Thank you.

I tried what you suggested and renamed the two .zip files .pak files and put them in my data directory and now H5 crashes and won't open.

So, I must still be doing something wrong... crap!

.pak file?

The file I downloaded for both maps is a .zip file. Which I did extract into my maps file, subsequently they went into a directory named "Multiplayer".

Inside of each of the map name files there is still no .pak file that I can find.

I've been experimenting by moving different files in and out of the data directory, but with still no luck!

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep experimenting until I find something that works.

Ok, I don't get you. Following my link posted on previous page, you will download the file DeadMansLake.pak
Maybe windows associates them automatically with winzip but that doesn't matter. If you set the option in windows to show the extensions of known files, you'll see it's .pak

Anyway, this .pak is just a renamed .h5m file, because that's the best way to make the game "see" the map.

To sum it up:
1)Download file from my link
2)Don't try to unzip it or anything, just put it into your \Data folder
for exapmle: E:\Games\Heroes\Data\DeadMansLake.pak
3)Play

I hope it's clear now

extract all files into your data directory

the maps folder will be in your data folder...
your "folders" should look like this...data/maps/multiplayer/battleforhonor2006
all downloaded map folders will end up directly in your multiplayer folder.
hope that helps

As I said, there's absolutely NO need to extract anything, anywhere. Just place the single downloaded file in Heroes\Data folder.
It works. 100%

Anyone wanted HUGE maps?

Hee hee hee That's a 256 x 256 :-)

And despite the message, the map works in both the game and the editor. It seems like there are virtually no limits on the size of a map, so if anyone wishes to actually make one of these behemots, I might put a clean grass template on the web for you. (Just tell me what dimensions you want :-)

Hey,

- Great map , jb239, I have played it several times ,both SP and MP.

- Only one thing that stands out ( to me ) is the "creature - tavern" - that can be a game breaker... so maybe block that with some monsters too ?

- But I have had some fun hours playing it so far.

Thanks, I decided to leave the creature tavern aka refugee camp unguarded because even though it can be nice to get a high level creature from it.. I don't think it's a gamebreaker at all. I think it adds a little variety because your strategy might change depending what you get in it.

I've made a few more changes to the Battle for Honor 2006 map and will post the 1.3 version soon.

As for Hourglass I have about 75% of the map done, and it's coming along nicely. If I don't get too busy Ill post a beta version of the map by this weekend.

After that Im debating whether to make a new version of Criss Cross or go with a 1v1 Open style map.

Hey,

- I agree that it does add some variety to the map/play-style, but I got 2 paladins ( day 2-3 ) in my latest game... now you go figure the math, mate BUT that aside, I really like the map, and can be taken in one sitting without to much waiting.

- Overall 3.5/5 * - imo

- For us not in the know, I gather your talking about Hourglass from this link? : ToH maps for H3 I recently picked up all the previous games in a 2nd hand comp. store ( and of-course forgot my main purpose - the present for my wife ) - almost had to sleep on the coutch that night  And if it IS that one, I like the map-layout.

- As for making an open 1vrs 1 map at this point ( 1.3 just came out ) I think it would be a "mistake" , atleast untill some of the more experienced players have tested the faction(s) in it's current state e.g. Deleb-warmachines and a bit logisticks...Well this is just me ranting on

- On a side-note, those maps already made and has signatures on it ( from the link I posted before ) does those come with some sort of UN-official xx™  which "forces" me/others to contact them before remaking their maps to .H5M ?

Ok point made.. Ill consider guarding the refugee camps before I post the hopefully final version later today

Yes Im referring to the hourglass from that page.. I was co creator of the original and had many requests to remake it. As for the other maps on that page.. I made quite a few of them and I don't really see anything wrong with remaking them if you want, besides I still see some on there that are mine with "author unknown" So it's really difficult to know who created them.

I might take your advice about holding off on the open map.. however I could get creative and remove certain heroes from the map. But Ill try to focus more on maps people will really want to play.

Hey,

- "...however I could get creative and remove certain heroes from the map. ..."   That could be a solution too. EDIT if you are thinking about a map where one can run straight to the other ( like Land of the Outcast sorta map ) you might want to consider a FFA tavern in the middle where ALL heroes can be recruited ?. That would be a "carrot for most" ( and make some fun scout-mini duel fights). BUT again this would proberly cause some problems over-all. I am thinking about 2 of the same heroes on the map.. if you understand what I mean.

- Btw, I just dl'ed the patch myself  and as far as I can see, you can select which ( reguarding to #'s )creatures you can recruit in the Refugee Camp ( i.e. up to ,say lvl 3 as highest ). I am not sure about this though.

Some of the best map designs are experiments with different things, so I might make an open map where both sides can reach each other, but throw in some twists or experiment.

If you can edit the refugee camp then Ill just do that.. I actually need to play around with the updated editor since Im used to the beta still

Nice! The best looking map I've seen yet. The attention to detail is superb
I particularly like the look of Mage's Vault on the hill among the rocks.
Nicely done

EDIT
I may have hurried with my compliments
The map is unfinishable. There's a tree near the war machines store, that's completly blocking the path.
My guess is, that player needs to go that way, because I see no other way.

Okay - I've finally gotten some work done.

I've made 5 maps and one of them is somewhat ready for others to see if it's playable and what changes might need to be made.

There are always two versions of my maps because I personally HATE building towns. So, with that in mind, I have a version where the towns are completely built (including all spells and some bonus starting armies) as well as a version where nothing is built (for me this takes too long since you have to level up and get a big enough army before you can beat the garrison and move on, but hey some people love that stuff).

So, with all that said here are the two versions - all feedback is welcome (though I may not change anything).
