, +10 on lvl 4, an +8 on lvl 5 comparing with 16,8,6 in other castles).
5) Also it is probably the best town to use armageddon tactic u just put all your army efforts in defending your dragons and/or surrounding the unicorns for resistance and cast as many armageddons as u can. Try it and see what can happen, even if u don't resist much to armageddon u still have more hp on your army stacks and immune dragons to outstand the oponent resistance to armageddon.
6) Believe me there is a lot more to say about the rampart castle i'm just bored to write more now  .

Armagedon is level 5 magic and Gold Dragons are imune up to level 4.
What you said works only with black dragons.
As for which town os the best in using Armagedon - its Conflux, because half of them are imune to fire magic.

Armageddon is a level 4 spell.

This is just bla here...resistance is bad for Rampart..resistance just kills your own Warunicorns and your own Grandelves in the endfight. So dont get resistance with Rampart.

Most people seem to have forgotten ryland is banned 99% of the time. no offence rych, but IMO tower > rampart =) , unless you're playing 200%... but then hardly anyone does, not in multiplayer anyway...
Rampart does have some very good strategies as mentioned above... but it lacks firepower, rampart is better to use than inferno though =) Unless, inferno gets to demon farm extensively, which isn't always possible. (I once saw the AI demon farm.. it was crazy, 200 demons in first month)

rampart is very good at killing neutrals and getting high lvl and good heroes,when it comes to 1v1 final battles it isnt that good after all.Ur powerful elves die in a moment.Dendroids and dwarfs and trying to get pass the half field.The Dragons...it is good that u have build them,if u play on maps like balance.others,unicorns and pegasi will not get u far against a whole army.Oh and centaurs,most of time they are dead because of guarding elves and lvling up.Ofcourse u will be in higher stats and with a lot more resoucrs so thats a plus.In my opinion rampart is for fast games,week2-3 no more.
