A poem I wrote once

On the particularity of reality
By Björn Paulsson

I see reality as the fixation and simplification of the surrounding possibilities. Before something has happened, the possibilities are endless; They fly free like birds in springtime, ever changing into different shapes and modulations. Once time catches up with them they become fixed, tied down, and simplified into one particular real occurrence, through the process of the present.

Once the moment passes, the memories of history are left behind, infinitely unchangeable, more permanent than the hardest rock or stone could ever be. All the beauty of the infinite possibilities of the unfathomable remain out of grasp for the physical body, which can only interact with that which has become fixed in the present, while the mind remains able to explore whatever part of the possibilities it should desire. Thus, reality becomes like a drop in an infinite ocean of possibilities; the mere rarity of it making it so beautiful that it’s almost beyond belief, and at the same time so insignificant in comparison with all that which could have been.

And as my mind floats through the endless ocean of possibilities, suddenly I find you here in the moment of reality, and I see you clearly; not as you are in this limited physical world, but as you are to me in an endless eternity of possibilities. A thousand and one lives with you pass me by as I give my heart of hearts to you in this world and all the possible worlds that could ever be. Everywhere I could ever go, you are my sun and my moon, eternally.

Nice

Here is a poem that I still know by heart from about 17 years ago.  I connot remember the poet - sorry - although I am pretty sure it was anonymous.  It was published in a Dolly magazine.

Once Only
This way I won't
Pass again
For this is now
And that was then

And every step
Of every day
Is past as soon
As it's gone away

So every move
Don't take to fast
For once it's taken
It is past

[edit] I realise this is way shallower than your wonderful post bjorn  I have often thought this way (your post); the day is alive

Bjorn, that is an amazing poem.

It's so true, I often find myself thinking about things like this.

What could have happened, what might happen, regretting or rejoicing in what did happen, most often regret, and the slow, painful acception of the fact that there is nothing you can do to change that 'solid rock' of history you referred to.

The infinite possibilities begs the question of alternate universes, like in the Butterfly Effect of something, but we don't need to go down that windy, philosophical road just now.

Again, a very talented poem. I like poems that make me think, and that I can relate to. Kudos.

The following is taken from the Guild of Literature.

Mountains to the Sea
(written by Guitarguy sometime in early 2002)

Let us take a journey
Together, you and me
To see what lies before us
From the mountains to the sea

We'll trek the highest hills
And wander all the plains
Seeking wonderous treasures
And whatever else remains

We'll climb the tallest trees
And wade the largest streams
Spending our days searching for
The magical realm of our dreams

There's no end to the magic
So let your heart roam free
We'll wander here forever
From the mountains to the sea

---

I wrote this poem in 2002 for my 10th grade Literature class. I didn't start to write songs until late 2003, so I was quite surprised when I unearthed this artifact in Fall 2004. On the long piece of crumpled paper, I have the above poem at the forefront of a painting I had to make for the assignment. I painted rolling green hills with a blue river snaking over each hill, heading for the sea on the far horizon. I still remember doing this assignment; I procrastinated, as usual. The end product turned out surprisingly well (not to brag), because I usually paint horribly bad when I'm under crushing time constraints.
