Is Heroes 4 a disastrous game?

I read abt this thread 'the most favourite games of Heroes'. Everyone like heroes 3, no one mention abt heroes 4. Well, i dun like the upgraded creature featuring in heroes 3 n 5. I oso like the vampire in heroes 4. Heroes 3 vampire is NOT a vampire at all!!! Heroes 5 vampire  looks like a chinese/japanese wit his hairstyle... So, do u all think tat heroes 4 is a failure of the HOMM series?

Definitely not. Heroes 4 introduced the heroes into the combat. That meant options of creating a melee heroe or a magic wielding heroe or one thats a ranged shooter.

Other creatures were introduced like Nightmares (and yeah the Vamopires are the best in Heroes 4)

It brought us moving enemies and specialised the skill system. It was by no means a failure. It just lacked some of the best qualities of Heroes 3

I never even played Heroes 2, I started on Heroes 3. But I read on the game overviews that Heroes 4 was when the heroes could move about in combat.

In Heroes 3 they cast spells and used artifacts. Oh and they could run away if they wanted

This was one of the things which were disturbing in Heroes4. The hero shouldn´t act directly on the battlefield (and prolly even die, while units survive...:S).
In Heroes 3, the hero just stands besides the battlefield and can cast spells. In Heroes 5, the hero stands outside the field, casts spells or can attack with melee or ranged attack.

I see so in Heroes 5 they can attack other units but not be killed themselves?

Dont understand people who that HoMM4 is disaster. Sure, HoMM 2 and 3 are geat too(played since i was 12), but H4 has many interesting improvements. At last was invulnerability of heroes broken (personaly was annoyed to see like my heroe is standing on one place of battlefield like a dork all the time!). Another cool thing - medusas stone gaze works also ranged. Yeah!

Actually.. I enjoy h4. However, the bad balance makes it annoying at times. Devils vs. your mage hero? yeah, R.I.P. dear hero before you even get a chance to use the immortality thingy, and it really doesn't matter how powerful your spells are when you are DEAD -_-

It's good that equilibris fixed some things (especially necromancy) but it's still far from balanced. Heroes die too fast and they never have the ability to use all of those cool spells and abilities bcuz reaching grandmaster takes f*cking ages - even if you desire to grandmaster only one skill tree -_- Some ideas, like the creature portal in nature town are completely retarded - more imbalance plz. Overall, good game, but many ideas poorly executed ;x

What I hate most with Heroes IV is the ugly graphics, the bad music (H3 had better music), the scripting system in the map editor and the lack of towns.

Think that depends on what skills ur aiming 4.Grandmastering in magical orders take time, but ive managed 2get my heroe grandmaster archery.Either way ur right tho, what good is any skill if ur dead!Inbalance is def a problem in Heroes 4,which is a shame cos without these inconsistencys it would be arguably the best

Dont care of that (chaos town is enough for me). Thank god that there isnt conflux in H4 ( castle). And besides, there are plenty of neutral creatures to battle.

I want the conflux back. Elemental-towns are a fine addition to the HOMM series.

Well, i dont think so. On h4 was conflux castle total disaster. All troops had tiny HP. Lvl 1 - 3HP, cool we have a new record!
Only good thing is that they could be summoned on h4.

I definitely agree about the lack of towns. I feel the graphics of Heroes 4 is a matter of taste though. I felt they were a bit more colorful and vibrant compared to Heroes 3, I've heard some say though it's too 'cartoony'.

The maps could of felt larger in Heroes 4 though

That's why you drink it before combat. And heroes can be revived. Ever tried devine intervention?

No it doesn't. You can get to GM magic on level 11-12 normally and it DOESN'T take ages to get there with your 3-5 heroes, trust me.
And they don't die too fast. Maybe YOUR heroes do. Mine don't.

Creature portal unbalanced? Why? Okay, you get Mantises, but not that much. It's quite okay.

Anyhow.

Heroes 4 is by FAR the most strategicg and best game of the sequel. And that's a fact, not an opinion.

If u think the red colored part is a FACT, then we should talk about the meanings of "fact" and "opinion" again.
I still have to find ANY computer magazine, where Heroes 4 gets a higher ranking than Heroes 3.
I still have to find ANY ranking refering to "sold copies", where H4 is placed higher than H3.
But perhaps u have other (more) informations than i do, so could u tell me on which facts your (red colored) statement is based?

Hehe.
I lost interest in H4 faster than most games I'd been looking forward to. I still play H3.

I don't think disastrous is the right word.  Sure, it's different from H3, but I wouldn't equate different with 'disastrous' - that's a matter of opinion.

I do like H4 in some ways, for some of the changes introduced.  I feel some of them were good changes, and made gameply more interesting than H3.  And there are some changes that didn't go over so well; I'll admit there are some I didn't like.

It's simply progress.  Obviously, progress doesn't always go over well.  But there it is.
