I think the perfect solution would be to give a map-maker possibility to set the duration of sim turns.
For example: let the sim turns run for 3 weeks on Dragon Pass, and perhaps 1 week on Last Hope.
Then it's back to normal turns.

It could really speed things up on most of maps, because the begining consumes a lot of time usually.

Customizable simultaneous turns, that's a nice idea! After all it's in the beginning that things play out a bit slowly.Except for small and or crowded maps of course.Just imagine sim turns in 8 player small map without underground and...islands!A guarantee for some funny situations

In my opinion, the only way you could implement simultaneus turns without ruining the turn-based system which makes HOMM into the game we love so much, would be to be given a message that the following turn could cause a "conflict" when heroes are close enough to each other so that they could do conflicting moves.

If a turn could cause a conflict, one should then be given the option to
A) Have the normal turn-based system in that turn
B) Have a system where heroes can only buy units or other heroes which aren't in conflict can move, and also where the player with the first turn can move like normally (After all, it's logical that a player should be able to buy units on a monday when another player is infront of a castle and is about to attack since they both have a turn on the same day.
C) Still have totally simultaneus turns.

If they created a good system for this it could save us time, but still preserve the turn-based system which I believe we all love about the game.

I think simultaneus turns would screw up the game... maybe except first week, yes, but later on... nah, I'd get rutger and run circles around enemy heroes. Just imagine how annoying that would be xD
