Give Alastor Dark magic?

I feel inferno should have a hero somewhat specialized in dark magic since its one of their magic schools and most factions have heroes that specializes in one or the other of their magic schools. Haven beeing the only one that doesnt have this but they are a might faction so fair enough Id say. Inferno do have someone specializing in dark magic - alastor however there is a problem here he doesnt start with the skill "dark magic". Wich means that you might run around with a hero that can at the end off the game beeing able to drain the mana from one creature, wasting 70% initiative and that beeing his speciality. I think there are better things to do in that situation like using a destructive magic AoE that debuffs the enemy. Making alastors, your main heroes, special ability getting unused.
All other heroes in the game that specializes in a spell starts with that spells school of magic aswell. Also all factions have 2 heroes that each one starts with one off the factions magic schools except inferno and haven.
In addition Inferno allready have a hero that starts with sorcerry and it would be better for the game IMO with more choices not having two heroes starting with the same skills. So who shouldnt have sorccery? Now the other hero is jezbeth specializing in succubi. Sorcerry gives you magic insight (wich she starts with). And magic insight can give you phantom forces with no summoning magic its still enough to clone a lv 4 creature and what are the succubi? So no reason for jezebeth to loose sorccery. The hero that should not have it out off the two off them is Alastor as I see it. Give alastor dark magic for some more variety in choices and to make sure he gets to use his special ability at its best - mana draining mass confusion.

Also alastors bio says that "alastor showed his skill at mind control at a tender age..." So maybe make him start with dark magic and master of mind? (even though the bio alsmost seem to indicate some sort off puppet master spell)

You gotta agree that it is atleast very suitable for Alastor to start with dark magic and master of mind Wink

So do you think it would be a good idea giving him dark magic to start with instead off sorccery? Or would that be to powerfull to be guaranteed a mana draining mass confusion?

You want to release the hero campaign Guarg (Inferno) ?

I don't play so much with Inferno. I think you're right, but it will be imba (and Inferno heroes are already good enough). Maybe with only Dark Magic, but in that case he can have mass confusion at level 2 and will soon have : "90% of the target stack will forget to act" (retaliation and shooting), and by the way mana draining casters. I don't know any hero who can have mass cleansing so early to counter this. Mabye Ylthin, and with luck because the spell may not be in the mage guild.

About sorcery, the idea behind this may be to give this hero some casting boost and mana regeneration to cast confusion without holding the player into one magic school.

I'll be a little off-topic now. Zehir is the only Academy Hero with Summoning and there is no Light Magic Hero in the Academy. Same thing about Dungeon, their mage guild is about Summoning and Dark but nobody is expert in Summoning. I really think the spell afinity of each faction is a big mess. Some heroes become totally useless because of that. There should be more heroes or rebuild which has been released. However it seems easy to criticize but I have no clue about the balance reasons behind all this mess.

Return to topic. The strongest groups of creeps are creatures who shoot/cast or have unlimited retaliation. This already gives Alastor some easy-mode in creeping I think (never tested), but according to you he is already good at it . I will because too powerfull.

Hm yes for creeping it would be all to powerfull to have that early in the game.

Its just that in end game battles you have an advantage with Alastor compared to Deleb because of this excellent speciality. Its not that funny if you never get it though. Then Deleb would have been much better for you to start with. I mean you still get it very often but those few times that you dont it might settle the game right there thats what I think is a bit irritaiting with it. Im pretty much aware off that other factions probably have similar problems. But I think alastor is the only one that have a chance or risk to end upp getting his speciality unused.

Well, alastor's speciality ain't that cool in earlygame. Ok, mana drain is fun, but for some strange reason, those gay elder druids ALWAYS get their turn before him and score wicked damage, reducing his effectiveness a lot. ~~
Plus, maybe it's just me, but getting dark magic for alastor isn't THAT easy as getting i.e. logistics. ;x

I never played them, just to see if the numbers are that bad.

I've also been thinking of this, since I often pick him as main. In my opinion he should have advanced dark magic instead of his current skills. He should not start off with the mastery ability, as mass confusion would be a killer early on.

If you are facing elder druids and have 3-5 SP and mass confusion you can usually take them out with just some hell hounds. Split them upp, 1 in each stack. Chances are one druid will act before you but very rarely two off them. Use mass confusion then finish off with damaging spells.

Yes but at lv 20 it might be to late. You want to have it at lv 15 the latest.. Also logistics + luck + destructive magic + attack seem to have bigger chances off appearing atleast when Im playing


And I agree with God 2. maybe let him start with another mass spell though. So it would take him atleast 2 lvs to get mass confusion.

Inferno Heroes have a fairly good chance in getting Dark Magic, atleast from my gaming experience. And if Alastor started with Dark Magic, I fear he will become too powerful. Confusion is a devastating spell on any stack. No retaliation( a spell doing only that would be good in its own). Shooters useless. And with Alastor, the spell casters useless. Oh, and it can be cast on MASS EFFECT

Just tested some infenro heroes out. The chance of getting dark magic each lv is about 10%.

And when I tested it I got darkmagic before lv 12 88% off the times. With alastor 80% off the times.

Getting some key skills for inferno might increase this chance even more.
