The fall of the roman empire

Hello greetings

I need to get a report finished about why the Roman empire fell.
IŽd be very glad if someone could write  down in detail why it happened: causes, the actual fall of the empire and what happened afterwards.

Cheers

Was not thinking on that one.
You need to study boy.
Memorizing is easy in math but in history you need to read books about your ancestors.
History is fun & so is this subject.
You should pick up a book & read about it.
You might enjoy it.

why it happened: causes
Christianity and yes, the mother of all - stupidity. The last Roman emperors and their commanders made some REALLY bad decisions.

the actual fall of the empire
Rome got sacked a few times, but for some reason Rome kept on having the emperors who didn't really have any power any more until one of barbarian leaders finally ended this practise.

One interesting thing about the fall of the Roman empire is that even as many as 100 years after it fell, some people still didn't know about it and were going about their day to day lives as if the empire was still around!!!

and what happened afterwards
The barbarians started their own kingdoms. Eventually the barbarians have colonized the North America and built their own empire there. Nowdays their descendants want to get someone else to do their homework for them instead of studying such an interesting subject when they have all the means available to them (like Goooooooogle).

Exactly, and then the barbarians decided to explore even further, including amongst other places...the moon

and then they got creative and invented things like the internet.

I will help you with your homework friend.
I decided to go against my nature.
Most of these replies are just to lead you to wrong answers.
Most hit the spot but only surfaces. They didnt tell you why.
Let me tell you why Ancient Rome fell.

The last known emperor Domitian Was running out of money in the treasury after he built his great swimming pool in his 40 room mansion.
He could not pay the mortgage.
His people were unhappy.
Domitian was a nice emperor but he had no money management.
DOmitian also had a hard tome paying the Collisuem bill after the Celts Ramsacked all of the nothern cities in Rome.
That was when the Scottish began to steal the Roman women, Burn the city & also Disturb the peace by being too loud in the southrn Roman cities.

The last straw was when Domitian could not make his last mortgage bill & evacuated all the tennants in all of ROme.
Even on the East side.
So to speak Domitian had to leave ancient Rome because he could not pay the bills.

I hope this helps & remember where we got the west & the east side stories

There are some adherents to single factors, but more people think Rome fell because of a combination of such factors as Christianity, decadence, lead, monetary, and military problems. Even the rise of Islam is proposed by some who think the Fall of Rome happened at Constantinople.

Since not all viewpoints are available on the Internet, this list of theories about the Fall of Rome is limited:
Decay
Financial Problems
The Dole and Barbarians
Economic, Military, Gradual
Christianity
Vandals and Religious Controversy
Division of the Empire
Lead
Hoarding and Deficit

..sorry but this cant be a serious answer to a historic homework. Barbarians? You played too much heroes. Vandals? This historic term did really exist, but they had nothing to do with the downfall. Religious Controversy? The two religions were one of the results of the downfall, NOT the reason. Financial Problems? Oh geez no nation was as rich as the Roman Empire at that time! Please reread some historic books about the time between 350 and 450 and get some facts.

Actually, the roman economy suffered from inflation beginning after the reign of Marcus Aurelius. Once the Romans stopped conquering new lands, the flow of gold into the Roman economy decreased. Yet much gold was being spent by the romans to pay for luxury items. This meant that there was less gold to use in coins. As the amount of gold used in coins decreased, the coins became less valuable. To make up for this loss in value, merchants raised the prices on the goods they sold. Many people stopped using coins and began to barter to get what they needed. Eventually, salaries had to be paid in food and clothing, and taxes were collected in fruits and vegetables.

Also, maintaining an army to defend the border of the Empire from barbarian attacks was a constant drain on the government. Military spending left few resources for other vital activities, such as providing public housing and maintaining quality roads and aqueducts. Frustrated Romans lost their desire to defend the Empire. The empire had to begin hiring soldiers recruited from the unemployed city mobs or worse from foreign counties. Such an army was not only unreliable, but very expensive. The emperors were forced to raise taxes frequently which in turn led again to increased inflation.

The term "barbarian" is used in reference to rogue militiant countries of the time, such as the Germanic hunters which eventually began to overtake Roman lands in Greece and Gaul, and thus needed to be stomped back.

As for the religious controversy, I was more referring to the sudden decline in morals and basic values. The morals and values that kept together the Roman legions and thus the empire could not be maintained towards the end of the empire. Crimes of violence made the streets of the larger cities unsafe. Even during PaxRomana there were 32,000 prostitutes in Rome. Emperors like Nero and Caligula became infamous for wasting money on lavish parties where guests ate and drank until they became ill. The most popular amusement was watching the gladiatorial combats in the Colosseum. These were attended by the poor, the rich, and frequently the emperor himself. As gladiators fought, vicious cries and curses were heard from the audience. One contest after another was staged in the course of a single day. Should the ground become too soaked with blood, it was covered over with a fresh layer of sand and the performance went on. Now, THAT isn't so conducive to leading a civil and polite society.

Maybe you need to brush up a bit, sir.

EDIT: Also, I don't remember if I mentioned this before, but there was no real means of becoming emperor. Basically, whoever was the most "powerful" got to be emperor, so if "Bob" killed the previous one, then he received the honor of becoming an emperor. That's why so many of them were murdered!

Vandals a name of German hunters Xarstunk lol.
Money was running out & it was declining fast.
They had a hard time paying for all the soldiers & only the rich survived basically.
Look how many emperors we had within 100 yrs, like 25 & almost all of them were murdered. These EMperors just could not do the job.
Anyone could of attacked the Roman empire & they did.

So many civil disputes & Rome gotten so big that they had to have a western & an eastern part of Rome.
Rome was so big that other countries wanted to expand.
Also because Rome was so hugh that it was hard to protect every area in Rome so deals had to be made.
Why did Constatine move the capital of Rome to a new city of COnstantinople way to the east?Yes I know why but it still was not smart.

Basically Rome got too big.

Rome was running out of money fast from greedy Emperors & Rich Romans while high taxes were being payed.

Civil disputes

Idiot emperors who could not do thier job.

Rome had good defense but was thinly spread.

Rome was big enough that other countries needed to expand.

Basically Romans screwed Rome .

Edit: Had to fix a few spelling
I dont think I should leave maney when i meant money
Maybe you need to go back & read some of those history books Xarfaxisgreatintheclosetthatopenedwide&proud

You have to admit though, the Roman empire was so successfull they came out with a sequel: The Byzantine Empire.  If there's anybody who hasn't seen it I definitely recommend it.

Altough it is considered a bit obsolete this days, you should try Edward Gibon's "The decline and fall of the roman empire". It's not the most complete or correct view of the subject, but it still is one of the best  books about it.

I could tell you a bit more on the topic, but it's not really a bit, since you have to take into consideration al the different factors and events, and there's a lot of them. But try starting with the book.
