I run Vista, and had the same problem some others have mentioned - cannot write to the files and save them as changed.  I could not turn off the Read-Only.  The fix that worked for me was to make a copy of the file on my desktop, make changes in that file, and then transfer the file to the original folder (replacing the original copy of the file)

I am running ToE.  I have followed Curio's instructions to the letter, modifying the file in the game folder and the file in my documents folder.  However I am unable to get the console to come up.  Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?  I open the game, load a saved game, and then press the tilda key (both with and without the shift button)  Nothing happens.

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

@Kyderoy: the console works in 1.6, just follow the exact guidelines. Give more details about what you did and what doesn't work if you need more help.

@Skaaper: in your first line, the hero name is incorrect (it should be "Arantir"). In your second line, the command is incorrect (it should be "AddHeroCreatures").

@gcraighammond: the key to press in game is not necessarily the "tilda key", depending on your keyboard. As explained in the guide, it is the top left key: below escape, left to "1", above "Tab".

Thank-you Sfidanza for your response.

The buton you describe is the one I am pressing.

One thought occurs to me.  When assigning the hot key, you enter   bind show_console '`'  in the Common Section.  Does it matter where in the Common Section you place this command?

No, it shouldn't.
You can try with F12 (for instance) to avoid a mismatch between the key name and its actual text on the keyboard. Other than that, it really should work.

Thank-you again Sfdanza for taking the time to reply.

Even with multiple reentries of the command (both copy and pasting as well as typing), I have not been able to get the tilda key to work.
But taking your suggestion and replacing "`" with "F12" it now works fine with the F12 key.

I just want to say that it is 'Heroes" like you, who spend so much time working out problems and helping us noobs, that really make these forums both useful and pleasant to visit.  And by extension, make the game so much more enjoyable to play.  Again, my thanks!

I guess you are trying it in multiplayer

cheats work only in single player mode.

You have got to do this,before you can use cheats:                This procedure involves editing a game file;
create a backup copy of the file before proceeding.
Use a text editor to edit the "autoexec_a1.cfg" file in the
"\heroes of might and magic v\profiles\" directory. Add the following
line to the end of the file:
setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes

There's one thing i never found out how to do in H5...

What do you have to type to get full movement points?

@kevimetal: no there's no remove skill as @commands. That would indeed have been helpful.

@madshj: you should use the @ChangeHeroStat command:
@ChangeHeroStat("YourHero", STAT_MOVE_POINTS, 9999)
or equivalently
@ChangeHeroStat("YourHero", 7, 9999)
Note that you can only replenish your max move points, not go higher. By default, this is 2500 (using a bigger value will just clip it to the max).
More info there:
http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/heroes5_cheats_misc.shtml

@HugoSmooth: profile_a2.cfg is located in your user profile, which is almost where you said, but inside your user subfolder. Maybe it's what you actually did.
Other than that, it might be that you're not trying with the correct key in game. To keep it simple, try with 'F12' instead of '`'.

@Jillemixie: the syntax is @Win(), no text inside.

Thanks for the answer, both commands work
Though... the weird thing is: i am in the orc campaign in ToE...
It says there is no hero named: "Gotai"
How can i do so it can be used? I also tried the undead campaign with Ornella. didnt work either...

Any solutions?

cheat- why do to that then the game has no sense, why to achive something, while you can cheat, that is easy way out and i donīt respect that, well cheaters arenīt welcome in multiplayer, and that cheating guide brings them, its almost like the pro athlete fails in drug test-cheater, and those game cheaters are no different

I found it on the net but I can't remember where: (works for TOtE too).

Activating console panel for Heroes 5: Hammers of Fate
For some reason that escapes me, Nival created an entirely new profile directory and files that contain exactly the same friggin data as the original version, but with different names.

I guess it was too much to ask that they assume we would want the same setup for the expansion as for the original.

so here's what you have to do (if it's not already working for you)...

in addition to modifying the input_a1.cfg file in your new profile directory, which should look something like this:

C:/Documents and Settings/Evgeniy/My Documents/My Games/Heroes of Might and Magic V/Hammers of Fate/Profiles/Evgeniy

you need to go to the directory for the game itself, and the profile directory THERE:

C:/Games/Heroes of Might and Magic V/profiles

and find the file:

autoexec_a1.cfg

add the same line you normally would add to the autoexec.cfg for the normal version:

setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes

at the very bottom.

copy that file to your personal profile directory for Hammers of Fate (the documents and settings one).

done.

that works fine for me.

NOTE:

you can get the console to pop down simply by adding the binding keys to the input_a1.cfg file, but the cheat codes themselves will not work unless you add the autoexec_a1.cfg file to your Hammers of Fate profiles directory.

for those that have forgotten what to do with your input.cfg file (in this case input_a1.cfg):

go to the line starting:

// obsolete, but strictly need for compability with some interfaces

and add the line:

bind show_console '`'

to the end of that section.

so it should look like this:

// obsolete, but strictly need for compability with some interfaces
bind close_window 'ESC'
bind confirm_action 'ENTER'
bind confirm_action 'NUM_ENTER'
bind show_console '`'

or, if you have the additional section with the debug keys listed, it would look like this:

// obsolete, but strictly need for compability with some interfaces
bind close_window 'ESC'
bind confirm_action 'ENTER'
bind confirm_action 'NUM_ENTER'

//debug keys
bind show_console '`'

According to the Cheat Guide the internal name for the hero Tieru is Linaas.  I have tried to use this and it doesn't work but it doesn't give an error either.  So is the above internal name correct?

Hey Curio... something is not right here in @Give...

for example, in the tutorial, why is it written
@GiveArtefact("Calid", 28);
OR @GiveArtifact("Calid", 28); ...gives the Inferno hero Grawl a Bag of Endless Gold, equipped if there is space, or in the inventory if there is not.

why is it you give Grawl the bag, while writing Calid where Name should be?

i tried

@GiveArtefact("Isabel", 2) it doesnt work... why?

The game uses different internal script names. Check Scripting 2.0 guide by Robert De Ford for the list of all of them.
