Heroes 5 Map Thread

I saw a lot of talk about maps in another thread, so decided to make 1 dedicated to Heroes 5 maps. You can post anything map related here.

To start off a discussion I will ask.. what type of maps would you like to see once the Map editor is out?

Before remaking old maps, I decided I will come out with 3 fresh new maps once I get ahold of the map editor. Here are my concepts.. feel free to give your input, ideas, suggestions, etc.

1) A large open map. This will be a fairly big map, but nothing stands in the way of you reaching your opponent. However it will be impossible to reach your opponent in 1 week, but you will want to arm your scouts with more than 1 troop for when you eventually meet someone. I will make mulitple towns on the map and you can expect this to be a somewhat longer game, but Ill tweak it to prevent 10 hour games everytime on it.

2) A medium closed style map, lots to do and most games will end with very large battles. You will get 2 of the same town to build up, and should have no problem maxing out your heroes skills.

3) a 4 player map (will hopefully have a 2v2 version and a FFA version of it) This will be a half open, half closed map. What does that mean? Well it'll be setup to where no one can take your castle without defeating large guards, but there will be an area with scout battles and you will meet the other players.

So those are the 3 concepts Ive been working on. Im guessing the 2nd map will be the most popular, but I want to try and offer a variety of maps. Ill get into some remakes after we get some new maps out there. My only concern is how user friendly the map editor will be..

i think a closed map with lots of ways for easy exp and lots of it early and late in the game would be nice.  like have 4 spinx right near starting town for early gold and lvl 10 heroes to start.   then like 15 of the trees for gaining lvls near starting town. that would make it so you could rather easily get to a lvl 30 hero.  in addition early strategy with the spinx would play big part since you can take gold exp or artifact from them.

I dunno if I would make it that easy for experience haha, but I'd offer lots of ways to level up.. as long as you earned it

People love making super heroes, so that'll definetly be there on some maps.

maybe that many trees would be over doing it a bit hehe but i still think having atleast 3 spinx early to help support with gold or heroe lvls would be neat on a map.  one thing about h5 is it really seems to cost a lot more to get towns built up then previouse versions.  i guess partly cause often you start with no starting builds in towns

Remake for sure,but..

Hey,

- Nice ideas you have there,Jb239 but I think most oldtimers would like to have some of the old maps remaked "asap"

- I have two things I would like to mention here ;

1) Try looking into the " Rise to Power " map, seems ( to me ) one of the best ballanced maps that came with H5, just a thought.

2) If people really would like some power-lvling , what about making some of those fest maps I have heard so much about ?

For sure Ill do some remakes. I figure HG3 will be the first remake.

Battlefest would be fun.. I may make that first to get familiar with the map editor. It was my very first map when I got heroes 3

I just hope the map editor is user friendly, cause I don't want to have to spend a few weeks making 1 map. With Heroes 3 I could make a map in 2 days pretty easily.

Sounds cool...

Hey,

- Ok lets just hope that it IS user friendly, but as FC mentiones in his latest interview they are working on it.

- On the map side, again I have to mention " Rise to Power" map it is very similar to the map I just dl'ed and looked at, called ccremix5 ( I think it's the name ? ) great 2 vrs. 2 map and shouldn't take that long. Also the "Rise to Power" map has just about anything the ccremix5 maps has, Dragon Utopia, key master tent guarded by blacks, stats boosting places, lots of artifacts and mines + some time to build up to so youo dont get "Land of the Outcasted" in week one

baah.. do what your heart and inspiration tells you having in mind a fair and fun play

i guess keeping it simple would be good, game being so young still.

and sure others will come up with maps as well.. which means
_ToH need some good filtering(=council) on which gets official(=posted)
_time will tell which gets more polular, depending on various criteria

haha oh yeah.. I forgot about some of these maps.

I've played a lot of Heroes 5 single player, it will make for some fun multiplayer once the patch and map editor is out.

I figured since I have the beta version of the map editor now I'd bump back up this thread. So far from reading the manual the editor doesn't seem too hard to use, but Ill see how it goes when I start using it.

Im actually pretty impressed with the beta map editor. I've completed about 50% of a big map already.. took about 4 hours. I think Ill have it finished and ready to test all the bugs tomorrow.

Took a little bit to figure out things, but it's similar to the h3 map editor aside from it not being as drag and drop friendly. Once I complete this experiment map ill post it and have people test it out.

I put up 2 screenshots. 1 being from the editor and another is from the game on the map im working on.

Ok so I finished the map.. named it Battle for Honor 2006.

Here is a link to the map if anyone would like to help Beta test it for me. Feel free to post all criticisms, etc.. Im still getting more familiar with the map editor. But once I work the kinks out of this map Ill get into remaking Hourglass since everyone seems to want it.

Battle for Honor 2006 Version 1.2

Just download the file and put it in your Heroes 5 data folder.

*Edit Note* Thanks to fraudatio, I fixed a bug in version 1.1.. so replace it with this new version
