And I thought it jumped the shark................... oh well
For those of you in Australia, you would have probably heard of this, but I'd like to discuss.
Every reality TV show whose idea we import has a tendency to jump the shark in this country. Remember that Aussie version of Survivor? Geez, that sucked worse than the original US versions. And the less said about those singing shows the better. But 2001 saw the Australian version of a certain reality show from the Netherlands that I think has jumped the shark.
As it turns out, there has been a lot of political backlash against Big Brother's sixth season. And who can blame them?
BB2006 for me had jumped the shark early on when a certain insider named Michael went off his nut before getting eliminated and evicted. As it turns out there were another 2 people named Michael. These two guys were recently kicked out for sexual assault and the victim, Camilla, has refused to let them get questioned by the fuzz. This is where political groups have stepped in.
Last year, the uncut version was replaced with an adults only version due to breaches of conduct, many of which you may be well aware of. A certain Trish Draper had pulled it off the air completely. This is where it gets more brutal. Two drunken housemates last Saturday morning were responsible for a serious sexual incident and were booted out. Unfortunately it was shown on the web streaming. Even the discussion boards had been closed. A good thing it didn't get shown; similar things happen on porn sites were degrading acts are frequently performed.
And now, the leaders of the two leading political parties have called for BB to be axed. This kind of assault is serious, no matter how it is portrayed. The jury is still out and BB will go out, without a doubt, on a low note.

I haven't watched this year but have heard things in the media. It is pretty much the same thing each year though...

I think some of the censorship may vary slightly between states... not sure.
Anyway, I did watch a debate with gretal {how do you spell her name - the compare} and the censorship people, and some other guests about whether the uncut should be banned, and I had to agree with the non-banning argument.
Although this house is not a 'real' situation, the themes and experiences are things that happen to real people everyday. The benefit of these being aired and viewed by particularly young adults/adolescents is that it brings these issues into their everyday conversations. The very fact that you started this thread is testimony to that.
Sexuality and relationships are VERY important issues to teens and through discussing these issues they can explore where they believe the boundaries are, also learning what others think is acceptable/unacceptable behaviour. {clearly sexual assalt is NEVER OK}. It also allows people to discuss ways of dealing with these situations when/if they do arise. It may even help parents and their children communicate about these issues.
I am starting to blah, I think you get my point. Communication and education about these issues can be a positive outcome that may never be possible without a show like this. It also allows adolescents to see that their behaviours are not necessary "the work of the devil".
What do you think about it?
Re: Jumping the Shark I think that is pretty much standard now for all Reality TV as they try to outdo the last one. Has BB gone too far? Have you watched Home and Away lately lol

Yep, soapies and even cop shows have brought more controversial themes into primetime. I remember neighbours having drink spikings and homosexuality and incest, and it was shown at 6:30 PM. The same thing has been happening in the USA for the past decade. Controversial issues are now to easy to show on prime time TV.

Do you think these should all be censored? Could you please explain why you think showing these on TV is a negative thing? I am interested in hearing your opinion btw, not attacking you 
My opinion has already been stated - I don't have a big problem with this.

Kook, my opinion, like I have said previously on my thoughts of BB, is still undecided. It's a very confusing matter that needs clearing up so that the full story can be heard. I'm not calling for it to be banned, as TV allows anything these days. It's left to the public, seeming how I cannot make up their minds.
