The original Mod Squad!
The info on the original Mod Squad:

The premise was that they had brushes with the law and were currently on probation. They were recruited to fight adult crime using their youth and "hippie" look as cover.
They were never straight cops. They questioned everything they did and worried about the morality of arrests. Oh, and they never tried to trap other young people. Sympatico, you see. The Mod Squad arrested people who preyed on young people. That means you, Tina. 
I remember this show so clearly because I wanted to be as cool as Pandora. Fat chance, but a girl can dream.

Dude, you're so infatuated with american comic books history, it's a sight to see !  
On the foreground is Golden Age's Val Hallah, mentor and leader of the team back then.
Above him is Silver Age's MightyMage Lad, with his J5 secert weaponry.
The chick is Silver Age's Pandora, still called "Pandora Lass" back then.
Last but not least, the dude on the right is the original RedSoxFan from the forties. In the second issue of the series, the team was sent on a mission to the north pole, where they found his frozen body by accident....
The rest is history !

But DUDE ! It was precisely my point : even when you talk about a TV series, you make it sound like it's a comic book series you're really talking about !

Todd had to work it into the show which only lasted about a season and a half due to poor ratings.
