Thing to prevent swearing in posts
I have thought of something.
Perhaps if when your making a post, you say the F word.
Well what about if you press submit and then the system checks the post for any swear words, if it finds some it will not enable you to make that post until you take out all of the swearing if there is any in it.
Just like the word censors you could add words which the thing could check.
I think this would be a way to prevent swearing, I know thats what word censors do, but if you quote the perons post then you will see all of the swearing in it.
I just thought of this just then and thought it might benefit the community, but I will need to hear some feedback on this

I have seen many of the respected members swear their heads off here, and I know by doing that you act like a kid, but it degrades this community marginly, not by much.
I think this would be a good feature, kind of like a spell checker, but it checks for words that valeriy wants to check for perhaps.

 What do we need the automatic censorship for ?
I'm serious here. Everybody knows how I feel about censorship and political correctness, but I'm not suggesting to remove the RULES. But I do wonder what purpose is the automatic censorship feature supposed to serve ? Conan once gave Russ a penalty for saying the s*** word in a post even thought the automatic censorship feature worked fine and changed that word into HCily correct ****. It was clearly stressed by the mod teams on several occasions (notably when I questionned Pan and Val about it some time ago) that such a penalty made perfect sense according to the CoC. Russ SHOULD have typed " **** " himself, instead of relying on the automatic censorship feature. So what is this feature worth, exactly ?
Think about it for a second... It prevents you from swearing, but you still get punished for the swearing it supposedly censored. I think it does more bad than good, then. Might even be seen as a Penalty Trap.
PS : Lich closed the 24 hours thread before I noticed it, but for sure there's someone claiming loud and proud that this 20 posts limit is in total contradiction with the very existence of the Volcanic Wastelands ! ME ! That said, nothing makes less sense in this regard than William's suggestion. Too bad mine weren't considered either... Bah. As usual.

As less sense as 16 posts  .
Now swearing are slang bad words.
Parents dont want to see thier kids saying them.
Seeing it posted on here will only have kids want to say them more.
Bad influence & it will get worst on here if we were aloud to say them.
All of a sudden we are going to be seeing *#^&% 4 times a reply by 15 yr olds.
Tell me Legend, do you really feel comfortable hearing little kids swearing in every post if it was aloud or even if you had your own kids.
I would hope not.
Theres reasons for not swearing on here.
Fighting words for one, you come up saying the F word to someone anywhere, there will be fighting.
People dont realise that swearing at the wrong occasions can get you into more trouble then they even know.
More examples then just fighting.

Well the 1 reason why this idea may not work, emphasis on the "may" is that if someone becomes aware there is swearing in thier post they will go to change it to go around filters then the word will be completely readable rather than stared out eg: using 5 inplace of S and not spelling the words correctly. On the other hand if it just gets stared out and the poster is not aware it has been censored untill it has been posted and would then have to go edit it which is more strenuating. As well there is a chance they dont read thier own posts and a mod can access it post haste and remove it!
I think a good suggestion would be to rather than replace swear words with "****" they should be replaced with "Im a big stupid idiot, please delete my post and take away a qp" in capital bold red letters

You both failed to understand a word of what I said, it seems. Did you even read my post ?  
I never suggested to stop censorship. I pointed out the sheer uselessness of the AUTOMATIC censorship feature.
If you actually type the word s then h then i then t, it will AUTOMATICALLY turn into **** when you submit your post. Yet, the swear word is still there, and whoever quote replies your post will be able to read it. AND you'll still get penalized if a mod notices it.
So the true responsibility is solely on the poster's shoulders. And the AUTOMATIC censorship FEATURE blurs the lines and make it even more tricky not to swear (even by accident).
Remember what happened to Russ ? He said "Oh, s*** " without being cautious enough just this once. It did AUTOMATICALLY turn into " **** " when he submitted his post. So looking back on it, there was NO WAY for him to even NOTICE he didn't type the dumb " **** " himself ! Yet, Conan noticed it with his mod tools / expertise, and had to give the penalty.
That's senseless, imho. Without the AUTOMATIC censorship feature, Russ might have noticed he FORGOT to replace his NATURAL "oh S..." with HCily correct " **** ".
That's all I said. Please feel free to spare me the cliché speech about kids being traumatized by reading swear words. I'm sure my opinion is there in some other thread for you to read.

No one is stupid in here.
We all know what we are saying so who needs a filter.
I mean come on when I say who gives a BEEP.
What bad word did i just use?
COme on now we all know what bad word is used & we all know why it's used.
Face it we all swear & we all know the words, but do we really need to see them?
We might as well just swear & everyone can see it because if we use a filter, it is basically the same thang because we all know what word is said.
The way people swear when they talk constantly can show you what kind of person they are I hear.

Dude, it's really hard NOT to "get into it" when you make posts like that. Specially when they cross with mine.
Why would we have to READ these swear words ? Can't you see members would in fact swear much LESS if you remove the automatic censorship thingie ?! I'd parallel it with Angelito's suggestion to remove the "Delete" button. When you know you don't have a net, you're more cautious.

Well i said if someone actually types a swear word it gets blocked out by that filter saying "i am stupid etc ", but typing in **** to represent swearing makes sense, Im sorry if my message came across wrong. I dont have anything against swearing acutally, i swear all they time but whatever floats your boat.

Sure & I did read your post.
Keeping it to a minimum if possible & Mods shouldnt need to use any features to stop swearing but it has to be done.
It's rules tho to not swear & I think it worked good in these yrs & I seen alot worst then in the last 2 yrs.

Yes, as far as I know. At least that's what I could gather from reading the thread it happened in, hearing Russ about it then hearing Pan about it (never talked to Conan though), and all three sources indicated it's how it happened.
Hence my question : if you're going to get penalized anyway, what's the point of automatically changing ur swear words into " **** " ? All it can do is mislead you into getting a penalty while you absolutely didn't mean to swear. Imho, at least.
